“ I used the new Geometry Nodes from Blender to create this system for procedural buildings using prebuilt modules. This way I can make different variations, set their dimensions and distribute objects like plants in an easier way.”
- Love the style.Chimp
- Awesome! Would love to play with that system.brt44
- Love the technique. Definently going to look at that.islandbridge
- nice ramutopian
- Sorcerymisterhow
- Very cool. Architecturally homogeneous though, and no window gaps. Advanced sim city.cannonball1978
- Whats going on here?

I'm just starting to use blender, mostly for graphic elements and wanted to recreate the logo below as practice. I got the overall shape using the screw modifier and made the inside flat by remove a few vertices but how do I round the ends of the spring? and how would I map the that gradient along the inside only? Any ideas or links that could help?
- I can't help but that looks dope!Hayzilla
- lovely. i'd leave it as is, more calligraphic that way.hans_glib
- not a pro on blender but select inside faces, go to UV Editing screen do smart UV Project, hit A to select all in UV screen. Hit New on top to create a materialBeeswax
- dont know further. and this might be wrong too.Beeswax
- @hans_glib, just in case there is confusion, I didn't make this. I posted these to show how the ends are rounded. I cant figure that part out.voiceof
- I think the best bet is to make the profile shape, with the curved ends, before you use the screw modifier.monospaced
- lovelydopepope
- looks great! nice workGnash
- @gnash Not me. https://www.mission.… did the work.voiceof
- Rereading my post, I can see how it gives the wrong impression.voiceof
- ah, nice animation though :)Gnash
- niceprophetone
- @beeswax thanks for that.voiceof
- Try a bevel modifier to round the corners.
Do UVs before you add screw modifier, or just disablei t if you haven't applied it.monNom - You can do that in illustratorHayoth
- ^ animate in illy?Gnash
- @hayoth, I could but it would be limited to one view.voiceof

- Dropping soon! :-)
I thought I could sell it with the 3d Object available too. Will add some colour tonight and see how it looks.PhanLo - What about the global warmings? No judgment, just interested in your opinion since you posted about the topic previously.PeterPancake
- I like the idea of doing it but it also confuses me. Someone had contacted me to say if I did one, they would want to buy it exclusively, so maybe I could get aPhanLo
- new shed. :-)
But also could melt the planet.PhanLo - You can set up blender specific mapping in Wacom control panel. I have pan rotate zoom set up around shift/ctrl keys and one of my rocker switches.monNom
- Works great for sculpting. I'm sure you could figure out something similar with grease pencil.monNom
- Proper quandary. Some ideas for the new shed ;) https://blog.roomgo.…PeterPancake

- The normal way or the geometry nodes way?sausages
- This has been on my todo list for the past few versionskoma_
- The sprinkles were geometry nodes but I skipped the part where he went into nodes to create several unique donuts. makes my brain melt.lodef
- v4 just came out so that's why i went for it komalodef
- Nice! I’ve been thinking about giving another try to blender.dyspl
- It's some coincidence that X-Particles and Blender both named their renderer Cycles.CyBrainX

All Blender. Incredible.

- Wow, I'm hooked. I need to know who is the rude man on the motorcycle.garbage
- The entire time I was oscillating between the great script and then remembering how much I fucking hate Blender. Mad props.garbage

Love the style. Even has a tutorial:

- Nice one Dyspl, the little building is lovely!PhanLo
- Thanks :) it’s really beginner level stuff, I’m still learning the basics. I can’t tell if I’m switching over to blender or not yet butdyspl
- It’s definitely interesting. I need to spend more time on it.dyspl

- Nice. Have been looking a working solution for ages. Set it up and it totally works - it will be incredibly useful for my architectural 3d work.face_melter
- Yes! Thank you!! I did some “photogrammetry” with google screen shots to make it work on my last project but this should be the key!!Static_Line

- The question I have is... what is the commercial business need hire someone that can model a monster creature in 3D?shapesalad
- Because I'd love to spend hours developing such skills, but last time I looked through job listings I didn't see anyone hiring a blender creature sculpting pro.shapesalad
- Well.. this is not a 3D Business Thread.brt44
- Blender has been a good software option for only about 5 years now. Previous to that it wasn’t able to compete. 5 years is a short time for studios to adapt.brt44
- have you seen how many names are in the credits for Cg artists these days? It’s like 6-7 thousand at least.monospaced
- Like for any action or superhero movie. Maybe 10-11 thousand digital artists? At least 30 per minute. At least.monospaced
- all sorts of monsters on the unity asset store https://assetstore.u…kingsteven
- dyspl3
- What would you say are the pre-reqs in terms of 3D software familiarity?duckseason
- looks awesome. Is it better than C4D in your opinion?shapesalad
- I'm too much of a beginner to really have a valuable advice, but it's easier to have nice renders thanks to EEVEE.dyspl
- nice! thanks for sharing. Ive been eyeing his class for a while.atomholc
- PhanLo4
- This is great. I have such a hard time with terrain anything.cannonball1978
- There's a new one out now that does mushrooms and plants too. It worked really well for the animations.PhanLo

Jesus, Blender has become really impressive. Give it a few years and it will be on par as Houdini or Maya.
- Maybe it is already. It's hard to tell because Blender doesn't have the big studios backing it yet.NBQ00
- I thought Khara (Evangelion) is supporting Blender.uan

- Amazing piece of software compared to the actual industry standard.ApeRobot
- When you compare the new blender and maya 2020, it's a fucking joke. That new arnold version look like something out of the stone age of 3D renderer.ApeRobot

Currently taking HeavyPoly class :
https://gumroad.com/vlingI'm 4weeks in and I can't recommend it enough!
It's pretty intense and you can forget about free times after your 9to5 for the duration of the training but you learn a lot faster than you would just by yourself. On a side note EEVEE is amazing.
- Would be great to see what you're making, HeavyPoly make amazing work, the workflow seems really good too. They also seem to have changed the interface too.PhanLo
- What 3d software did you used to use, dyspl?Nairn
- I used to work with cinema4d, but stopped around the end of 2012. As I didn’t have strong foundations I lost it, and couldn’t really get back at it.dyspl
- monNom3
- His work is incredible.PhanLo
- can only work as a freelancer, if this was actually ILM, Weta etc an new pipeline would have to be build. This is 'probably' the reason the old is still in us.mugwart
- That 3D pencil stuff is sick sick sick. No other 3D app has this. If this was touted by Autodesk/ Maya it would be hyped bigly but you barely hear when Blender.NBQ00
