The first Twitter fueled bank run...thanks Elon!
Customers withdrew $42 billion in a single day last week from Silicon Valley Bank, leaving the bank with $1 billion in negative cash balance, the company said in a regulatory filing. The staggering withdrawals unfolded at a speed enabled by digital banking and were likely fueled in part by viral panic spreading on social media platforms and, reportedly, in private chat groups.

White House Freaked Out Over Elon Musk's Selfie With Top Russian Propagandist
Remember, Musk is a huge government contractor.https://futurism.com/_next/image…
The White House is apparently irked with SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk after a selfie of the entrepreneur with a Russian propagandist ended up online.
As Bloomberg reports, there doesn't appear to have been much of an exchange between Musk and Russian TV personality Nailya Asker-Zade beyond the purportedly state-controlled journalist asking him for a photo at the World Cup in December.
Nevertheless, the photo and exchange — which ended up on TikTok, naturally — represent a problem for Washington, given not just Musk's general business stature but specifically that he controls SpaceX, a major NASA and military contractor.

Elon Musk memo suggests Twitter worth less than half of what he paid for it
Calculation based on leaked offer to staff that implies firm valued at $20bn compared with $44bn he bought it forTwitter is worth less than half of what Elon Musk paid for it six months ago having lost more than $20bn (£16.4bn) in value, according to calculations based on a leaked memo from the billionaire.
Musk suggested in memo to the social media company’s staff that it is now valued at less than $20bn. This compares with the $44bn he paid for it in October 2022.
The company’s steep devaluation follows Musk’s turbulent takeover. Several large advertisers have left the platform and a major source of funds for Musk’s purchase of the company, the investment firm Fidelity, has written down the value of its stake by 56%.

Early signs that people are buying into Elon Musk’s vision for social media are not looking good
When Elon Musk took over Twitter, he said he wanted to protect its place as a “digital town square,” where ideas from all corners of the internet could flourish. But soon, if you want your voice to really be heard in the town square, you’ll need to pay.
Earlier this week, Musk tweeted that, starting April 15, Twitter will only recommend content from paid accounts in the For You tab, the first screen users see when they open the app.
This means that if you don’t start paying $8 a month for Twitter’s subscription plan, Twitter Blue, you’ll have a harder time getting your tweets seen by the masses. For people viewing but not posting on Twitter, you’ll be seeing a lot more content from paid accounts, which currently make up only 0.2 percent of all users. After Twitter users started complaining about the new plan, Elon clarified that people you follow will also show up in the For You feed. Plus, if users don’t like the For You feed, they can switch to the Following feed, which ranks tweets chronologically.
But the main point still stands: Musk wants to fill your Twitter feed with a higher ratio of paid accounts, and is pressuring more free users to pay for what was once considered a given.

pushing a bs coin that can be converted to usd to pay the bills@twitter while making a texbook example how a billionaire uses money and influence to stay above the law, and little people applaud it while they have no idea what is actually happening.

NPR pushes back after Twitter designates it as ‘state-affiliated media’
The change to NPR’s designation appears to be in violation of Twitter’s own original policy on how the social media platform determines which companies receive this label. “State-affiliated media is defined as outlets where the state exercises control over editorial content through financial resources, direct or indirect political pressures, and/or control over production and distribution,” the policy reads.

- Musk even seems to have thrown Taibbi under the bus since then, possibly to put some distance between Twitter and these misleading claims he published.yuekit
