OR
Tighten the knot on Dennis, explaining to him that we need to investigate that slot, promising him delicious eye crab treats if it leads to our freedom.
... then gently yeet him at the slot again

After pulling the twine from the pants, their structural integrity is compromised and the course fibre slump to the floor beneath you.
* You have got THIN TWINE
You stand in the darkness naked, then bend down to search the stone floor for cracks or crevices. Sadly, it appears to have no obvious openings or variations, just flat chiseled stone from wall to wall.
Still bathed in darkness, you hear something small skitter across the floor near the far wall to your left. Also, the dull muted light coming in from a crack on the wall to your right flickers as if someone or something just passed by it on the other side of the wall.

Dennis seems calm now that youve proven you were not trying to harm him.
*Rolls*
When you loosen your grip he doesn't try to get away.
*Rolls*
He remains calm as you unravel some of the twine from the fabric and tie it around him. Its difficult to get it around the smoothness of the shell so you tie it to one of his legs instead, but due to his size you know that yanking too hard on the twine would likely pop off his leg.
*Rolls*
You toss Dennis up at the crevice but he bounces off the edge and falls back to the ground. His eye shuts momentarily and the room goes dark, but his eye opens back up and he looks back up at you.
The bowl seems to have been used for food or something, upon smelling it, it seems fairly innocuous like it held some wet grains or rice at some point, leaving only dried remnants behind. You dont seem to feel very hungry at the moment.

I fashion a leash out of some of the rope and tie it to the lasercrab that I've bonded with and named Dennis.
Send Dennis on an exploratory mission into the crevice. Ponder the substance in the bowl, and the fact that I really don't want to fist the toilet hole.

Your tension eases slightly now that you can finally see. Your eyes take a second to adjust to the light as you aim the creature forwards and survey your surroundings. The light flickers as the creature blinks rapidly, but it generally keeps its eye open long enough for you to get a sense of where you are.
You stand at one side of a square-ish 'cell'. Stone walls rise up 12 feet on all 4 sides rise and join seamlessly with a stone ceiling. The floor connects as well on all sides save for the one wall with a large wooden door breaking the grey monotony. It's as if the room was carved out of a mountain.
Dried bloody streaks, stains and handprints cover the stone walls on all sides, and the floor is almost entirely darkened with blood and dirt.
In one corner is a small wooden bowl, completely empty but grimy with a dried sticky substance.
In the opposite corner of the cell is a hole big enough for a fist, the edges of it covered in feces.
The wooden door is as you imagined it. Large and impenetrable looking, but scratched to shit with no discernible pattern or intention. The scratches most heavily border the outer edges of the door and often the exposed splinters of wood appear soaked in blood which then smears on to the adjacent stone. At the very top of the door, beyond your reach you can see an opening about 3" tall by 12" wide, but no light comes through it. It appears like a shadowy rectangular crevice between the top of the door and the ceiling, as you cant get high enough to shine any light into its depths.

Dafuq!
Gawk in sheer amazement at the thing before stalking around the room using it as a torch. Search the room thoroughly now that we can see.

Biting down on the wooden shiv, you quickly tear the cloth in 2 and wrap both hands leaving your fingers exposed, but the majority of your hands protected.
You take a couple stealthy steps towards the doorway, keeping your eyes locked on the shadowed shape the entire time. Your heart is racing, and with adrenaline pumping, you hastily dive towards the door with the knife in your teeth and both hands outstretched to grab the.. thing...
Your body slams against the floor, reminding you of your pained and bruised-feeling muscles across your chest and legs, your hands close around the shadowy shape and you feel a smooth, creaseless shell vibrating profusely as tiny crab-like legs scratch at your wrists.
The scratching hurts, but quickly subdues as it seems the creature is getting tired of fighting your grip. It eventually calms down and through the ceramic-like shell you can feel a faint heart beat rapidly pounding against the flesh of your palms.
Your own heart rate begins to slow when suddenly a greenish light fills the room, originating from a large 2 inch glowing eyeball directly in the center of the creatures shell.
- fucked up a bit with the palms. forgive me :)mantrakid

There's enough cloth from your pants to wrap both hands, if you were to rip the cloth. For now you wrap it entirely around your left hand. With your right hand holding the shiv defensively, you turn in the darkness to face the direction you heard the skittering earlier.
Everything in front of you is completely black. With your hands armed and protected, you shuffle awkwardly in the darkness, feeling along the stone floor with your bare feet.
After a moment your shiv scrapes the wall and you hear the skittering again. This time it comes from nearby you, but quickly goes towards the crack of light at the bottom of the door.
Now there is a small break in the dim light, a shadowed form about the size of an apple sits in front of the door, waiting for your next move.

I think "God damn it I knew he was going to roll crustacean."
Give the shadowy crab a few apologetic pats on the back, and the light from the eye brightens the room. The light is beamline, and surprisingly hot to the touch.
Upon pointing it at the door, there's an immediate smell of burned wood. This might be a lasercrab.
- Haha so rad. But thats not your job u silly goose its allll mine. ;)mantrakid

If there’s time, quickly craft two hand wraps, equip, and...
ATTACK!
My intent is to try and capture the thing, but failing that will attempt its death or injury by shiv
- If we catch it, we make tools out of the corpse. Skittering implies bones.garbage
- Odd note for the DM: IRL scara saves injured birds. I've put them out of their misery and given them respectful shoebox funerals.garbage
- Yeah. But maybe it knows of an exit or becomes a useful companion?scarabin

Or...
Toss a loop of the string out in front of it and attempt to entice the thing to enter it. Then yank the string and try to snare it
- scarabin2
Start thinking about those scratches, wondering what made them and if i’m in any danger.
Shiv in right hand, turn to where i heard the noise earlier. Wrap pants cloth around left hand to protect it and investigate the area, looking for whatever made the sound
- scarabin1
Break off and take the splinter.
Push on the door. If it doesn’t budge, look for a catch to “pick” with the splinter, or a spot to insert it and pry the door open.
If there’s anything left of the splinter, wrap the twine around one end to craft a shiv

- fucking loved shadowgate + deja vu + uninvited. NES highlights for sure! <3mantrakid
- I still haven’t finished deja vu. Time to dig it out!scarabin
- mantrakid1
You break off the splinter and it comes off cleanly.
* GOT 7" SPLINTER
You try pushing on the door but it doesnt budge at all, it seems completely held in place by something on the other side.
Searching the door for a catch or opening to pry it open is also fruitless, and examining the crack along the bottom of the door its not thick enough to stick your smallest finger through. You try sticking the splinter through the crack but its too large to fully fit under the door.
You wrap the twine around the duller end of the splinter to create a handle and tie a knot to keep it in place. While you cant necessarily see it in the darkness, you feel you have crafted a decent weapon.
* GOT SHIV
- scarabin1
Investigate the crack on the right, looking for an exit, while straining to hear what’s on the other side.
If the crack does indeed indicate a door, attempt to open it slowly to try and get a peek at the adjoining area
- mantrakid3
Wearily, you push yourself up off the stone and sit upright. Your hands search your body and feel sand and dirt brushing off your naked arms and chest.
Desperately you try to recall how you got here or where 'here' even is, but your mind runs blank with blunted panic. Your head throbs in time with your quickening heart rate but upon feeling for wounds or trauma, you feel only your dry skin. You try to imagine yourself—to think of your name—but your mind comes up empty, which only adds to the building terror.
Your legs adjust along with your aching muscles and as your body weight shifts its centre of balance, you feel a fabric on your legs rustling against the ground. Upon closer inspection with your hands, it feels like a type of coarsely woven fibre is wrapped around your legs and waist—the seams stitched with thin strips of leather or twine.
Nothing else seems to be on or around these 'pants'.
- mantrakid2
You shout "Hello" but your voice comes out as a cracked cough. Your dry mouth chokes on the word and your gasp for air reverberates around you, telling you this room is not very big.
- garbage2
I unravel a bit of the pants and chew off a length of rope for later use. Apparently I pissed my pants and receive some hydration that is simultaneously appreciated and stomach-churning. I dig my hands underneath the stone.
