Trump is threatening to veto a major defense bill unless Congress repeals Section 230 AKA the "safe harbor" provision of the Communications Act governing the internet.

This is very dangerous and unfortunately a lot of people have now gotten the wrong idea about what Section 230 is. They think repealing it will safeguard free speech and prevent Twitter from censoring conservatives or something. When in reality it's what allows user-generated sites to exist in the first place. I'm not sure if Trump's motivations go beyond Twitter slapping disclaimers on his lies and conspiracy theories (he still gets treated better than the average user who would have been banned about a hundred times by now).
But repealing 230 would be a huge giveaway to big corporations. Wouldn't be surprising if big media companies close to Trump such as News Corp are pushing for this behind the scenes.
