For me as an outsider, it seems like America is in a constant war with itself. A new mass shooting replaces the memory of the last. Fear that the politicians will remove access to weapons, so people buy more weapons. Fear that your neighbour or a random stranger will pull a weapon, so you better be ready at all times.
And it just keeps going and going.

Sometimes I wonder the extent to which the tedious nature of American life drives discontent in USA. It's not actually the case that there's this constant gun violence people overseas seem to imagine but there can be an oppressively mundane existence.
You go to work, you go home, watch some show on Netflix, browse the internet, order McDonalds, drive down to the local strip mall. Maybe on the weekend you go to TGI Fridays or something.
Moreso than in Europe or Asia life in the USA, particularly outside of the big cities, can feel extremely pointless and lacking any kind of culture.That's no excuse for violence but it's not difficult to imagine how people who may already have issues can go around the bend in this environment, particularly when you add in the predatory capitalist aspect.
People are searching for some kind of meaning and unfortunately the answer that's waiting for them are online forums populated by Nazis and other deranged ideologies, voting for politicians like Trump and fetishizing guns.
