Having a fun day mediating discussion in my band with the drummer pulling out of a sold out show next month because the venue are asking for proof of vaccination or proof of a recent lateral flow test. Vaccine passports aren't a thing here but lack of adequate legislation has left local venues struggling to find ways to protect themselves.

Drummer is vaccinated and does tests every week or so like the rest of us and TBH i'm on his side (against vaccine passports although don't give enough fucks to not play)... I'm waiting for the venue to get back to us with an explanation of why we have to prove to the bouncers:

    - Something easily faked with a photo of a negative lateral flow test
    - Being vaccinated doesn't stop you from spreading the fucking thing
    - Most of us had our second shot 6 months ago so are not as protected
    - 80% of adults here are double vaccinated

While liability everywhere else in the world is covered with signage:

    - DOGS MUST BE KEPT ON LEADS
    - NO GLASS BOTTLES IN PARK
    - DO NOT ENTER IF UNVACCINATED OR HAVEN'T TESTED NEGATIVE IN 48 HOURS

We're the main draw at the show so it's awkward as fuck, I know we're gonna have to post some sort of explanation on the socials. More to the point I think there will be vaccine passports eventually and if we're not against them i'll feel like we endorsed them - and there's not that many good drummers in this town.

    • drummer also works in a pharmaceutics lab and knows his onions. guitarist is on the board/ legal advisor to the venue AWKWARD :Dkingsteven
    • Whats your issue with VaxPassports? I figured by around March 2020 something like them would ultimately become necessary, rightly or wrongly.Nairn
    • No problem with them for international travel but in a pub, having a game of pints and masks down spitting in eachothers' faces they do shit all...kingsteven
    • or playing in a band with 600 people breathing and shouting while staring at you hahahkingsteven
    • drummer thinks it all leads to digital proof of negative testing which leads to some sort of pharma led tyrannical dystopia...kingsteven
    • i think if you go to the pub unvaccinated or unwell you're a fucking idiot and mandatory vaccination is less tyrannical than carrying and asking proof of itkingsteven
    • i applaud you on asking the venue the obvious questions and bravo to your drummer for standing up for what's right.pr2
    • seems to be the venue were told to do it by the city council, the management know its daft but cant stay open otherwise. - a slippery slopekingsteven
    • not sure we can pull out at this point tbh, the gig may not happen anyway but a lot of effort has gone in. gonna leave it until the weekend to make a decisionkingsteven

The CDC advisory committee is meeting today to see if they should aprove the covid vax for 5-11 kids and yet they already have a page up to help spreading the "information" about the vax in case it gets approval. What does it tell you? Are they simply well prepared or the conclusion is foregone?

    https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/cov…

  • pr2-5

You test covid vax for adults, you get 46,000 participants, you test covid vax for kids 5-11, you get 2,300...

Some great minds went behind this thinking.

    • Any science paper with only 2300 participants would be thrown into "maybe" pile and yet here we have FDA recommendation.pr2
    • There is science and there is government-sponsored "science".pr2
    • pr2, you seem to be consistently under the impression that somehow 'science' is infallible and that 'science papers' are the bastion of integrity and rigor...Morning_star
    • ...2300 participants in a trial is statistically significant and many times more than most 'science papers' get.Morning_star
    • pr2 knows better than the groups with combined millenia of experiencemonospaced
    • 2300 is significant to put the findings into "maybe" category - it is NOT even close to make policy for a 300mil+ country.pr2
    • there is a crap load of papers with thousands of participants, some going into tens or even hundreds of thousands.pr2
    • Through all of your protestations that we should believe in the science you consistently misunderstand statistics and dismiss social factors. Some of your...Morning_star
    • ...claims are valid discussion points but your ability reject any pushback as a personal afront is puzzling.Morning_star
    • what's puzzling is how my cool attitude of simply looking at invalidity of sample size you mistranslate as "personal affront"pr2
    • what's puzzling is that you think you know better than the people conducting the tests and doing the science itselfmonospaced
    • what's puzzling to me is that you continuously refuse acknowledge the thousands of scientist who disagree with the political status quo.pr2
    • pr2 you have a point. There is certainly not scientific consensus. However, you are wrong about 2300 participants not being significant.Morning_star
    • as i said, it goes into "maybe" bucket. when you have papers that deal with dozens and even hundreds of thousands, 2k is paltry.pr2
    • there IS a reason why EVERY original covid study employed 20-30x that number.pr2
    • If the scientific community continually had consensus it would be broken. Debate, peer review etc are cornerstones.BaskerviIle
    • https://www.fda.gov/…yuekit
    • Doesn't that say 4,600 participants? Or are you talking about a different study?yuekit
    • @pr2 - "The number of subjects usually ranges from several hundred to about 3,000 people. If the FDA agrees that the trial results are positive...Morning_star
    • ..., it will approve the experimental drug or device. A Phase IV trial for drugs or devices takes place after the FDA approves their use.Morning_star
    • It's weird that there are people who think the vaccines are going to kill you or something but that COVID itself is not dangerous.yuekit
    • The way the mRNA vaccines work is to have your body produce only the spike protein of the vaccine. It's not even a traditional vaccine where a deactivatedyuekit
    • version of the virus is injected. The mRNA and protein is quickly gone from your body.yuekit
    • So if you are scared of the vaccine you should be terrified of getting COVID-19 since it contains not only this spike protein but also the actual virus.yuekit
    • yuekit, if you jump out of the airplane once and live through it, do you jump again to let your body learn what that feels like? everyone in NYC had the virus..pr2
    • so why to force the vaccine if by now we know well documented serious reactive consequences? you won the Russian roulette one.pr2
    • nobody takes seriously papers with a few hundred participants, a few thousands can be takes seriously but it's those that have massive numbers that r definitivepr2

    • Is that enough people for you? Over 50% of the world population.yuekit

    • It's actually interesting, I don't know there was such vaccine as "Sputnik Light" or "COVIran Barekat."yuekit
    • We used to have the "National Enquirer" for fact-less curiosities, nowdays we have NYT.pr2
    • It's not a news story, just a page tracking how many people have been vaccinated worldwide.yuekit

Americans are somehow infecting deer with COVID-19...

"One-third of white-tailed deer in the north-eastern United States have antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 — a sign that they have been infected with the virus."

    https://www.nature.com/articles/…

"Up to 80 percent of deer sampled from April 2020 through January 2021 in the state were infected, the study indicated.

Scientists said the findings pose worrisome implications for the spread of the coronavirus, although they were not able to identify how the deer might have contracted the virus from humans..."

Italians adjusting down number of deaths caused by covid

"According to the new report (which had not been updated since July) from the Higher Institute of Health on mortality from Covid, the virus that brought the world to its knees would have killed far less than a common flu. It seems a bizarre and no vax statement, but according to the statistical sample of medical records collected by the institute, only 2.9% of the deaths registered since the end of February 2020 would be due to Covid 19. So of the 130,468 deaths registered by official statistics at the time of the preparation of the new report only 3,783 would be due to the power of the virus itself."

    • covid IS more dangerous than flu to 65+.
IS slightly more dangerous in 20-65. and IS LESS dangerous than flu in under 20.
