- Define "retired" ;)OBBTKN
- I know people who retired on their 40s or 50s (the age to retire here is after 65 yo) but lots of money, but retired just before the last two crisis...OBBTKN
- Know, there's not easy to retire with a good retirement plan, and inflation is brutalOBBTKN
- Know = NowOBBTKN
- Ten years ago, I saw myself as happy, almost approaching retirement... thank goodness I didn't, bills have multiplied, a lot!OBBTKN

Not all of this is about age but here goes...
I'm sure my future is nothing but a decline into disaster.
One of my best friends for decades is in stage 4 cancer. He could go any day now. I'm pretty crushed by it. He was a huge Cure fan and I wanted to send him a link to the new album but the subject matter is heavily based on mortality, so I just listen to it and think of him.
The future of the US is a disaster for obvious reasons.
I'm probably going to be laid off from a company that's imploding this year. This has been the best job I've ever had and I've done some of my best work in the last two years. As many of you know, the job market is pretty impossible right now. I don't have enough to retire and losing this job will mess up whatever plans I had to catch up.
Whine whine whine...
I know we all have things to deal with. Feel free to downvote.
- I upvoted for the sharing and for positivity.oey_oey
- That's tough. Try to stay positive and appreciate you sharing, we can be arseholes round here sometimes but shit like this hits home. Not sure if ...Morning_star

- you got an upvote from me dude.
I'm in the same boat in many ways.
but I'm generally an optimistic guy, so i just figure things are bound to get better :)exador1 - and like morning_star said, we can be quite hilariously argumentative here, but after 20+ years of chatting with each other, i think there's a bond...exador1
- so, know that we all do indeed give a fuck about you and what you're going through...and reach out of if you need anything...exador1
- 20 odd years ago, i recall we all pitched in and ordered pizza for one of us that was in need... 20 years later, i feel like we'd do that and more :)exador1
- Thanks for all the kind thoughts. There's definitely a bond that I can't share with the gf or friends. Being in the industry gives us a unique viewpoint.CyBrainX
- Stay strong. So sorry about your friend. If you are feeling the downsizing of the company, take charge now to put yourself in a position to interview nowBonSeff
- It's tough out there and you will need a thick skin, but keep a positive outlook!
All the best, man.BonSeff - chin up, chappie - best foot forward and all thathans_glib
- Sometimes it's not easy, I know, but try to stay positive. Good moments don't last long, hold on to them when they come, and don't let go!OBBTKN
- I'm sure the new work you've made will get you more in the future, especially as you think some of it is your best.
Sorry about your friend, hope you get toPhanLo - spend time together and say goodbye.PhanLo

My dad's best friend died yesterday. He was 78 and i've known him almost as long as I've known my dad.
He used to buy all his friend's kids a Terry's Chocolate Orange every year for Christmas and put a £20 note inside, and as we all got older, got married and had kids, all our wives / husbands and kids also got one. it was a weird cosy family tradition that I know I'll miss, as will everyone else.
A reminder really that death is coming for everyone, one of the only truly inevitable things that will happen to us.
Everyone thinks about 'legacy' as this profound, grand sweeping idea of changing peoples lives or leaving a body of work behind that is significant, but i know that there are three generations of people who will really miss his tradition. Just a gesture to say that he thought about us all every year and reached out to let us know he loved us in a small but special way. That's a legacy to me.
CheersLawrence

I looked at a restaurant check the other day and had to really concentrate in order to read it. I was two martinis and a glass of wine deep, so there's that, but definitely going to get an eye exam!
