You can tell Russians are uncomfortable speaking about politics and it could be because they live in a totalitarian state.

From this video they seem like sensible and reserved people

    • 15 years in a nasty prison for saying anything considered against the state... no shit they seem nervous.shapesalad
    • much like venezuela, you can tell Putin has no support but the population is powerless to do anything about it. Democracies are a very fragile thing.hotroddy

    • I wonder if those 172 planes were any aircraft or actual fighters. If it's the latter, that alone carries an enormous pricetag.MondoMorphic
    • ...and to lose 829 tanks. Damn.MondoMorphic
    • read somewhere around twitter that they had around 1000-1500 tanks for this campaign and 2000-3000 total in the army in still working condition, so yeahgrafician
    • re: the planes, yes many were fighters and some were blown up on the runwaysgrafician
    • if I remember correctly, the UA blew like half a dozen or so on the runway in one attack, then the Russians added more and those were blown too next!grafician
    • and the best thing, they can't make anymore tanks and planes, those require imported parts from the West and with sanctions, Russia ain't getting shit evergrafician

We're not going to get the result we were hoping for here, I'm beginning to increasingly believe.

Stop the world, I want to get off.

    • Have you seen Pootin in the latest video holding the table? How much more can he handle?grafician
    • I'm not sure that's a particularly positive hope, in this context.Nairn
    • War would end the minute he goes offline...grafician
    • nah... West + East Europe can't allow Putin to win over Ukraine. We'll supply as much as we can to Ukraine to stave off Putin.shapesalad
    • We just need to deplete the Russia cannon fodder, and their heavy equipment.shapesalad
    • And remove their leverage point of gas/oil/potash.shapesalad
    • For me its the exact opposite -- I have a good feeling. Things will collapse with a clap, faster than you would ever expectdrgs

boggles my mind how horny americans are / continue to be for war. but this is great,

"As the war between Russia and Ukraine nears 60 days of fighting, with no signs of a ceasefire and Russian troops continuing to bombard key Ukrainian cities, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has informed the World Bank forum that Ukraine needs $7 billion (over Rs 53,423 crore) a month to function amid the devastating "economic losses" caused due to the military offensive ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24.

Zelenskyy's comments come after US President Joe Biden on Thursday announced that the US would provide $500 million in direct economic assistance to Ukraine. While addressing the leaders of the World Bank and IMF via virtual conference, Zelenskyy stated that Russian forces are aimed at destroying all objects in Ukraine that can serve as an economic base for life."

    https://ukrainecrisis.org/200228…

$500m cash on top of $800m in weapons to a non-nato member with far-right political affiliations for a war caused by nato.

sure putin is a motherfucker but people in the us would go into hysterics if china started setting up alliances a military bases with south american countries we've coup'd in the past. this all reeks of people wanting some kind of revenge for not understanding why 2016 went to trump and still blame russia for it.

    • Honestly, I haven't spoken to one American that is for the war, and or wants to continue the war...this includes both my Ukrainian and Russian friends.utopian
    • “War caused by nato” oh no here comes the Putin-understanders that use the NATO membership expansion as an excuse.NBQ00
    • “With far right political affiliations” Please dude why do you post this BS? Straight from pro-RU propaganda that states all Ukraine is fascist and nazis?NBQ00
    • And nobody is really for this war unless you’re a war-monger but I also don’t want Russia to get away with this and all their war crimes.NBQ00
    • Russia is the side that is more aligned with the far right and exporting fascism around the world.yuekit

    • And as far as why the war happened, Russia has said many times they don't regard Ukraine as a real country. What does that have to do with USA or NATO?yuekit
  • NBQ003

I can’t believe that so many cunts still believe the NATO membership expansion was a threat to Russia and therefore it had to attack Ukraine.

As if it all matters how close to a countries border you get in the age of nuclear weapons and Russia has thousands of them.

Let’s say Finland was already a NATO member and since it’s right at RU border it could attack Russia. Sure it could try but Russia would immediately send nuclear warheads flying and it would be suicide for Finland or any other NATO member.

The reason why all these post-Soviet countries wanted to be in NATO and now Scandinavians too is exactly to avoid being attacked by Russia like Ukraine is experiencing now.

Because Russia knows they can’t do on NATO members.

So fuck off with these articles using excuse of “NATO encirclement”.

    • Exactly, "NATO expansion" consists of countries that suffered under USSR, in some cases victims of genocide like Ukraine, voluntarily choosing to joinyuekit
    • NATO because they noticed Russia is still ruled by an insane dictator. Russia tried to set up its own security bloc which nobody wanted to join.yuekit
    • When you are unpopular and nobody wants part of your system, logical outcome is that you may feel "surrounded" or "encircled."yuekit
    • https://www.theguard…gonzalle
    • the most important argument against NATO expansion is, who want's to follow the US or GB nowadays. both can't get a decent leader into power for years now.uan
    • now that stupid guy in russia did those western powers a tremendous favour. fucked up really.uan

Russian General Lets Slip a Secret Plan to Invade Moldova: https://www.thedailybeast.com/ru…

The Russian military now says the official plan is to create a land corridor all the way along Ukraine’s coast to Moldova, where another border is under threat.

    • of course. Moldova, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania are very much next. Hence we need to send drones, nlaws, missile systems etc to Ukraine asap.shapesalad
    • west need to arm ukraine army to the teeth. this will stave off Putin. May force a russian small nuke. But its game over from there.shapesalad
    • we are witnessing Putins swan song, the end of Russia, and sadly the death, trauma, rape and hell of a good few 100k+ of humans.shapesalad

I've got some slow jobs on today, so I've had this on randomly in the background, and it's quite a sensible, sober and not particularly gung-ho armchair general appraisal of the comparisons between Ru and Ukr spending on weapons in the current theatre.
