Is it likely that a lot of the reports about slow computers after updating would be related to the caching and indexing? I find it odd that a minority report a slower experience after updating, while the vast majority report an increase.
- Can't speak for others, but it's the first time I've ever upgraded, as opposed to done a fresh installtwooh
- which I think plays a huge factor in speed when first operating it.twooh
- Indeed indexing and re-caching can take hours if you've got a ton of files. I do so I install and leave overnight.evilpeacock

I've got to say, after a day of hating on it, it's growing on me, and it actually feels faster now after it finishes caching, and indexing. Very impressive.

the fucking itunes cover art screensaver now doesn't exit when you move your mouse. it instead asks you if you want to play one of hte records on the screen.
what sort of useless bullshit is that. when i move my mouse, i want the screensaver to go away. not to go down and have to find an "exit" button. christ on skates.
- What the fuck is a screensaver?nb
- I can't believe Apple has RUINED the screensaver feature. This is certainly the downfall of Apple.nb
- This would never have happened if Steve were still alive.nb
- My Zune has had this feature for years, fanboyshereswhatidid

The tinfoil hat on top of my head tells me Maverick was built to be free from monetary cost but with the price (and intent) of cutting down on the hackintosh crowd.
Anyone know the difficulty there in getting it running?
Tinfoil reasoning:
Workstations in general are on the downslope.
Mobile workstations, notebooks, on the uprise. But Apples mb/mbp's are successively getting harder to upgrade.
The possibility of aftermarket RAM upgrades are going away,
so are drives. With a "free" OS, that can't run (nor be coixed into running (i.e. hackintosh)) on PC notebooks, you've only one option: mbs.
...And since those are made harder to upgrade with aftermarket parts, you would be forced to pick a new one in intervals. A forced subscription in a sense.
Not just mbps/notebooks if Maverick was made to tackle hackintosh stations, of course, regular "traditional" workstations too. But it seem like a calculated move. And if not now, then probably later with next iteration of OSX.

No issues on my two machines. The oldest is a late 08 MBP with 4GB RAM.
Every app seems to be working fine.

Menu bars at the top of both screens now

is the OS to blame for the annoying as fuck "scroll past the bottom of the page and it bounces back a little bit instead of just ending" bullshit? it's noticeably aggravating in browsing / mail / chat but i haven't seen it affect CS5.
chrome is incredibly slow comparatively. simply highlighting a menu item in the bookmarks bar is laggy. oof

i upgraded from 10.6.8 and this is distractingly terrible
slows the machine down for sure (2 yr old 27" imac)

Runs fine for me but I'm also not convinced this actually is a new OS. I think they just added the tags and tabbed finder window (which is useful) and then went surfing the rest of the summer.

- it's a small upgrade... from what... 10.8.5 to 10.9monospaced

Installed it last night and already encountering a ton of problems already. I have a 2008 MacBook Pro, and it made it way too slow for me to operate. Furthermore if you run any NTFS tools for external drives, or Bootcamp, you can forget about accessing them for now.
- Bootcamp doesnt work?ESKEMA
- thanks for the update, I won't upgrade until I know bootcamp worksmonospaced
- Not sure if Bootcamp doesn't work. I just can't access my Bootcamp drive, or any other NTFS drive for that matter, while in OS Xtwooh
- I'm in OS Xtwooh
- NTFS has been read-only for years. You've always had to use a 3rd Party app to write.monospaced
- well reboot and try it man!! I need to know!!!1!11ESKEMA
- You may need more RAM. 2Gs is minimum, but 4Gs will run it more smoothly.wagshaft
- monospaced, not with "NTFS-3G", and "NTFS for Mac OS X". Those allow read/writetwooh
- You're an idiot if you updated and use ktexts extensivelyanimatedgif
- I got a late 2008 one also and its working good so far.Bullitt
