good point?
will i be able to stalk her there? I mean, is your police force spread pretty thin?
- dopepope0
you should both spend a weekend there if you can. It will give you an idea of what it would be like.

i'm sure we'll visit. she wouldn't start for a couple semesters. I'm just searching for things to get excited about. job market? bicycle commuting? lots of trash? art community?

Philly's art community is not that bad. Frist fridays is when the galleries open up and let u eat cheese and drink some wine.
Tons of good restaurants.
You can go walk everywhere.
Police is not that bad if you're white.
Specialty sneaker shops are around and some good local shops selling dope shirtsWhich school is she going to?

Do you feel guilty at all for booing Donovan when he got drafted? In hindsight do you think that was a tad premature?

i went to school right outside of philly and spent four years hanging around the city. i loved it. its overall a great place with lots of culture, a good art/design community, and a pretty decent job market to boot.

Philly's cool.
1. Don't live in the city. My old GF got mugged twice at night, you can't own a car without getting a million tickets, and you get to pay city taxes! sux. Instead, live just outside the city. Main Line is niice.2. There's a lot of stuff to do. (By no means am I comparing to NYC tho).
3. You can get a design job pretty easy around here if ur any good. There's only a select few that are any good around here, everyone else moves to NY.
4. Don't travel WEST or North of Center City, otherwise you'll get shot. Especially if you're white. lol. If you're white and you're in Center City, you have nothing to worry about during the day. The Police don't really give the white folks any hassle.
5. If you're not comfortable being around different races, ethnic groups, the gay folks, or the poor folk-- don't come here. There's definitely a good mix of people here.
6. You're close to a lot of shit. Da beach. NYC. The poconos. Atlantic City. Chinese massage parlors.
All in all, I like this city a lot. Better than fucking jersey at least. Jersey!
fuckers.

main line sucks--live in the city

good cheese steaks

main line sux? haha.
I live here and its definitely better than the city. The air actually doesn't smell like shit on rice. There isn't garbage everywhere. Freaking Supermarkets! Thats the big thing. If you live in the city, you'll end up grocery shopping at fucking FreshFields, buying fucking Soy Milk, tofu meatballs, and paying 8.99 a lb for fucking dry ass turkey lunchmeat. Or you have to travel to fucking ShopRite in South Philly and have some 'I-wanna-be-a greezy-italian' think he's a badass talk shit to you just because you aren't fuckin italian. "I just wanna get some lunch meat motherfucker!"
And there's ton's of college bitches in the main line. Bitches man! Bitches!Trust me. Living in the city is cool- for about a year, until u get sick of all the shit that you have to eat, drink, and smell.

the bike community is amazing... some friends of mine participated in a bike tour sponsored by PBR, nothing serious, around philly... the breaks would conist of drinking pabst... the times that i've gone to visit have always been good.

I lived in the suburbs and in the city and I MUCH prefer the city. If your afraid of "variety" and think things like "Don't go West you'll get shot by black people.." (I live in West Philly now and I am white and have never been shot by any race or creed) if you are not "city folk" then live in the burbs. The burbs are not that far by train or car and are quite nice but will cost you a bit more. What you save on city tax you spend on transportation and/or rent.
Philly is a great little city overall- its like a small town more than a city. You always run into people you know. It is not as busy as New York and not as slow as the country but a fine line in between.
When you vist- go to all the toursy spots, the good restruants, and the like but also remember that this IS a city and it does have it's scary spots. It can get dirty in places- thus the nick name "PHILTHADELPHIA" but it is home and I love it.

I love Philly. I've lived here for a few years and grew up just outside.
Great places to eat.
Lots of shitty neighborhoods, but the city itself is cleaning up.
Condos are popping up all over the place so it seems people with money are moving in.
SEPTA's regional rails are quite possibly the worst public transportation. Way overpriced.
Pretty nice art/design scene.
Bike everywhere! But lately there's been a lot of bike thefts. There's weekly bike rides around the city.
Lots of stencils on the street.
Very historic, I love all the old architecture.
