OTTAWA, March 8 (Reuters) - Canada's MDA Inc is providing real-time satellite imagery to Ukraine to support its fight against the Russian invasion, Chief Executive Officer Mike Greenley said on Tuesday.
"It's all about... doing the right thing and giving Ukraine the support that they need," Greenley said in a Zoom interview.

Russia is likely to face “a persistent and significant insurgency” after President Vladimir Putin misjudged how the war against Ukraine would proceed but the Russian leader won’t be deterred and may try to change how he defines victory, the top U.S. spy chief said.
“We judge it will be especially challenging for the Russians to hold and control Ukrainian territory and install a sustainable pro-Russian regime in Kyiv,” Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines told the House Intelligence Committee Tuesday during an annual hearing on global threats.

Only 3 excerpts from the Romanian press:
1. "Some of the refugees accuse that they had to bribe Ukrainian customs officials to cross into our country:
"They are very happy that they have arrived in a safe territory, unfortunately they have a lot of problems at their customs. Corruption in Ukraine is also rife there and I have even met cases where people had to pay a lot of money at customs to get their children across the border, even as much as €2,000 for one child."" - https://cutt.ly/tATWXyu
---
2. "More and more drivers from Iassy (Iasi) have seen with their eyes Ukrainian border guards asking for bribes from women with children in their arms who intend to enter Romania.
The day before yesterday, a driver who left Iasi to go to Turkey told us by phone that the Ukrainian policemen were asking for bribes.
"There are Turkish students returning home in the bus. On Sunday noon at Siret Customs, on the Ukrainian side, the border guards asked the Ostruders for 100 euros each. They are very keen on making money," the coach driver told us." - https://cutt.ly/MATRghF
---
3. "Since 25 February, Ukrainian men aged between 18 and 60 have not been allowed to leave the country and have been forced to fight in the war. President Zelenski has ordered a general military mobilisation and the Ukrainian state has issued weapons to civilians.
However, men are still leaving Ukraine at border crossings to Romania, either alone or with their families. One explanation is that many of them are of other nationalities and hold citizenship other than Ukrainian, in which case they are allowed to leave the war zone. Another explanation is that Ukrainian customs officers take bribes from those who want to leave. According to some sources, the bribe was initially €200-400, and has now reached €2000. The tragedy is for the poor, but also for the very young, who at 18-19 years of age have been forced to stay in the hustle and bustle of war." - https://cutt.ly/sATTnFK- lol only one article mentions "border guards" or anything that has authority to let people pass.

U.S. will ban Russian oil imports in response to Putin’s invasion of Ukraine
- Continuity0
Meanwhile — despite sanctions — Europe is still giving Putin wads of cash on a daily basis to fund his little war. Fucking hell.
'European oil receipts boosting Putin’s war chest by $285m a day, study finds'

U.K. Plans to Ban Russian Oil Imports in New Sanctions Move
- Continuity0
I'm already getting doomscrolling fatigue (again), so I haven't bothered to look this up, but ...
The US is an oil and gas-producing country. Why would it even bother importing the Russian stuff?
And just how much can the US possibly import that banning it would even make a shred of difference to the Russian economy?
- Can't keep up with demanddbloc
- But the US is a net exporter.Continuity
- It was only 2% and I read in an article why they were importing from Russia but forgot.NBQ00

CIA says 2,000-4,000 Russian troops killed
Between 2,000 and 4,000 Russian troops have been killed in the invasion of Ukraine, the head of the CIA, William Burns, has said, Reuters reports. The veteran diplomat, a former US ambassador to Moscow, also said the US had done “intensive intelligence sharing” with Ukraine, including details of Russian military planning and continued to do so daily.
Vladimir Putin was unlikely to back down, Burns said, but neither did the CIA see how the Russian president could accomplish his goal of taking Kyiv and replacing President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s government with a pro-Moscow or puppet leadership.
The CIA estimate of the Russian death toll goes far beyond the figure of nearly 500 killed in action given by the Russian defence ministry six days ago.
Burns said:
I think Putin is angry and frustrated right now. He’s likely to double down and try to grind down the Ukrainian military with no regard for civilian casualties. I fail to see how he can produce that kind of an end game and where that leads, I think, is for an ugly next few weeks in which he doubles down ... with scant regard for civilian casualties.
He was speaking at a House of Representatives intelligence committee hearing alongside other intelligence officials.

McDonald's is shutting down in Russia (temporary move)... that equates to about 9% of their total world revenue (80+% of the stores in Russia / Ukraine are Corpo owned)... huge move for any company given the size of their worldwide losses.
I'm curious as to what other companies that are pulling out were making in that market and what effect it has on their worldwide profits (which effect other markets / stockholders etc).

Polish MFA: "The authorities of Poland are ready to deploy –immediately and free of charge – all their MIG-29 jets to the Rammstein Air Base and place them at the disposal of the USA At the same Poland requests U.S. to provide us with used aircraft with corresponding operational capabilities"

- Wait, but I read the MiG’s are going to Ukraine.NBQ00
- https://twitter.com/…NBQ00

- Ok so Poland can’t deliver them directly to Ukraine. Most likely the US has to find a loophole to deliver those to Ukraine.NBQ00
- How many fighter jets are they giving away?utopian
- It looks like 20 to 30NBQ00
- I think it's a translation glitch. Poland will give Ukraine their old Mig-29's and the USA will give Poland F-16s which was part of their NATO modernization.jonny_quest_lives
- let me explain. Poland has 50 F16 jets and 30 modernized Mig29. for their Migs then want another way to defend.pr2
- read: for their Migs, they want F16s or similar.pr2
- problem: most of those Migs were made to work with NATO gear so they r useless for Ukraine. Only around 10 will be useful.pr2
- it's actually a very smart move on part of Poland because Poland has really shity anti-rockets defenses so Putin's army could destroy those planes.pr2
- Even 10 of those + US intel = very effective way to help out defending Kyivgrafician
- @pr2 i was reading that they are shipping them into germany for "conversion".sted
