High grade supermarket coffee (Lavazza, Segafredo, Illy etc.) = 160 DKK (22 USD) per kilo.
Verdict: Tasty!
Local roasters' nerd grade coffee sold by guy with waxed mustache and 1800's style blacksmith leather apron = 680 DKK (96 USD) per kilo.
Verdict: 30% more tasty. The biggest pleasure is the smell from grinding it.
Do you happily pay the 325% increase?
- the 1kg Tesco 'italian inspired' espresso beans (half the price of Lavazza) I prefer to most of the artisan stuff we buy and Lavazza. the Tesco beans are vkingsteven
- similar (suspiciously so) to the Matthew Algie beans (big commercial roasters a lot of cafes use in the UK and Ireland)kingsteven

- I roast my own, ~16/kg USD.
It's 20% more tasty. You could say i have an unwaxed mustache and a cloth apronrobotinc - ^ Chequered red and white, with the words 'Kiss the cook' embroidered on it, I hope?Continuity

- Monmouth, or Union roaster. Whichever is cheaper per kilo. And whatever single origin I receive as gifts. Last was Kenyan.maikel

I've looked at a list of the most common New Year's resolutions... I only have the one to exercise (or more) pending.
This year, it's going to be easy ;)

I’ve decided to vent here instead of keeping everything to myself. This feels like a good place to do it - a semi-anonymous forum.
This year has been rocky for me.
On the negatives:
This summer, I unexpectedly lost my brother, who was only 48. Around the same time, someone stole our kitten, who had been with us for just a few months. She came into our lives as a sort of replacement for two older cats we lost to age. On top of that, my father was diagnosed with cancer. On the positives:
I finished building a Temple in Mexico (not real, but still meaningful). I’ll write a separate post about that adventure one day. I also launched a new startup in the energy and compute sector. It’s been a tough journey, but I’m proud of what we’ve achieved so far—even managed to secure a couple of patents (not sure how useful they’ll be, but hey, it’s something). On a brighter note, my father underwent chemo and has recovered. My kids are growing up fast, and I love being part of their lives. I snowboard with them sometimes. My son is passionate about making music, and my 10-year-old daughter is into drawing. Recently, she decided to learn electric guitar.
Life goes on.So for the next year, I wish you all to stay positive and, most importantly, look after your health. We’re not getting any younger, no matter what they say about life expectancy improvements. Take care of your loved ones - they’re what matters. And don’t forget to check in with your folks.
Happy New Year!! you crazy ones!
- Condolences on your brother, man. And congrats on your dad recovering.jagara

- This is all that matter, try to stay as healthy as you can and enjoy this brief journey we’re gifted._niko

My wife and I stayed up until 4:30 laughing, watching music videos and drinking champagne...
Not a bad way to start the year.
Now; New Year's concert in Vienna, ski jumping and finishing off the leftovers.
Hello 2025, I hope you are better than the year we left.
- Sounds awesome. HNY!jagara
- All in all, that sounds like a fine start to things.

Watched "Contagion". Wow. They pretty much foretold the events of Covid 8 years before. The panic, the social media misinformation, the rigidity of politicians, the uncooperativeness of a very loud minority. We're not a hive mind, we never have been.
Scary. Not a feel-good watch. 2011: Drama/thriller. 2020: Documentary.
- Except, of course, that Covid was a lot milder than the movie virus.jagara
- I stumbled upon it, but TBH, I don't recommend watching it. No one needs more anxiety right now :)jagara
- Next pandemic we should just leave the antivax fuckers to antivax themselves into oblivion.BusterBoy
- I also just rewatched. Uncanny really. I also watched the first week of lockdown and it was even more frightening.shellie
- lol these parallelssted
- Funny how you watched it first week of lockdown. Why do we do this to ourselves? I'm asking myself too >﹏<jagara
- Haha, I also watched this while bed-bound as the first lockdown kicked in. It was wholly unnecessary as I fucking shat myself thinking... "this is it Ian"Ianbolton
- I think at that point, nobody knew how viral it was, how easily it'd spread or how quickly it would mutate into something much worse. It was scary shitIanbolton
- Yeah jagara but 3 million Americans still lost their lives, that’s one September 11 every single day and nobody thought 9-11 was a hoax...oh wait :)_niko
- @_niko What do you mean? Am I arguing against loss of American lives? I hope I'm not. Covid was/is not a hoax.jagara
- With the hive mind comment just meant that humanity at large isn't good at cooperating.jagara

After a lifetime of unmanaged ADHD, I finally tried medication last month. The difference in overall performance and focus is night and day. I’m seriously unsure how I coped before. Anyone else experience this?
- My son was diagnosed late at 14. Meds completely turned his school performance around. He’s now 18 and thriving.mort_
- I imagine it’s a bit like wading through mud, not having the support of meds. Well done you on getting this far!mort_
- I wonder if I suffer from it often. What is the first step?monospaced
- Lately, I rather enjoy being unfocused and a messnb
- The focus is great but careful you’ll lose your soul :) what are you on? I find adderall is great for getting work done but after a while you become zombie like_niko
- ...you lose your wit and charm in social situations as thoughts don’t come to you as quickly. You do feel hornier though so thats something lol._niko
- I was diagnosed when I was 12 or so. Be wary of treating it with just meds, because eventually you'll build a tolerance to them.garbage
- My sympathies for the curse, it's the worst shit ever.garbage
- @niko I was on Adderall for almost 20 years, and yes to all of that. I remember when "psychological discomfort" was listed in the SE profile.garbage
- @mono It's not really something you wonder about having, it's severely debilitating if unchecked. But step one would be to just go see a shrink.garbage
- My mate got some of the drugs to treat ADHD in his early 50's and he said it was the first time he felt normal in his entire life.PhanLo
- I know a couple of people around my age that got tested for ADHD and have it. I'm pretty sure I do. And as it makes me who/what I am, I'm afraid thatmicrokorg
- if I found out I had it and tried medication that yes it might feel good to feel 'normal' but I do think that how I feel currently is conducive to my creativitymicrokorg
- I haven't looked into diagnosis. I often wonder what it's like to be able to focus, but also keep trying to push through and get my shit done... slowly.cotton
- Couple of mates got and my ex got diagnosed later in life and most of them dexies and beta blockers have made such a positive impact.thumb_screws
- Same people reckon I’m undiagnosed so tried slow and quick release dexies and they did make a difference. Was so much easier to focus but I still needed to...thumb_screws
- ...plan and map out my day before hand. Otherswise I’d still drift off or focus on the wrongs stuff. Great to hear it’s working for you!thumb_screws
- It is night and day. Unfortunately, Ritalin gives me massive anxiety. ADHD made me give up my attempt at a graphic design career.jagara
- I’m on vyvsnse, 20 mg. Tbh i could probably go up, but I do like the quirkiness my intrusive thoughts give me. I typically sing a lot around the house.shellie
- My partner says i’m quieter. As a writer though, what’s going on in my head can be very distracting and keep me from hitting writing goals.shellie
- Ive been extremely productive, fewer obvious mistakes in my work leasing through. I can get things done with extreme deadlines and stress to motivate me.shellie
- I had a hunch, but completely lost my focus during a presentation and almost got fired in November, so i saw a shrink in December.shellie
- Long term, im looking for a new therapist that can help me cope better. And I have a work accommodation so i can wfh outside of group meetings.shellie
- I will need to be prepared to be unmedicated for pregnancy, which I plan to start trying in the fall. But i figure since i got by before, i can do it again.shellie
- Im also far less exhausted. Masking to appear normal can take up a ton of brain space.shellie
- It was never a problem before at Agencies or creative studios. But now i work for a huge corporation where typical creative quirks aren’t catered to as much.shellie
- So you had problems focusing?! Hmmm
Maybe it's ADD not ADHD
the H makes all the difference, with extreme focus for hours if you like the subject/projectgrafician - Yup. That's me. Almost insane amounts of hyper focus on things i like. For instance, I finished. a pilot script in a few weeks, and done several pg1 rewritesshellie
- But it's probably bc I'm winning awards and getting attention, and its about something i care about.shellie
- But Ive been comissioned for an hour drama pilot. I should be lasting out 10 pages a day. Cannot pick it up. But I also really don't care about the story.shellie
- *blasting out.shellie
- I've learned a ton of random skills. I can totally sew a wedding dress. I'm a decent archer. I'm good in the kitchen. but i tire of all of those things prettyshellie
- quickly and move on to novelty. Working in TV production is perfect for me. As a writer and producer I get a ton of new problems to solve which is probably theshellie
- only reason I have a decent job at all.shellie
- Yes, finding something interesting to focus on is key.
But for the rest...it takes insane amounts of mental energy to do admin, pay bills, be on time, etc.grafician - The problem w/hyper focus for me is i tune out absolutely everything & fall off the face of the Earth got friends, family, & just about everything for months.shellie
- Well if the meds help, that's that.
But I wouldn't want to be normal, life has been...interesting, so fargrafician
