University of the Arts? I believe it's associated with Temple. She's going for museum studies, so we need to move to place with more than 3 museums.

I'm a senior at UArts now. It's not associated with Temple as far as I know. The graphic design program is great.

I dunno, my lady said something about temple. But if you attend UArts, i'll go ahead and take your word. She also said that the grad prog is very design oriented. it's sounds really cool. kind makes me wish i had not attended an 'art school'
and... nice work.

there was a cover story in the NYtimes a few weeks ago says Philly is the new Brooklyn. Cheaper than NYC so artsy fartsy people are movin in.

Got a link to that article? I found one on nytimes.com called The De Facto Capital, but I'm not paying $4 to read it.
Philly's definitely getting bigger. I think it would be growing faster if it wasn't so tightly surrouned by neighborhoods. For center city to expand you'd have to start bulldozing houses. And center city is tiny.

no link...We get the Sunday Times here in Oregon and when my GF opened the Living section to that article one of her friends from high school was on it. He's in a band called ENON and recently moved from Brooklyn to Philly.
...according to city figures, a significant number of youngish artists, musicians, restaurateurs and designers are leaving New York City and heading down the turnpike for the same reasons they once moved to Brooklyn from Manhattan.
“We got priced out of Manhattan, and we moved to Brooklyn,” said John Schmersal, 32, of the three-member band Enon; two of them migrated here in January. “Then we got priced out of Brooklyn. Now we’re in Philadelphia.”

I grew up in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Now I live in NY and CA. I don't really recommend Philly for anything except the food and to get away from NY once and a while. Hoever I must say the rock shows are great there. It is very blue collar for the most part and this does create a great music scene. Way better then any of the "scene" created by the clown bands in Willamsburgh. The best show I have ever been to was Tool in '94 at the Troc in Philly. It was an ultimate religous experience beyond belief. I just remeber thinking me and my friends were way cooler than anyone around us bc we saw somethign so amazing and everyone else outside the show did not. If I recall we were actually screaming at people we didnt know about how awesome the show was out our car windows. LOL Anywhoo, there are some great colleges too. So if you are going to Penn or Swarthmore I would say go do it, but for the most part that is all it has. Art school is mainly best in NY and CA. I have never met anyone from an art school in Philly who is happy with their career. Listen to Davi-t. He is right about everything. For the most part it is not a nice town.
