personally - I would take the tucker carlson website. why the fuck would you want to work on a website for bush?
- tara|gee0
hehehe bush website hehehehe

they said it was not dependent on who is in office....

If you do take the government job, just keep in mind you will probably have to go through a 20 minute security search every morning if you drive to work. They check everyone's trunks and look under the car with mirrors for explosives. May not seem like much, but i know a girl who works on the hill and she hates it.

just for teh record slinky..
don't believe that one for a second....
when one party ousts another, some staff does indeed stay the same, and some don't..nothing is for sure...
also, it's hard to say which will look better on a resume...and what you want your resume to say about you....
the tucker site will give you more creative control you say?....
as an AD, that's something i'm interested in..big time...
if i had two designers approach me...
one having worked on a creative site that he had a major role in directing, and another that worked for out prime minister and dealt with miles of red tape for 6 months and ended up knowing more about standards than about creativity....i gotta say, i'd go with the first dude....sure..i the white house is a big deal...but we're designers...first and foremost.....
will the white house improve your resume/portfolio as far as your work goes?...or is it just cool to say you worked for the white house?....i guess it's hard for me to understand, being a canadian...
i mean...sure...we care about that sort of thing to, i suppose...hell...i've worked on government sites as well...i just don't think i'd give up a higher paying creative gig to go work for less money on what is bound to be a massive 6 month headache of red tape and such....
you're call slinky....
cheers dude

So what do you do once you finish the WETA site? They want you for just one project then going to kick you on ya feet? ;)
They're very different jobs - it depends on what you want.
If you're after stability - go the govt. job - even though it's only 6 months... it will be more stable if you pass that 6 month point - but be prepared for politics, corporate life, govt. standard compliance for HTML, etc. and less creative freedom.
WETA - TV companies can be fickle - the TV industry moves and changes at the blink of an eye. However it will be fun, but very high pressure - short deadlines and people changing their minds every day. Don't expect that there are too many others that will understand what's involved in designing websites (unless you know there is a good web team).
Go for the WETA interview and you'll know.

Nah only the Design director gets to work on whitehouse.gov - all other designers are busy working on Bush's neice's geocities personal homepage - they've budgeted for that ya know.

You have too think about the long term aspect of you career. Having The White House on you CV is one opportunity not too miss.
And the money side of thing will change over time.

industry... .com would be a little more creative.
but watch the links here.. many people may not know what .com is still... believe it or not.
do not click at work people.

Well, the leaders of the free world do not use the parlance, "dude."
So ultimately, the person you are is the job you'll take without anyone else's input because you don't really need it, now do you?
Congratulations on your recent good fortune! You'll be great!

i wouldnt worry...each one is good, you need to start somewhere, and it's not forever...
ps: working for the govern it's not that exciting
- menia0
both sound booooring , so..go for the money

What a conundrum.
I'd have to agree, above all else, with waynepixel's assertion that having the white house on your CV is a very rare & unique opportunity.
Even if the current administration is gone in 6 months, you'll still be all set for career advancement with that kind of gloss on your resume. By then, the economy will likely be even better than it's become as of late...which is not too shabby. I'd probably be bored with either job after 6 months anyway...and I don't much like bowties, either.

Wait...
Is your job security based on W getting re-elected??
That adds a twist to the equation.
