    - Lefties drive Teslas.
    - Elon goes righty, which might hurt leftie Tesla sales.
    - But righties might be into Teslas now, which might boost rightie Tesla sales.

Elon has demonstrated, notoriously with Twitter, that he can ruthlessly cut expenses even when his top advisors tell him that it will destroy the company. He ruined twitter, gutted it, lost a ton of value, hasn’t recovered from it. Twitter costs far less to run, and is far less valuable to society. He failed but he did cut the costs.

In short, Elon has demonstrated that his ego is strong enough to ruthlessly cut even when painful and unpopular.

Trump is appointing him because he’s looking for a scapegoat, a ruthless bastard that can take the criticism and push forward even if it’s a massive failure.

Agree or disagree, America has a massive debt addiction that WILL sink the country if not addressed. 13% of all tax revenue goes only to paying interest. At current levels, this will rise to over 20% in ten years. For every $10,000 you pay in taxes, $1,300 gets us nothing.

If left unchecked, it is only a matter of time that that would rise to 50%, then 75%, etc. That’s how debt works. Spend more than you have, endlessly, and you go bankrupt. Simple.

The only way out of this problem is massive cuts to govt spending, or printing money, or kick the can down the road. The US has been kicking the can down the road for decades.

I’m not saying Trump and Elon will succeed. It’s possibly a problem destined to be met with failure. I’m just telling you what is happening. The stock market agrees, but it also can be wrong.

And by the way, both political parties are well aware of this problem. They just don’t talk about it much. Most politicians would prefer to kick the can.

It is the biggest problem facing America. Trump is going to try something different. It could end in disaster, but I’m guessing trump knows that doing nothing is also disaster. And he seems to be the kind of guy that would rather do something and fail spectacularly than to do nothing.

    • One will surely sink the other. We tried something similar in the UK with Cummings + Boris. Unstable genius / narcissistic man-child combo. Not a natural fit.Fax_Benson
    • Yeah might happen. Could be catastrophe.nb
    • But kicking the can forever is guaranteed eventual catastrophe.nb

    • Btw most of that debt is to China. Americans paid about $600 Billion JUST IN INTEREST. Just handing money to China.nb
    • Yes, we should increase taxes on the wealthy. But it won’t be enough. Americans simply cannot afford these interest payments. Simple as that.nb

    Freedom of speech my ass.

This fuckin guy bought a major global publishing platform, took it private so he could be in control over shareholders, then forced the engineers to push notify his tweets to all users so that they would get more reach.

Freedom of speech my ass. Laughable. You’re an uneducated fool if you buy that line.

    • Does the US government still have control over what appears/doesn't appear on X? Are dissenting posts...or people...silenced or removed?MondoMorphic
    • Being from the Left, seeing his or Right-centric posts might be unusual, but that's just because they were previously being silenced.MondoMorphic
    • You’re an idiotnb

    • The app triggers a push notification to me for most of his tweets even though I don’t follow him.nb
    • That’s not me being over-sensitive to opposing views. It’s just him turning up his own voice over others.nb
    • I have a tight curated twitter, I don’t follow anyone who drifts into politics — right, left or center. I don’t find twitter to be useful for that.nb

I now understand why he "fucked up " Twitter.

He didn't. He bought the most powerful political propaganda tool, and pushed right wing MAGA ideology. In a really blatant way.

Next thing you know, Trump gets reelected, in my opinion largely because of Twitter pushing scaremongering hateful shit onto everyone's phone multiple times a day, for a couple of years.

He basically used Twitter to buy Trump the election, and if the platform was destroyed in the process, so be it. An election is worth a lot more.

Now, surprise surprise, he's riding around with Donny Tramp and being given power to make policies that will very obviously suit him.

What do y'all think? Am I nuts? Should this be posted in the conspiracy of the day thread?

    • Nah, not really. Sort of but not really. He bought twitter for many reasons. It’s not much different than any billionaire buying a newspaper. Typica playbook.nb
    • He bought twitter because A) he didn’t like the way it was going, and his ego told him he could fix it and probably turn a profit.nb
    • B) he’s a bit immature, terribly insecure and addicted to admiration. To him, owning Twitter is like being king of the internet. And C) he could afford it.nb
    • Erm, so you don't think being king of the internet, per se, can give you more of a platform to promote Trump than legacy media outlets?Ianbolton
    • He keeps spouting how Twitter is the Town square where anything goes while adding a shit ton of bots. There are thousands of Elon Musk-esque bots on thereIanbolton
    • Spunking out disinformation and misinformation every single day now. And then there's the "look at all the libtards leaving'. He knows what he's doingIanbolton
    • Online speech should be moderated. If you wouldn't say it to someones face in real life, then you shouldn't typing it. But ya know, cunts love free speechIanbolton
