Yay 3 fillings!
What you got?

Always had pretty decent teeth, but had to get a root canal on a back molar 4 weeks ago, the day before a snowboarding trip in Colorado. Then two weeks after that got a full crown on that tooth. Had another cavity filled last weekend and I'm all good now.
Root canal went well, but damn... so many shots to numb you for that serious a procedure. And then during that, and during the filling last weekend, I got the damn giggles while my mouth was pried open. As soon as I could talk again I told the dentist "you ever see that scene in Jackass where they yank that guy's tooth out with a Lamborghini?" LOL

Developed 5 cavities when I had braces as a teenager. Recently had the silvers replaced with porcelain or something that looks exactly like my teeth. No issues since. Floss!

I think the maddest I've ever made a girl was when I told a girlfriend in college that I wanted to have all my teeth removed and replaced with diamonds. She was legitimately angry that I even said something that ridiculous.
- Pffffffffff.... move on bro ain't no thangdrake-von-drake

The last root canal I had done was so painless, I really couldn't believe it. I had braces for like 5 fucking years my teeth were so fucked up.
I've got a bridge up top, which I think I am going to get removed with better tech.

I hate going to the dentist. I grew up on military bases in the 80's and all the dentists joined to get free training. I swear half my fillings were just precautionary.
When I went to civilian dentist I was fucking floored when they actually numbed my gums *before* sticking the needle in. I don't think I've felt the same about my parents since...

got a really good one.
i'm happy.

i did invisalign.
then had a root canal recently due to a continuously botched treatment of a small chip. they fucked it up so bad they had to go in and remove bone just to have room for a cap. cost me $4k.
fucking scam artists, the lot of 'em.

I have been putting off a gum graft consult forever. Brushed too well and too hard apparently. Need to do it before my next cleaning appointment. I hate all things dental. Total irrational fear.
- Mm, out of fear I put off getting a wisdom tooth yanked for two years, til it split - then worst pain ever. Getting it removed was an utter doddle. Such a bozo.detritus

Developed a slight dental phobia due to several tooth related problems throughout childhood and adulthood. Lots o' cavities, extra teeth, root canal, some oral surgery...etc. I would have saved my parents and myself a lot of money had I brushed and flossed regularly.
I hate everything about the dentist office.
- Never understood why people would ignore their teeth like that.monospaced
- In my case it was ignorance coupled with some other issues. Learned my lesson the hard way.bezoar

had to get an extraction and implant done in my 30s on a front tooth i had smashed as a kid. lots of pliers and black and decker drills. nothing like feeling your skull and brain vibrate from having your facial bone drilled into. anyway, fun.

I had to go see an army dentist on the barracks we lived near in Germany as a kid...
I'm still fucked up about anyone going anywhere near my mouth.

A cracked tooth I've had for 20 years went bad, finally. So I got a root canal, then crown. Wait 2 weeks and pain is no better, so I have to get another root canal and another crown.
Then they lost the crown and had to remake it.All in all the worst part is the cost. I have insurance but it still cost something like $1500-2000. That root canal guy sure had a nice office and just cranked the patients through (typical staff of people, he just shakes your hand, swings in to do the op and leaves, probably 15 minutes of time per tooth).

shit that turned me against dentists:
• i was choosing a dentist and tried a couple different places. i had perfect teeth at the time. each dentist had a list of completely different "urgent" procedures that "needed" to be done.
• dental insurance will pay out x amount of money per year. dentists will come up with a list of stuff that "needs" to be done that magically comes out to that number. once it's used up you don't hear from them until the next year when that number refreshes.
• they don't tell you about risks or alternative procedures when recommending a treatment, just choose the most expensive path. you don't find out about those risks until moments before the procedure when signing paperwork.
• that paperwork includes clauses that say "you can't sue us if we fuck up, EVEN IF IT'S OUR FAULT".
• the invisalign brochure is full of case photos of the gnarliest mouths you've ever seen and almost all of them claim to have been repaired in 6 months. i had one(!) tooth i wanted straightened, a case so mild it would never be in a brochure like that, and it took THREE FUCKING YEARS. they also don't tell you that you have to wear a retainer every day after it's straightened.
- They always suggest you should shop around for Dentists. That doesn't really account for the majority of them being money cunts though.detritus
- scarabin0
• they find invisible cavities. when asked to see them on the x-ray it's just vague mumbling and hand waving in a general area
- all that said, i'm sure good dentists exist, but they're fucking unicorns. good luck finding 'emscarabin
- They do! Want a recommendation? I have a ton of friends and family in LA.monospaced

Always loved my dentists and orthodontists. Sad to hear that people have had such bad experiences that they're actually scared of a cleaning.

I've had two crowns for molars that had old filings that had cracked. The first one was a terrible experience. I went to an old school dentist and she did it the old fashioned way. Plaster mold, temporary crown for a few weeks, new crown didnt fit right...
I switched dentist and they took a 3D scan of my mouth and basically made a CNC'd me a crown in 15 minutes that fit perfectly. I would suggest anyone that needs a crown find a dentist that has the CEREC system.

no cavities and born without wisdom teeth

I was impressed that they could make my crown right there in the office. Had a little camera they put over the drilled out tooth, and 30 minutes later had the crown, and a perfect color match to my other teeth. That must be a new thing; I talked to a couple family members who said they had to wait a couple weeks for a crown.
