I get the temptation of quick money. I get the the idea of not having to work for your earnings and that “All the others are doing it” mentality.
But by speculating as a private person, are you not just tools for these obvious moral deprived society sinking pieces of Wal street shits, solely driven by greed. Or am I missing something? From a outstander point of view it just seems to god damn absurd.
That said I fully approve of this uprising giving hedge funds back of their own medicine. Spoken form one knowing very little to none about stock trade/speculation in generel.- They're smart and we're idiots. We work for them.
I know a few and they're the dumbest human beings you'll ever meet, yet they're loaded._niko
- They're smart and we're idiots. We work for them.

- "the big squeeze"?sarahfailin
- In August of 2019, when GameStop shares were below $4 a share, Burry disclosed a 3% stake in the company.jonny_quest_lives
- Burry thought shares were undervalued, pointing to GameStop’s balance sheet and predicting that the next generation of videogame consoles,jonny_quest_lives
- due out in late 2020, would still include disc drives, extending GameStop’s relevance.jonny_quest_lives
- So he was not exactly shorting the stock..,If anything he's reaping a benefit from the meteoric rise which he calls "Unnatural, Insane, and Dangerous"jonny_quest_lives
- @jonny yup, I didn't say he shorted the stock. But find it amazing this guy is AGAIN in the middle of it all!grafician
- unless he was long shorting... even then i see no reason why he wouldn't be ahead on GMEjonny_quest_lives
- Guess he was caught by surprise with all this WSB game. 3% is a huge position, he was def cooking something lolgrafician
- @sarahfaillin yup, that is a very good name, copyright that quick!grafician
- @grafician looking back $4 a share is genius especially with next gen consoles on the horizon and every game company exceeded earnings due to covid...jonny_quest_lives
- with or without Reddit one could see it moving to $20-30 dollar range with "market forces" or Wal-Mart Best Buy acquisition?jonny_quest_lives
- what do I know tho? the only adventure in my portfolio is occasionally checking on FTECjonny_quest_lives
- Indeed, I would've put the range of the stock into the $35 even, guess Burry thought the same, until all this crazy WSB action took placegrafician

- "I hope you learned something" is a really pretentious sign off slogan.sarahfailin

Can we all be hedge fund guys?
The artist, the craftsman, the farmer, the soldier, the builder, the factory worker, the teacher, the chef, the bus driver, the fishermen, the miner, the street sweeper etc...these are the people that make society able to function, yet they toil day in day out with little in return save for some personal gratification perhaps.
Yet some people make more money in an afternoon than you will make in 100 lifetimes by playing a game rigged in their favour.
So why don't we all just be financial advisors and hedge fund guys?
if we can't, if we need every single person in the house of cards that is society to help keep it up, to feed us, to protect us, to teach us, to house us, then this is a good argument for some kind of re-distribution of wealth or universal basic income or something.
Also, i_monk, when you were asking for career change advice? Get into finance, stop fucking around, everything else is just a waste of time. :)
- You need to project your disdain less towards the hedge fund guys and more towards the Fed + Gov's who are print money like there's no tomorrow.shapesalad
- Gov's get into debt, but that's normal it'll never be paid off. Instead to avoid hyper inflation they have one tool... Tax.shapesalad
- So expect higher taxes for all those that you say make society. Who will all struggle with said tax increases while seeing their $ devalued.shapesalad
- Hence folks in lockdown with nothing better to do than download robinhood and check YT or Reddit are trying to at the very least send a msg to the fed/gov.shapesalad
- And given the responses...looks like it's worked, they've got the msg and had their feathers rustled.shapesalad
- yeah good point. for sure, we're all responsible for this mess, governments especially._niko
- Redistribution of wealth or UBI is not taking from the rich and giving to the needy - it's generating more money by the Gov.grafician
- also don't forget to go to Stanford first if you want to hedge https://online.stanf…grafician

The word "plebs" was just used on FoxBiz few moments ago to describe the retail investors. Mono your friends are on TV.

- It's less about that and more that these trading platforms in order to have market access, need capital to cover trades that will clear T2, 2 days after.shapesalad
- The actual markets clearing houses told the brokers to put capital on the table incase it all goes belly up, they didn't want to be the ones left with the debt.shapesalad
- Haha. PerfectGnash
- People who compare the redditors to hedge funds are similar to those that compare the Capitol storm to BLM protests. There is a difference to some extent.monospaced
- People seem to be missing the fact that billionaires are profiting off this as well as enabling it (Musk, Chamath Palihapitiya, etc.)formed
- Everyone gets crushed with a pump and dump ponzi scheme. That's happen very, very soon, and we'll get all the "I can't believe I bet my rent!"formed
- they won't have the plebs wrecking the markets now will they lol********
- In your analogue, mono, which is blm?Gnash
- it's not a direct analog, and not perfect, so don't hold me to the fire on it :) Hedge funds are the BLM. There's some shennanigans, for sure, etcmonospaced
- Hahahahahaha! SweetGnash
- well, if you think about it, it kinda is!monospaced

- In the end GameSpot might abandon the gaming industry and just become a laughing stock (get it???)NBQ00
- Not really, because GameSpot is a website that reports and writes about videogames.face_melter

- How does Musk make money off this? He's just tweeting Doge for the lulz. The guy has tons of shares tied up to Tesla making him the richest guy currently.NBQ00
- I don't think anyone is trying to punish Billionaires. It's the Millionaires they are after.Hayzilla

- They didn't pause trading. The Market clearing house wanted to see cash on table, in case Robinhood couldn't finance the trades that take 2 days to clear.shapesalad

The pandemic has been an interesting study in social conversation.
April last year everyone was an expert in public health and epidemiology.
Through the summer we were all awash with confident chatter about police funding and how we'd restructure law enforcement.
Now everyone's explaining short positions and market squeezes to each other.
Wonder what's next? I'm here for it!
- If it taught us anything it's that the 'experts' are just as incompetent and corrupt as the rest of us especially when money and power are at stake._niko
- not talking about doctors and scientists but we've got to continue to use technology to empower the masses directly, bypass the swamp creatures in politics and_niko
- finance at the top. not Qanon nonsense but actual meaningful change that will benefit society as a whole and not just a select powerful and wealthy few._niko
