Been messing with me portfolio, nothing works on it yet, but the layout and navigation are done...
Any feedback would be helpful...

i like the basic concept.
imho:
- layout wise you have to have quite some text in the left box to balance out the artwork in the right box.
- i'm not sure about the alignment with for instance the thumbnails in emarketing with the menu and the placement of the text. there's also hardly any balance in the identity section. whereas the first thumbnails where positioned quite high, this is positioned quite low. again, the text and artwork doesn't work with eachother.
it also could be the seperations of those two boxes that causes this all.

I haven't actually started on the content layout etc...was more the design and navigation i wanted feedback on...
sorry should have made that clearer...
basically ignore the content....
cheers

ah ok. then you can skip all my remarks.

The most interesting thing about your site is how the favicon in the address bar matches the site menu and background color.
I would make your name a link back to the index.html page. The menu buttons don't quite align -- maybe putting a white border around them would help. I would also have a hover and on state for each button.
The Neutraface font isn't working with the rest of the site .

You should apply the links for the navigation to the DIV rather than just the text. I think the header works fine for the site. I'd try to mix things up a bit on the right hand side of the site... throw off the grid just a little by making that secton larger or something....

I don't think there is anything "STRIKING" about your website.
I think it suffers from the same sort of "simpleness" as mine. Where mine is saved however, I think is in the use of big visuals i.e. work, photography--I think this helps to make the site feel "whole".
If you look at Ivan's port:
http://www.ivancook.comEven though it has no visuals until they're triggered, the visual impact resides in the uniform use of elements i.e. type, line, weight.
I think that if you "Step-Up" the typography at the left, it will help loads.

I may have missed it; but where on the site can I link to contact info?

Pop-ups suck.
- kev_charlton0
Yeah i kinda didn't want to use pop-ups but hate iframes. Didn't really want the work to open in a new window either...
The simpleness of the site is really what i wanted to achieve, am not one for over complicating things when they dont need to be...
As for the contact stuff, that will be above the box on the right, just haven't got round to doing it yet...only started it yesterday so aint much done yet!
Cheers for the feedback!

You know Kev, I should not have made it sound like Simple is something to suffer from. Simple is okay, that's why I developed my site simple too.
I think that simple, however, needs details. I think that the details are missing from your site. I would credit the absence of detail, however, with the young state of the site. So I'll be interested in looking in on your progress.

Hi i am jenny and this is my feedback:
.the basic design concept is nice, reduced and easy to understand
. the pop ups disturb this EASY concept (you have these two white boxes, one for text one for picture, so use them!)
.cyan is your link-color, so i would reserve it for links (see websites "css" and "xhtml")
.be stringent with your navigation_ either - change the color of the third navigation point - so you can see the cyan field in between, otherwise you communicate IDENTITY has an outstanding position - or put the navi just in the colored boxes withput the cyan fields
. continious text maybe more line spacing, its pretty hard to read
.greetings jenny

Likes:
Simple layout
Easy to use
Quick to load.
Dont mind pop upsDilikes
Colours are a bit bland, maybe limit the pallet
Grid works but could be more interesting.
Your name could be a bit more visible.Overall good stuff.

Perhaps a greater contrast in the size of type used.
- kev_charlton0
Good feedback....i especially think you're right on the font sizes maybe differing slightly...
Also i agree with the links being a different color....
thanks a lot guys....really helpful!

Kevin you naughty swine, you've pinched my copy for the emails section ;)
Like it mate, you've got some good feedback already and I'd be inclined to agree with most of it, in particular about making your name stand out a little more. Not necessarily the bit that says portfolio but I reckon the Kevin Charlton bit might stand out a little more against the background.
With regard to the iframes/popups, check out this that John suggested at wow-factor, I've not implemented it yet but it could be a solution? http://www.wow-factor.com/forums…
James.

It's alright mate, I'm going to wait until you've come up with better copy and then pinch it ;)

Pop-ups suck because there tedious and intrusive. They sometimes get lost when the bigger window in the foreground gets clicked by accident.
Pop-ups suck for many reasons, one more might be because it distances the displayed material from the body of a site.
Kev's layout provides a great way to integrate the visuals strait into the body of the site too, which could make the notion of pop-ups even worse (if people visit and say to themselves, "...it would be nice if these visuals were displayed in that big square on the right").
