I don't get all the hate for Prometheus, everyone I talk to says how bad they thought it was. I really liked it, wished it was a bit longer as it felt a bit rushed in places. Oh and not sure why Guy Pearce was cast as an old man when there was no reason to use a young guy. But other than that I really like it. I'm coming from liking the first few Alien films a lot and the space/sci-fi genre so maybe I'm a sucker for this stuff.
- Because it was following up Aliens, which Scott directed, which was FAR more creepy and scary. This was just... kinda there. No tension or anything in it.CygnusZero4
- Sorry *Alien. James Cameron did Aliens.CygnusZero4
- Well, also it was full of horrible mistakes, profound seeming mcguffins and dead ends, and made absolutely no sense at all.Muncher
- It was like a film conceived and written whilst hoovering cocaine.Muncher
- Yeah true, it wasn't a suspense film at all. I still like watching it whenever it's on, even though there are a load of cringe parts - 'We were so wrong'.Ranger
- I liked sunshine too and people always slate that one as well.Ranger
- My favourite bit was the bit with the thing on that bitset
- Geology guy throws two mapping robots, later forgets he has a map and gets lost. Stays the night and dies... hmmmNutter

Awesome locations, brilliant cinematography and terrific art production, very suitable for the big screen. Imo, it's a big yes, get your tickets!
Katherine Waterston may be able to take care of the role much like Sigourney Weaver. Nice approach to the genesis of the xenomorph. I really enjoyed the whole thing.. even some ridiculously gore scenes. It is a very well achieved tribute to the franchise, at the height of Prometheus, with clear references to the old movies, and Ridley Scott's signature all over it.

I enjoyed the film. Gotta keep your expectations low with shit like this.
There was that one David/Walter/flute cringe worthy scene though. Yikes.
- It was meant to be strange and awkward. THEYRE ROBOTS.CygnusZero4
- Why should expectations be low? the original was so good and not lo-brow popcorn/horror/sci-f... trash flick that its evolved into.dee-dubs
- If we were talking Fast and Furious, then yes I'd agree, go into it knowing its shite and have low expectations cos it was shite from the beginning.dee-dubs

As for the 3D I'd imagine Zbrush was involved at some point?dyspl - it's a great poster, the xenomorphs fucking up the engineersernexbcn
- might have been zbrush, my money is on maya though.mugwart
- Probably both actually, they did the inial build in zbrush, into maya to tidy up the messes, worked on the film! Rendered this shit out! Amazing poster.mugwart

for fuck sake ... Alcoholic film makers, talking poetry and classical music does not make you cultural nor deep.
So much potential and so much talent at his disposal ... and he made that...
So much 'convenient' plot telling, VFX mostly was dire, (there was 2d rain sheets slap comped onto the shots and some of the rendering ... terrible) camera work did not look nor feel like Ridley. I dont think it was the projection but the choice of lens and the DI the look and feel look shit. Which is unlike Ridleys other works. No far that guy drinks he always has a high camera production show...
The characters.... you know the actors gave it all they could but the script was lacking as was the plot twists...
Gore was great though, as was the 'natural' aliens.
This felt a sub par teen slasher, made by a drunk, with an incredible set design, whom never saw a slasher.
The twist was visible from the offset. So much happened and yet nothing happened....
really wanted to like this as well.
rant at an end!
- gosh and prometheus was so good, and the plot was so cohesive. what a surprise! i mean i'm shocked. shaken. i can't possibly lay it on any thicker.sarahfailin

It's filler, not killer.
- Nngh, is it worth it though?detritus
- for the price of a cinema ticket?
- sadly, no.Bluejam - ^ Oh please. It doesnt cost much to go to the movies, and it doesnt take much of your time. Im sure its plenty worth it.CygnusZero4
- As long as it is not walk out of the theater awful, which I know its not, then how could it not be worth it? Should I sit at home and watch HGTV instead?CygnusZero4
- I find it increasingly hard to sit in the dark for 2 hours in a movie theatre, so if I'm going to, it best be worth it. Otherwise I'll wait and watch it at homedetritus
- ..although that said, I have a higher tolerance for cinema outings where the whizz-bang effects are better seen on the big screen. Case in point: Avatardetritus
- no, it's not walk out awful but it's one of those films that imo, i wouldn't get stressed if i missed it's run in cinemas.Bluejam
- as it happened, had fuck all going on last friday and a mate had tickets.Bluejam

I'm still on the fence with this one. I am enjoying the trailers and teasers but I loved the trailers for Prrometheus and the levels of disappointment for that film were at Crystal Skull heights.
As a wise man once said:
- You mean Temple of Doom |v|9000teh
- lol at Crystal Skull. So true.detritus
- Hey, where's my credit? :)

With all the Alien Hype I'd recommend playing "Alien Isolation" if you haven't tried it already (it came out in 2014).
Unlike all other alien games its mainly inspired of the first movie, so the design retro and chuky. You can't kill the alien, only hide from it, distract it to go somewhere else or at the most scare it off for a little while. Generally if it sees you, you are dead. Its very tense experience. You can get it for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Linux and Mac.
- It looks good, but stressful. Not my kind of game.CygnusZero4
- I'll get this when I eventually jump on the VR wagon, then likely never ever use VR again..detritus
- Its possible to mod it so the alien ignores you if you just want to stroll through and look at the design: http://www.moddb.com…Nutter
- ^ ooh, this may well be the only way I can play this. My 16yo niece loves this game but I get the absolute fucking fear within the first 10 minutes.face_melter
- Is there something similar for the Working Joes? I seem to remember they fuck you up as well - or only when provoked?face_melter
- Face_melter: yep this one makes should make everthing non hostile: http://www.moddb.com…Nutter
- Cool. Thanks - i'll check it out.

- how much do you want to bet that he'll die in it? ridley scott is awful at making horribly predictable stereotypes.CygnusZero4
- i knew who was dying in prometheus 15 mins into that borefest movie. the nerdy guy and the douchcanoe with tatts. try harder next time ridley.CygnusZero4
- i can smell death on him. he's probably the cowardly betrayer who dies the most horrible way, trapped by his own devices.sarahfailin

I liked prometheus... but maybe it was the idea, the concept of the story that I liked. It does a great job of feeding that need to know where those fuckers came from. I guess it wasn't a great movie, as far as movies go.
Its that situation where, you love the story and idea, but the movie just doesn't cut it... so you try to find any good in it.
Kinda like Star Wars 1,2,3
- There's a great film in there somewhere. I'm hoping for a decent Director's Cut - Scott seems to use them to fix what went sideways with the theatrical release.face_melter
- Can't compare it to Star Wars. SW was ground breaking and a great story, Pr was interesting story and a very bad movie.formed
- 1,2,3 were not ground breaking. Each time they come on i'm squinting at the TV straining my brain to find good in there.inteliboy
- I think, he thinks I meant the original star wars. 1, 2, 3, were about as ground breaking as a selfie stick. Terrible comparison, I know.sofakingback

Me too, I liked the idea of Prometheus - an alien life form started us and now realises the error of their ways so needs to come and wipe us out. If only it was less Hollywood and more - maybe - Korean or something!

I think this series has gotten to that point where the iconography of it, the ideas, the alien itself, is what's good, and will always be good, but the films themselves won't deliver.
Like Jason Voorhees, he's a great horror icon. His movies tho, they suck for the most part. Or Godzilla. Franchise fatigue.
- agree. people still have love for it and expectations.
Netflix presents Alien: Origin?brandelec
