so your parents souls were absorbed by zealous zombie types. probably time to move on anyhow, eh?
i learned long ago .. your parents are your parents .. get out and make up your friends and family on your own.
esp. if they're kinda crazy.

I'm pretty into my faith. I think it gives my life a lot of meaning and direction and it has given me a lot of great relationships with people.
I'm a christian and the big idea for me and the group I'm with (a fairly generic bunch of christians) is telling people, if they are interested, about the great meaning we have found, about the Good News of it.
I have been a part of a few group studies with people who were new to the Bible and God, and after anywhere from a few months to a few years, those newbies will decide they want to be a part of the same thing. But even when people change things fast, it's really not that fast b/c a lot of the experience started months earlier just by other christians being cool to them and establishing relationships.
I think that kind of thing as it happens over time with growing relationships and logical studying can be a really healthy, meaningfull thing for the people who experience it. It's not crazyness and rolling around. It's just finding some pretty cool meaning and belonging and support.
But when people go into it over night and unilaterally, with no real time spent with other people like that, no build up, it can be scary. I hope your parents are finding meaning and faith and not getting swept up in something that will leave them empty in the end.

Why such intolerance towards people of faith, version3? Why not just continue to love them?
Maybe your parents have truly been found by Jesus. After all, everyone is seeking to satisfy their longing for him, the longing which he planted within each of us. Some people just choose to try to satisfy it with temporal and artificial things.
If they have Jesus, you will begin to see joy and contentment in their lives like you've never seen before. If, on the other hand, it is dead religion they have found... you'll know by the burden and frustration they will exhibit.
Maybe your idea of what Christianity is, is based on false assumptions and/or bad information. Maybe it's time for you to do an honest investigation for yourself.

I have figured out this much though with my adult life - adults really have no more perception into life than a 3 yr old child ... they just have longer attention spans and more money to spend ... socially they know they are leaders, but mentally they are as scattered as that kid in your 1st grade class who used to wet himself and have snot running out of his nose.

that sometimes still happens with my dad

hand out business cards to everyone you meet. Go to your local business associations and talk to them, you may have to humor them that you are actually going to join ;)

I wouldn't worry too, too much about that v3. Your parents might be going through some type of late-mid life crisis and feel like they need to be accepted by their piers on some sort of social level.
Although most religious types are a bit over the edge in terms of their common sense, they do more good than bad.
