"Is it safe to update now? Problems with Adobe CS5/CS6/CC or else?"
MekkOK you slags - 5 months since the last serious comment, so what's the shizzle now?
Using Macbook Pro 2010 (Started saving for one in 2000)
- Got the same machine, get a SSD and RAM and feels like new.ArmandoEstrada
- Yeah already supped up ram to 8GB, What SSD did you get?citizen_h
- Corsair Force GT. this was like 3 years ago, I paid an arm and leg for 256 Ggigs. I hear the Samsungs ones are some of the better ones.ArmandoEstrada
- ...better ones. I also stripped out the DVD burner and put the old drive in there with adapter.ArmandoEstrada

I don't have any issues whatsoever. Just needed to install Java in the beginning.

made the mistake of updating the wife's macbook pro. oh dear... runs slow as hell, looks like shit. and it's dropped off the wifi network. why did i bother?
hopefully dropping £280+ on more ram and ssd will make it better. so much for a free upgrade...
- zero problems here. There is a simple fix for the wifi issue - but should be fixed in later versions anywayfadein11
- That's crazy. How old is this machine?monospaced
- 2012. but the fuckers put a 5400rpm hd in it to be able to pay your dividend. the ssd has transformed it and it now runs nice and fast.hans_glib

my work machine (2011) is fast and smooth as fuck. No problems yet (2 weeks in).
Adobe CC 2014 running perfect, didn't need to install Java or anything. (i didn't upgrade, I made a clean install)
Other work machines (2010 and weaker than mine) are also fine...

Yosemite is pants at running a second screen that has different resolution to an iMac. In CC, menus on the second screen are unusable unless the displays are aligned to the bottom in System/Displays/Arrangement. There's a lot of forum grumpiness on this too.
- Weird no issues with two side aligned displays here.monospaced

How do I get rid of these annoying unfinished download icons at the top right of my Safari window? (which BTW they actually finished downloading just fine. I don't know why they're indicated as unfinished). I checked everywhere for where the files might be, including the downloads folder... nothing.
Before there was a "clear downloads" button. Now they seem to have gotten rid of that. And also a Downloads window, which is gone too.
Hating Yosemite. Everything is getting worse and more Windows like.
- Thanks btw to whoever answers. Please help. I Googled and couldn't find the answer.iCanHazQBN
- I only get one of those and a dropdown if there's multiple DL's...I know there's an update to Safari but haven't done that yetfyoucher1
- easy on the pornfourth
- iCanHazQBN-2
- Doesn't look like that for mefyoucher1
- yeah, what fucking part of OSX is this? oh... wait, it's notmonospaced
- Huh mono? It's Safari.iCanHazQBN
- and Safari on a Mac, not PC.iCanHazQBN
- That looks nothing like the Safari browser, and you know it.monospaced
- Sorry you have so many weird glitches. Safari has a really amazing type renderer actually.monospaced
- System Prefs > General > Use dark menu bar and dockiCanHazQBN
- Sure, but that doesn't affect the Safari window. That screenshot isn't Safari, it's a website right?monospaced
- That is the Help menu at the very top menu bar while in Safari. Click and you'll see the same menu.iCanHazQBN
- I see... never clicked that before in my life.monospaced
- iCanHazQBN0
- so weird you see that... it's totally smooth and round on my screenmonospaced
- Also, Dell didn't make consumer products besides OEM PCs and some hardware, so it's not a fair comparison to Apple who does.monospaced
- not seeing that at all either...weird....exador1
- are you using a dell monitor perhaps?JG_LB
- Weird. Are you guys on retina or something? I'm just using a Macbook Air. Some things here don't look very nice.iCanHazQBN
- Nah, no retina.monospaced

Tired of updating OS'es. I update when there's a need to. Which is when my current OS stops getting updates. Updated from Snow Leopard to Mavericks a few montha ago. No plans on updating until Mavericks stops being supported.
New OS usually involves various hassles with unsupported software, plus machine runs slower because of increased load on the hardware.
Rarely worth it.
- Yes, but it's worth considering that an older OS might have security vulnerabilities. A minor concern, but still..... Also, I find that with OSX each version has made my computer run faster, not slower. At least since Leopard.nb
- The older versions shouldn't be more vulnerable, as long as they keep getting security updates?jagara
- The security updates aren't necessarily 100% secure. It's reasonable that Apple would spend less on security for older versions when they want you to upgrade.nb

Fantastic. I just change the system font. Drag the ttc font file to your font library. So easy.
- Messing around with any of Apple settings is like playing with a house of cards. I'm afraid to change any of the Apple settings.organicgrid
- Nah dude. This is simple, no fuss stuff. Doesn't affect anything. It's just a font file. You don't even have to delete or modify the Helvetica file or anything. Just drag the Fira.ttc file into Library > Fonts. Then logout and log back in.iCanHazQBN
- Fira looks like a sturdy system font. I'm loving it. Helvetica is more for text copy, like paragraphs of text.iCanHazQBN
- Just watch out that modal dialogs that require a password will display in gibberish. Not too big a deal though.Nathan_Adams
- You spend a lot of time complaining about os x, then post about changing the system font for the lolz. Ok.inteliboy
- Um, I changed the system font because it wasn't rendering properly for me. Among other display issues. How is doing that considered for "lolz"?iCanHazQBN
- And why can't people complain about the OS? Why is it assumed that everything Apple puts out is perfect? Even laymen designers can find obvious faults in the interface. Apple designers are not gods. They certainly have gotten lazier though.iCanHazQBN
- Have they? Selective memory I say.inteliboy
- iCanHazQBN-2
- Suddenly looks more like Windows for some reason.monospaced
- Ew.nb
- It actually reminds me of old Nokia interfaces ...jagara
