"Bezos' Blue Origin to NASA: We'll pay to build you a lunar lander'
"Today Blue Origin published an offer to NASA saying it would be willing to put up to $2 billion dollars into developing a lunar lander just to get back into the game."
https://hotair.com/john-s-2/2021…
"NASA is paying Space X $2.9 billon for this mission and Blue Origin is basically saying it will do the same thing mostly on its own dime. "
- Bezos using the old Amazon dirty tricks book undercuting prices to attack competitors.
Hope he'll thank again all those poor Amazon employees for paying againgrafician - Not to mention Blue Dildo never coming even close to the technology level of SpaceX, NASA should lol at Bezosgrafician
- Not to mention Blue Dildo actually started ahead of SpaceX but never delivered anything solid, while Elon taking W after W in a very short decadegrafician
- Real competitor for SpaceX would be only China after hacking all that info to build space stations and sending rovers to Mars in a few years...grafician
- Godsamn Besoz is such a losernb
- er.. no - this is basically what SpaceX do. Bezos just cottoned belatedly that he needed to show actually invest to get investment.Nairn
- Nasa's learnt a lot over this past decade or so, thanks to SpaceX.Nairn
- *"show actual investment", damnitNairn
- Competition would be very good in this area, but apparently not from the likes of Blue Origin OR Virgin - yet!grafician

Astronomers see back of a black hole for first time, proving Albert Einstein was right.
- paywall. observed xrays coming off an accretion disk, bent by gravity (gen. relativity), allowing us to detect them tho on the other side. bad headline.sarahfailin
- general relativity has already been "proven" many times. we didn't see "the back of a black hole" black holes spin very fast, so we always see all sides.sarahfailin
- All I want to know is are black holes racists or what?Ianbolton
- not as racist as white holes, cracker!sarahfailin
- White dwarf stars are not only racist, but ableist.monospaced

DAmn, we almost lost the ISS tonight
fuck
"Thrusters on the Service Module of the International Space Station are currently being used to counter errant thrusters on the Nauka module just attached to the station. Listen live to MCC-Houston and ISS crew dialogue here:"
- so some Russian module docked then because of a glitch started firing thrusters causing the ISS to move in an erratic positiongrafician

- Elon: "Over time, we might get orbital payload up to ~150 tons with full reusabity. If Starship then launched as an expendable, payload would be ~250 tons. "grafician
- ^for comparison the ISS has around 420T mass, this means the Starship could load up a new ISS in 2 trips!grafician
- Also "SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is aiming to build a Starship rocket every 72 hours in the company’s new factory in Texas. "grafician
- ^ source:
https://www.digitalt…grafician - If Starship works, which I fucking hope it does (eventually), it will change everything we know about access to space.
Fucking Go, SpaceX.Nairn - It's happening whatever - even if SpaceX fails, which I doubt it will - China will follow-through very shorlty. Thereafter, every cunt'll be on it.Nairn
- This will also put them at the front of commercial space viability.monospaced

Good overview of what SX is up to now with starship development.
Irrespective of what your opinions of Musk might be, the sheer scope of investment and industry at here - on their own dime - is highly impressive. Compare to Blue Origin who.. er.. well.
I love how downlo a lot of it is too. It's like some future Star Trek Movie, looking back at the early days....
- Fuck, not just BO - but every goddamn military industry behwheouth too.Nairn
- Starship instantly becomes one of the most important military assets. Built cheap enough, it's a space truck - one time use at worst - reusable at best.Nairn
- *behwemouth, i mean if we're going to spell things wrong, spell them right wrong at least.Nairn

Ownership of Lunokhod 2 and the Luna 21 lander was sold by the Lavochkin Association for $68,500 in December 1993 at a Sotheby's auction in New York.[18][21] (The catalog[22] incorrectly lists lot 68A as Luna 17/Lunokhod 1).The buyer was computer gaming entrepreneur and space tourist Richard Garriott (son of the astronaut Owen K. Garriott), who stated in a 2001 interview with Computer Games Magazine's Cindy Yans that:
"I purchased Lunakod 21 [sic] from the Russians. I am now the world's only private owner of an object on a foreign celestial body. Though there are international treaties that say, no government shall lay claim to geography off planet earth, I am not a government. Summarily, I claim the moon in the name of Lord British!" lol

"Satellite Smash
A Chinese military satellite appears to have gotten smashed by a disintegrating Russian rocket, Space.com reports, in what’s likely the worst orbital collision since 2009.The collision illustrates the growing danger of derelict spacecraft parts and other jetsam in Earth’s orbit, where they can smash functional equipment — as well as the extraordinary difficulty in figuring out what’s going on in Earth’s orbit."
- Mars will become our next landfill and planet dump.utopian
- were is the danger when this military fuckers nuke themselves in orbit?uan
- There are treaties against weapons in space and owning space property. So space will always be free for all.grafician
- sure, like the Geneva Conventions that are honoured in every single war on the planet :-)uan
