please give me advice on how to handle this situation.
- kezza_20
just send them the hmtl souce and all the files and just say "all yours"
- kezza_20
and if they come back for more ammends or somethinglike that say "I'm sorry but I may have to charge some sort of fee for further work"

they probably won't the Itellectual Property rights so that in the future, when they find someone who pays them to work for them, they can change the site without telling you. i mean your only doing it for free you cheap bastard!
- ribit0
what do YOU want?
You can give them certain non-exclusive rights, always keeping your rights, or give em exclusive rights, etc....
- MrDinky0
like any business non-profit doesnt mean that they are free and about.
they have their legal bounds of rights of ownership.
Since they non profit, they do at times require you to sign over ownership since there is no monetary exchange.
as you offered your service to them they own the rights to the design that you have produced.
they are just very anal many non-profit gets screwed over with so called volunteers after the work is done.
yes they are anal but you have offered your service to them
you should of contracted the scope limitation, warranty and intellectual property rights.
- scarabin0
what exactly are these rights?
just the right to change it?
why would they think i'd give a shit enough to try and stop them?
i just feel like they're trying to take something away from me and i don't even know what it is.

"they are just very anal many non-profit gets screwed over with so called volunteers after the work is done."
how?

donate a logo for free and charge them to use it, for example.
they want it in writing that its no charge basicly, so signing the rights to the work to them will allow them to use it and do anything with it without worrying that you're going to come back at them for money because you dont agree with what they're using it for
- airey0
in the past people have done this sort of work and then when it's needed to be changed have stung them for cash and basically blackmailed them into either paying or redoing the site.

I think they are being anal and because of that you are being paranoid.
with the bounds of intellectual property contractual agreement (look at your contract), you are giving the design to them. Its like you make a logo for them and you turning around later saying that you own that and you have only lend the rights to use to them for a period of time.
similar to that would be rights managed photograph. when you buy rights managed photo, you have limits and bounds of what, how and duration of you can use.
one more example would like, having that student who designed the nike logo suing nike for intellectual property rights after it becomes famous, and which you know didnt happen.
I think they are just paranoid of everything.

yeah, i've just been having a bad experience with these people lately and am expecting the worst now because of it.
this is the most annoying gaggle of ignorant bitches you can ever imagine working for.
so anyone know of a website ownership form or something i can give them?
- MrDinky0
just make sure that you do not include warranty to your work.
if they ask for warranty, just say thats not with in bounds of your services.
if you say yes, than they can come to you for any changes for a period time or how ever you set it.
just give it to them and stop the relation there. make sure you are very clear in severing the relationship without warranty

thanks for the advice, guys
- function820
a modification of this may be useful
- MrDinky0
