I've been painting a wall in town, near a lot of student housing, by a canal. Did two fairly late nights on it as it's quite well lit.
All the first year students were out on the beers and it was strange interacting with them, they didn't seem that much older than my son.
I could remember sneaking into student clubs and them looking like adults to me. Time flies

I started taking statins this week.
I've had naturally high cholesterol my whole life, nothing I do brings it down.
For the past year I became a pescatarian, ran 3-4 times a week, played ball-hockey once a week, cut down alcohol to 1-2 drinks a week, worked fairly regularly, took a Metamucil supplement daily and have a high metabolism so I've always been fairly fit...and yet my cholesterol level shot up to the highest it's ever been ffs.
so after much debating and on the urging and recommendation of my Dr, I finally bit the bullet and took the damn pill.
I feel defeated, but probably for my own good. Any one else on it?
- I also eat olive oil by the gallon so my good cholesterol is at a good level but my bad cholesterol is off the chart._niko
- <* worked out fairly regularly_niko
- I take Atorvastatin. Doc says it's helping my numbers!Akagiyama
- Probably genetic like me - look into disbetahyperlipidemi... and specifically your beta-LDL component to the total?theonlyengineerhere
- @Akagiyama - Atorvastatin Calcium is the generic name of Lipitortheonlyengineerhere
- Change your lifestyle, wait a while for it to settle, remeasure. Repeat. But sometimes your genetics are against you.comicsans

Pee and check if you have to poop before you leave, pee when you arrive at the place, pee before you start heading home, pee when you are back at home
- this is literally the childhood road trip checklist.imbecile
- Yup, the way back to the toiletmaquito
- However, I prefer “piss”maquito
- Not every pee pee time is a poo poo time. But every poo poo time is a pee pee time.microkorg
- should have told that the jan.6 insurrections than they wouldnt have pooped inside the capitol building...neverscared
- When on the go, I pre-emptively take a piss wherever toilets are available.jagara

I work with some 22-26 y/o fellows that never studied editorial design. I mean, they put up layouts for digital stuff like commerce and landing pages, but have NEVER had an infatuation with Emigre, Raygun, The Face, i+d, Print, or shit. They just fucking exist and make me feel old and grumpy.
- i am treated like a sad mystical wizard who is called in when shit hits the fan and or the project is near catastrophic failurejonny_quest_lives

- Across my office is a "TikTok agency", I see all these young people and don't understand what they're doing.SimonFFM
- if you care about some but not all of them is that ok :D fuckin hate raygunArchitectofFate
- How do you NOT know what Emigre and Raygun are? I mean, do they even know what kerning like a bitch means?maikel
- Embrace the idiocracy while you can, AI will make them all irrelevant soonBluejam
- All those fantastic magazines date back to 25 years ago. The challenge lies in your hands to present them in a captivating and valuable mannerSlashPeckham
- Still see some nice magazine designs these days. Nothing groundbreaking but well designed.microkorg
- Can AI kern like a bitch? can it?
utopian, let us know.monospaced - lol i fucking hated editorial design.sted
- Baseline too...wordssssss
- I was chatting to a young designer today who just uses Canva, she was saying since leaving college it's easy to smash designs out in that. And fuck adobe.PhanLo
- Canva is for marketers who don't have budget for real designers, and who are happy to settle for absolute shit.monospaced
- An old school mate was using Canva to do his menus for his take away and his instagram posts. I still use Illustrator, hehe.PhanLo
- A good designer can get by in canva, but it isn’t a standalone by any means.monospaced

I also work with a bunch of graphic designers, 20-30YO. Their skills range, some are very good. Excellent, even.
Working on some substantial brochures/catalogs with lots of information to convey. Decent budget with high-end finishes, etc. It's a really legit & fun opportunity. I find out NONE of them give 2 shits about grid systems.
I pull out books by Joseph Muller Brockmann, Wim Crouwel etc. for a bit of inspiration/educational time. NO ONE has even heard of them. They go on paging through the books with looks of subtle amusement, then set them down and go on their way designing without ANY fucking grids.
Makes me wonder what the fuck I'm even doing anymore
- you should do the grid system and let them fill stuff in :-)
Did you ever notice that Brockmann published a manual for industry users on how to use grids.uan - it's like a template. layout thinking boiled down to some rules, with solutions for common problems.uan
- Like no standard columns or margins?! WTFmonospaced
- Not only as a designer, also as a consumer, I find grid systems very pleasing. So, I don't understand the young designers.SimonFFM
- grid systems don't let me express my feelings through art thodoesnotexist
