Some business journal wrote they called it 10 because they want to keep up with Mac OSX. Sometimes I want to kill people.

You know what? Fuck Microsoft.
I've defended them for years now, especially with the ascension of Apple, but really - Microsoft can go fuck themselves now.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/201…
I've already deleted the Windows 10 download THREE FUCKING TIMES now, despite twice setting up a bar on automatic downloads, etc - doesn't sound like a big issue, but my boot drive is a 64Gb SSD, so doesn't have a lot of spare room (I only use it for Windows and fucking rip-off Adobe CC suite).
Come on, Linux - get your shit together, I want off this boat.

no! they called it 10 for the most bizarre reason.
the thing is that there is a bunch of softwares that try to recognize which windows they're running on, and most codes use a condition searching for the string "Windows 9*" so it caches windows 95 thru 98
to avoid that to recognize the new windows as a 95 version, they skipped a number.
that's what I've read online

I've finally found a version of Windows 10 I'd be happy to have - no default onedrive tie-in as well as fully manageable telemetry and updates! It's the version we've all been waiting for!
...wait, it's a version especially tailored to appease an autocratic government?

- "Time
Day
Date."shapesalad - Time date lower right looks a mess. No designer could work on such an osx without being distracted to insanity with that.shapesalad
- And don't get me started on that arrow in a box over the app icon and contrast turned to 11 text for 'recycle bin' etc. What an eye sore mess.shapesalad
- fuck i could never go back to PC...shapesalad
- Better or worse compared to win 10?drgs
- I like it.
Also, I believe you can resize the task bar and format date/time to one line like on previous versions.SteveJobs - if we can change the colors and make it all dark, i think it can look very niceBennn
- It's crazy that a company this big can't get a basic UI sorted. It's embarrassing.slappy
- Vom. That navbar on top of the window has been the same since 1998. The window arrangement component, really? Bottom bar with icons, macOS much? Damn..maquito
- The pin icon! Fucking hell... why.maquito
- Wow Apple is so ahead with all their OS's UI/UX design.NBQ00
- It’s like macOS had an affair with Confluence while playing solitaire.maquito
- Wtf is going on with the margins?!scruffics
- it feels like a chinese ripoff from MacOSmilfhunter
- So clicky. Meh.monospaced
- That fucking tool bar holy fuck.monospaced
- time machine backups?api
- Windows is the titsbabydick
- Windows 10 is nice. I like it, aesthetically, much better than anything I've seen. Rounded corners, that's a NO WAY for me. Ugly and dumb.formed
- There better be an easy way to turn that off. There is zero purpose for rounded corners, anywhere, on anything, it always looks childish and unprofessional.formed
- Such a messBaskerviIle
- Innovation never sleeps, eh?ideaist
- they're so close to macOS from a few years ago, just a couple versions away and they'll get theremonospaced

What's a grid?
...This kills me that this kind of mess not only gets created but that it actually gets through rounds and rounds of meetings, critiques, testing etc and sees the light of day. Just, how?
No intelligent use of subtle tones to denote different spaces, just white on white. A crazy mix of left-aligned and centred type. Odd alignments with icons. Nasty approach to tabs. Pin icons littered everywhere. Text still rendered horribly on windows. How hard can it be to clean up?- MS is in the "good enough" business, not the design businessgrafician
- Surely that's all customisable though?inteliboy
- they've decided they don't ever want Mac users to migrateMrT
- It's not done yet. Having said that, it's MS so half of the design will be unifinished/not fit together.kalkal
- Designers gotta design.
Funny, on another forum, I see so many techies ridiculing designers pointless focus on irrelevancies *shrug*Nairn - Always been a catch 22 for Microsoft, they need to maintain compatibility for legacy apps, but to really improve, they'd need a total rewritekalkal
- Type is still absolute shit. Icons still horsey and ugly and outdated. Really, a huge delete drop down menu? Jesus fuck it’s bad. Innovation I guess.monospaced
- They're totally redesigning file explorer, there has been a brief couple of shots in another promo vid, looks nothing like thiskalkal

- Although I appreciate the integration between OS and hardware with Macs, they aren't strictly coupled together so using Windows 11 to suggest Macs will...kalkal
- outperform PCs long term is a fallacy. I'm not saying it won't happen, it's just insufficient and irrelevant information. I really like Macs saying that.kalkal
- I wouldn't suggest you get your tech news from a youtuber who only reports on Applekalkal
- Currently the M1 Mac only outperforms Windows machines on comparable PC ARM architecture. It’s embarrassing but temporary for suremonospaced
- Who uses ARM on PC currently? Lol! Granted M1 is impressive and will improve, so will the PC hardware spacekalkal
- ^ agreed. comparing ARM PC to M1 Mac seem unfair, considering most use x86 PC's.inteliboy
- It's exciting. Competition is good for all.formed
- lol, the entire pc world is trying ARM. Even Intelmonospaced
- X86 isn’t efficient enough and is falling behind too fast. Right now the arm stuff apple is doing is the only way to keep getting smaller and faster moving forwmonospaced
- So naturally it will become a huge part of Windows. And Windows just released ARM editions.monospaced

- I like dark mode a lot more. Start button constantly moving would be annoying AF but I do like the app icons in the middle. You can revert to the left align butkalkal
- a mix would be bestkalkal
- http://4.bp.blogspot…GuyFawkes
- The start button on your keyboard never moves, this keeps the icons in a more accessible area.zarkonite
- Right clicking start isn't accessible from the keyboard thoughkalkal
- I guess you'll be glad to know the alignment is a taskbar setting, you can have it left or centered.zarkonite
- See my first note again ;)kalkal
- LOL nevermind, I should stop doing this while high =)zarkonite

RE:TPM requirement
Technically you need a TPM, but turns out most recent Intel and AMD chips have a virtual TPM integrated that's good enough so there is probably no need to buy a TPM chip (although that's just $20 and does keep your data secure)
"If you didn't get one of the few TPM modules available yesterday, don't panic—you almost certainly didn't need one. OEM hardware TPM is generally considered the most hardened version, and it's soldered directly to the board in PCs intended for enterprise use. Less-hardened firmware TPM support is built right into modern AMD and Intel processors, and that will satisfy Windows 11's TPM requirement just fine."
- but if the system requirement checker says "no" then buy a $20 tpm module for your mobotrooperbill
- I've seen super techy people proclaim that people will leave Windows in droves due to this.formed
- I don't see a single person leaving nor do I see MS making it a challenge. What I do see is super techy people spreading rumors/clickbait.formed
- Thanks for posting, now I can share with said super techy people. :-)formed
