Neverforget that something like 90% of U.S. conservatives supported Bush's invasion and occupation of Iraq back in the early 2000s.

Hard to believe now but a majority of Americans and a super majority of conservatives were strongly in favor of the same war that triggered U.S. decline for the next two decades, led to the rise of ISIS, etc.
It took over a decade but now it's hard to find anyone who will openly admit they thought the Iraq War was a good idea. Even Trump, who supported it at the time, defines himself as being against it.
All of which is to say...there's no guarantee Republicans will support Trump forever either. If you're a conservative, time to get ahead of the curve and realize this was a bad idea, because it's only going to get worse from here...

President Trump defended his “good call” with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky – and to prove his point, he suggested he might read it aloud in a “fireside chat” reminiscent of FDR’s radio broadcasts in the 1930s and ’40s.
“This is over a phone call that is a good call,” the president told the Washington Examiner in an Oval Office interview hours after a bitterly divided House voted to approve a resolution outlining the impeachment inquiry against him.
“At some point, I’m going to sit down, perhaps as a fireside chat on live television, and I will read the transcript of the call, because people have to hear it. When you read it, it’s a straight call,” Trump added.

Watching a clip of Steve Bannon talking to Anderson Cooper, and Bannon says "President Trump doesn't think he did anything wrong..."
And that's the problem, succinct and captured in one simple sentence: Trump doesn't think anything he does is wrong. He doesn't think anything he's ever done in his life is wrong. And quite frankly, he doesn't think about anything all that well in the first place.
