Throwing caution to the wind, you immediately set out to the left from the door, which is where the other two goblins had come from. You peek carefully around the corner to ensure it's safe and see the long hallway stretching out in front of you. Its simple stone walls are interrupted with a single door on either side of the hallway about half-way down, and there is another left turn at the end of it.

You still notice that there are no obvious sources for the dim orange light filling the hallway, and start to wonder if it is maybe some kind of magic or spell that has been cast, as the effect is just too surreal to be natural.

Seeing nothing of particular interest to the left, and fearing more Goblins may await in that direction, I decide to explore first what is to the right.

Before heading off to the right, I look down at lil' Dennis who seems to be antsy to walk on his own, and I tie his leash around my wrist. "Stick by me lil buddy," I whisper to him.

I unfold the folded cloth and wrap all of my inventory items up in it, so I can more easily carry them with one hand.

I shuffle off the other way, stepping lightly to avoid making any noises. Dennis walks just ahead of me, illuminating the floor and perhaps knowing better the lay of this dungeon. I peer around the corner before proceeding down the passageway to the right.

((unless there's some obvious danger or reason why I shouldn't, I say explore the area to the right and see what is there. if there are any other turns or doorways, I quietly and carefully peek check out the areas before going forward. lead on, DM!))

Examine left door. If it seems like a prison cell door, do the same to right door. If it also seems prison doory then make left down hall. If the right door is bot a cell door open it.

I pace back and forth, kicking both doors begging a reaction from either door. At this point I don't care, because Dennis and I are starved, bored, and determined.

You decide to head off to the right. Dennis sticks by you with his leash and peers along the floor warily looking for traps or dangers.

You unfold the cloth to a square of fabric about 5" x 5" and notice some markings that look like a very rough map of the outdoors. There's an arrow drawn on the bottom right corner which tells you which way is "north" and there's a large square near the top left corner, and a ton of trees surrounding it. Past the trees to the east there are a bunch of little squares that may represent a town, and to the south of the trees is a circle filled in with black, which may represent a hole or a large body of water.

The cloth isn't big enough to wrap all the items tightly (it just flops open again) but aside from the shiv, everything fits in one hand pretty easily.

After tucking your dick and balls into one of the gloves, you keep the other one on your hand that holds the shiv.

Quietly, you make your way to the end of the hallway after taking the right turn and you are faced with a single solid wooden door with a door handle and no apparent lock. You don't hear anything coming from behind the door but Dennis seems nervous.

  • garbage0

I tell Dennis to stay (he's a quick learner), put him on dim mode with the cloth, and arrange my things in the corner by the door.

I slide the coin underneath the door, then flatten myself against the wall in the darkness, shiv in hand.

  • scarabin2

Quietly try and crack the door a bit to take a peek inside.

If it doesn’t open, investigate what’s down the hall in the other direction

  • mantrakid0

you turn the door handle slowly & quietly in an effort to stealthily peek past the door. The door opens silently and as it does, the flat orange light from the hallway cuts through the crack and splits the darkness of the room in half. As the door opens wider, the band of light increases, washing over various desks and tables full of glassware full of different colored liquids. Shelves full of books line the walls and the smell of burning permeates the air that wafts out of the room.

It seems like youve come across a laboratory of some sort.

Dennis hides behind your leg, quivering.

Read the books to learn how to make drugs for the impending journey. Also note to self: stop playing with myself, and divert that nervous energy to consoling Dennis.

  • i_monk2

Close the door behind me and take Dennis over to the shelves to examine the books. Are they in Common?

  • sarahfailin0

I look around the laboratory to see what I can find-- I especially look for any clothes or weapons or tools that might be useful for me. What all is in this laboratory? Are there any other doors, windows or passageways? Are any of the potions labeled?

I definitely don't read any of the fucking books. I want to get the eff outta this dungeon, and more trolls could be coming at any moment!

I don't really trust the trolls in this primitive dungeon to have made anything worthwhile. But if there's a leather apron I can put on so that I have pockets and some kind of protection from attack, that'd be great. Maybe some water to drink...

You enter the laboratory and close the door quietly behind you. As the door closes, the dim orange light from the hallway narrows to a needle-thin strip then disappears completely leaving the room lit by the glow of Dennis' eyeball. Upon closer inspection it seems that a few of the glass beakers also give off a slight glow as well, but definitely not enough to provide an actual light source, but enough to see the liquid clearly in the dark.

Scanning the shelves full of books, you notice about half of them are in common tongue, the other half in a language you definitely dont recognize, but probably some type of goblin.

From the books you can read—and even the ones you cant make out the words on—they seem to be bestiaries. Large volumes full of drawings of various monsters and creatures, with detailed notes and charts surrounding the illustrations. Sometimes entire books are devoted to a single creature, othertimes, the books are as varied as the number of pages between the cover.

In all your scanning, you only see a few creatures you vaguely recognize, but the majority of the coverage is of lifeforms that are foreign to you.

  • grafician-7

But all of a sudden a DRAGON of all creatures enters the building.

Starts coughing fire - PLOT TWIST - as the dragon has covid!

Torches everything in sight including the player.

    Game over.

    [START AGAIN] [END CREDITS]

Check for other doors, then scan the tables for anything interesting.

  • garbage0

I tear off the cover of one of the books that I can't read and fancy a doorstop that I shove under the door, sealing it off behind me. Pet Dennis and inspect those potions; wafting not sniffing.

  • scarabin1

    From my rp enthusiast gf:

I take a deep breath to calm myself and regain focus from all the action I’ve experienced.

Taking another look around the room i try to locate a light and ignition source to help me inspect the room. I’m also on the lookout for something other than a poopy splinter to defend myself.

I shuffle through some more books to see if i can find out more about Dennis’s species.

I give Dennis a hug, scratch under his skin and say ‘Who’s a good boy? You are! You’re a good boy sweetie lil sweetie pie!’

Inspecting the various desks and tables you cant seem to find a lantern or candle which is odd considering how dark the room would be without Dennis' eye-glow bathing the room in the greenish light. You continue your search through the books and notice on one of the desks behind some glass flasks, there is one laying wide open.

You walk over to the open book, holding Dennis and comforting his still quivering body. Directly on the open pages of the book is an illustration of a creature that looks exactly like Dennis, you scan the adjacent page. Written in a simple script in common you are astonished to see that it appears to be a thorough description of your crab-like friend.

    ---

The Cycrab is an incredibly rare creature found in the seaside region of Twar. Its smooth, thick, crustacean-like shell protects a paradoxically complex biology including a heart, brain and central nervous system.

One of the most peculiar features of this unusual creature is the large eye ball found embedded directly in the center of its hard shell. Stranger still is that the creature initially appears to not have any other source of processing sustenance for survival. Through vast experimentation it has been discovered that it gains nourishment from light sources entering its cornea.

The Cycrab can live up to 100 years of age, with the average age being approximately 87 years old. While the newborns are quite small—roughly 6-10 ropknots in diameter on average—adult Cycrabs can grow to an incredible size, some reaching as large as a young elephorg.

There is much to learn in regards to a Cycrab’s physiology and intelligence. They appear to be a highly empathetic, hyper-aware creature. There may be some links to its usage of light as nourishment that could mean they have an instinctual grasp on light-based biological telemetry.

    ---

You look up from the book and at your new one-eyed friend & it blinks at you innocently, the room flickers as its eye closes for that fraction of an instant.
