I had great news from my direct Manager and Senior Director (design), (who happens to be a ery good friend of mine), Re: relocation from UY to SP (Barcelona).

Currently taking care of all the legal shit required to sign a floor contract, social security, DNI, and a shit ton of contracts and stuff.

Really excited to see how does this all turn out.

Not able to count sober days yet, but this message is all I was waiting for :)

Se you in Barcelona next year, folks!!

What a night of horror, but I still "breathe."

A shower, work a little, some shopping and I'm going to have some wine with friends.

Whatever I caught, I won't go down without a fight, lol.

    Pfffft

Bought a new (not brand new) car. Picked it up this weekend. It was immaulate.

Decided to go for a cheeky run out in it this evening despite the ice. So excited, I rolled off the drive despite zero visibility due to iced up windows. A moment of insanity.

Scuffed an immaculate rim on a kerbstone just at the end of the driveway. Instant regret.

It's only small, but equally it's absolutely massive.

I now have to keep going to look at it with my torch, as though looking at it might heal it. It doesn't but after 20 minutes of thinking about it becomes an absolutely destroyed wheel, and looking at it is necessary to remember that actually it's not so bad.

Except it wasn' there at all prior to me driving my car with absolutely no view outside. Why? Why did I do that?

I find this age and this stage of life is one where this kind of thing is constantly anticipated. Sensible steps, precautionary measures are taken. It's one of the key signs of aging I think that wisdom manifests as slowness and caution; avoiding silly mistakes made in the past.

Then every once in a while carefree youthful carelessness revives and in the most stupid and pointless ways, a price is paid for youthful exuberance.

I'm off outside with my torch again now, to put this disaster back into perspective for the tenth time tonight.

Nairn's blog about a quarter of a century of QBN has given me a touch of the melancholy.

We're (broadly, some of us) the only generation that knew and operated in a world before the www, before groups, before forums, before social media, before digital on demand. We've experienced the entire arc from zero to the peak and now down the other side.

The amount of change in that time is phenomenal. I started off using whatever Yahoo Groups was before it became Yahoo Groups. I'd guess that was 1997.

Now I think even the big powerful social media brands/platforms are slowly losing cultural relevance. They're still huge, still being used by very large numbers of people... but what they can do is limited by what they are and we all get tired of the media eventually. They aren't inherently exciting anymore. We know what we're going to get.

There was a time when it was all so fascinating that I was in danger of losing purchase on real world obligations due to a constant burning desire to be exploring the vast possibility of online living and the new experiment in communication and discovery. All via dial-up for a very long time, and that added to the sense of adventure. The sound of jacking in to the alterverse and the fact it took time to get there. Transportative, if such a word exists.

Now I genuinely struggle to find anything to hold my interest online. The thousands of weird, kooky, idiosyncratic websites, platforms, gatherings, experiments got funnelled into global brand platforms with nothing thrilling to offer. There is no internet anymore.

I pick my phone up, flick on to Reddit, flick over to QBN daily, and flick onto a few news platforms, and that's it. I'm done.

Even with QBN it now feels like it could be winding down. No fresh intake, just a dwindling circle of stalwarts who often don't even seem to enjoy each other's company.

And me watching silently through a window, but with less enthusiasm with each passing day.

ENTERTAIN ME, OR LOSE MY PATRONAGE FOREVER.

    • You have to wonder who will post the final post here before it's abandoned to an indifferent silence or it's taken offline by a disinterested caretaker.Horp

Some of you probably have a friend like mine...

    a real starving artist
    shit constantly hitting the fan
won't hold a normal paying job
gets hit by cars on his bike

He likes to work on very large pieces, and now wants to put them on shirts.

Question. What is the easiest way for him to do this? Take a photo with super high resolution • Bring it into photoshop for retouching? Crop and output.

There has to be a more professional way than using an iPhone, or? Can't he pay someone to do this for him in a professional manner?

    • Asking for a friendmonNom
    • Easiest and cheapest way would be iphone. Better would be good lighting & camera with a lens that doesn't distort (e.g like too wide an angle).microkorg
    • There are places that will scan huge paintings for you but I imagine they are not cheap and would likely cost more than you'd ever make selling tshirts.microkorg
    • When it comes to tshirts, print on demand places like Threadless are the thing to use to start off with. Just upload your designs.microkorg
    • You don't need to invest $ in inventory.microkorg
    • Take multiple shots, bring into PS and use Photomergei_monk
    • +1 photomerge for best possible resolution. But really, for a T-shirt you aren’t going to be constrained by resolution. iPhone will be fine.monNom
    • I think the photo merge is the best option because I can't imagine a full frame will not distort. I remember people would scan their work in segments back when.canoe

This was also one of my decisions to move to Hawaii,
to be away from the information world.

I just learned about Assad from my 80yo mother on the phone. Also this Luigi guy, here.
I'm really not following anything deliberately except occasional Gaza news from my instagram feed.

I used to trade stocks and that required me to follow news like "Iranian drone bombed an oil tanker in Hurmuz" so that I'd hold on to an energy stock. Not doing that anymore either.

My life is more focused. On myself, on my life here and what I'm after. I'm also less opinionated, still posting about Gaza every now and then because that is a more direct threat to our shared human body, but I want to observe and really want to find new ways to express my reactions.
Like with art or doing more regenerative things to slightly compensate the harm we're doing.
But mostly I want to fill my own cup first, I have a lot of baggage to shed.
With that weight, I don't think I'm good enough to say much.

I'm questioning all my motivations and trying to find the most real and useful way to exist.

    • Well done ;)OBBTKN
    • It’s great you decided to stop watching tv news, seriously. I did the same 7 years ago. Nothing about Hawaii is removed from it though.monospaced

I just asked this question to chatGPT and it crashed:

    K. Let's say you're on vacation. In another country. You burned your Face off. Then you're bandaged. Bandaged up face. How do you get back to your country with a passport How would they identify you?

Then I asked Claude 3 Opus and it said it doesn't feel comfortable providing that advice.
