maybe they want to see how you use your creative thinking in their work atmosphere and how you vibe with their direction.

Well, at least they're interested. I think they'll be testing you on how you think on your feet in terms of ideas and quick execution. Did you get the feeling their projects were all rush jobs?
What is the work like?

UPDATE!
So I got the job offer which is great! However, I was just contacted by another ad agency interested in bringing me on-board. It is not a done deal of course, but this other agency has more diversify projects as oppose to the other where mostly is for financial institutions. I will be having a talk this afternoon with the new agency to know more about the job which is for an Art Director position and keep you updated.
I need to get back with an answer by tomorrow accepting or rejecting the job offer.
- Nice work Hektor! great news.capn_ron
- An 'agency' that just works with financial institutions? how boring.omahadesigns

maybe they meant twerking interview? they wanna see how you twerk it...
nah jk i've done this before but it's always been paid. so if they don't want to pay you then consider it a warning sign as to how you'll be treated as an employee
- I will check with them if this is a paidhektor911

seems like a legit request if it is a smaller joint. is this a paid working interview?

@ CyBrainX
They are part of a holding company that owns other agencies. This particular one deals mostly with financial institutions and they are looking to freshen up their projects and are looking to bring on people with different ideas which is why I was brought in. I'm not sure yet whats the process of getting things done, but from the little they shared with me it seems pretty straight forward.

Good to hear. Looks like you're on your way there :)
I remember one time during an interview while I was in College, this guy asked me to give my opinion on some work they had done. "Kerning need help, fonts are not working, imagery feels a bit old, a grid might help clean up...."
Didn't get the job.

Is not going to be paid, they said it is a very minimal collaboration I can even take my part home and work on it and then presented to the team.
They also want me to meet with the chairman & creative director for a quick chat.
- uhhhh... so it's straight up work!?monospaced
- Yeah, I'm meeting them tomorrow I'll know what the work is about.hektor911
- I dno't like the sound of that.monospaced

They probably want to make sure you're not an asshole and that you can relate/collaborate/take orders from others. And that you can actually do what your book/site shows. Believe me, I've seen 'designers' with portfolios full of tutorial projects, and when it's time to work, they have no idea how to work PS.
Is this the only option you have in terms of work?

Basically, this is a design exercise.
- ernexbcn0
Don't work for free disguised as "test".
- usually its a generic exercise that is not tied to a client2002
- if that's the case I guess it's ok, but you are still investing time on it...ernexbcn
- yeah its shit but they are also investing time to interview the candidate2002
- in Spain lots of companies do these "tests" with real work, fucking assholesernexbcn
- thats bs and you get bs work2002

Problem with design exercises:
- you are not 100% devoted to it and result is not always ideal
- they want exact or better execution against your portfolio
- working in isolation with out proper feedback and brief leads to off the mark execution
- they have an execution in mind but wont tell and will deduct points when you are off
- when you hire someone, you hire for their potential and not their current ability

Noice! It always happens. Just when you think you got it... another offer comes in. And it's a good problem to have.
Financial institutions may be a bit boring, but they are stable, and pay more than regular clients. Agencies with too many projects and clients tend to lose accounts (and team).
Good luck dude! And choose wisely.

pretty good for 'senior designer' amiright?
