Peanut butter's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the mice...

A peanut butter and mouse sandwich would go down quite nice right about now.

went to see the Brice Marden show at MoMa. For me the best things were some of the drawings on the 3rd floor: dense black rectangles of graphite and beeswax over silkscreen, with faint incised grids. Afterwards we ate at the Bar Room at the Modern: Charred Octopus with chickpea-radish salad, salsa verde and crispy capers;
Steak Tartare with quail egg; Tarte Flambee; Slow Poached Farm Egg “In a Jar” with lobster, roasted salsify, and sea urchin froth; Homemade Alsatian Country Sausage with turnip choucroute and whole grain mustard sauce; Roasted Garlic Gnocchi with wild mushroom, sage, and crispy sweetbreads; Poussin with braised hearts of romaine, parmesan and anchovy; Spice Crusted Colorado Lamb Loin with shank and manchego cheese gratin, pomegranate reduction; Bricco Manzoni, Rocche dei Manzoni, Langhe, Italy.

circulating through the galleries we kept seeing a familiar white haired man in a blazer with a bemused smile on his face. This morning I remembered who it was: my father's therapist.

i just snacked half a cucumber with mustard. and i have cold feet.
- causemo0
what does that taste like?
- Nairn0
why would having cold feet change how your food tastes? that makes no sense at all.
- ********0
no, but the habit of eating such a sober meal is related to the cold feet.
a healthy lifestyle of eating less fat and rubbish, quitting smoking and cycling more, the cold feet i got from cycling 10 miles just before that.

my dad flew over from aus this week to attend his best friend's funeral.
it's weird seeing your father upset. it has the effect of throwing you 30 years into the future.
i met his old football team. they were all there. bless them. one of them had his old tie on, the Southend Electricity Football Club, blue and yellow, a 70s cut. i hadn't realised my adoptive grandfather had managed the team, how could something so important have been missed? still, i never notice anything important. at least i'm consistent in that respect.
Pat's kids are 25 and 21 and displayed more maturity than i'd previously thought anyone capable of.
my dad read a poem at the funeral. pat's wife had asked him to so he'd written it on the flight over from aus and read it to me at the pub the night before to test his nerves. pat was a respected man and it was so packed at the funeral that i couldn't get in but a load of us stood under the speakers outside and i heard everything he said. he lost it at the 2nd line but i was very proud of him. sometimes people need someone to lose it publicly so that they can too.
