The material things (rings, cake, honeymoon) don't make the marriage, the people involved do. The best thing about my wedding is that 90% of the people that I wanted there actually showed up; and they had a blast as did I.
Point5
(Jul 12 06, 10:53)The honeymoon is a slightly bigger deal when the wife is a virgin and the me hasn't seen a girl kick her knickers in almost 3 years.
It was a very conscious decision. i think it makes the marriage more meaningful than if we'd slept together. People ask how I know we're physically compatible, but I say that if you're in REALLY love then the physical compatibility creates itself IMO.
So the wedding ceremony is important for me, but not nearly as much as what comes after...

which means maybe 3 people. Her mom, your mom, any surviving grandma.
grunttt
(Jul 12 06, 11:02)ha....yup. Good times. Make that two people: her mom, and an old professor of mine who'll be at the wedding and is a design junkie like myself :)

cheers man, and thanks for the book again- even better in person.

(Jul 12 06, 11:01)Hey Matt! Glad you got/like the book. I was wondering if it came through :)

i'm pretty sure that 2nd envelope (the one with all the stuff in it, not the rsvp, not the mailing envelope) is so that people can save it as a keepsake... which means maybe 3 people. Her mom, your mom, any surviving grandma.

since when did weddings get so complicated? Whatever happened to simplicity??
I'm so ready to be done w/ all the planning and get on with married life. Without the design-by-committee.

In my opinion, when it comes to getting married, tradition is for the birds. I sent my invite out and basically told people to call or email with their RSVP. I even emailed the invite as a pdf to about 15 people. The last 4 weddings I attended, I never sent back the stupid RSVP slip in the cutesy envelope; I just emailed or called the groom or bride and told them I'd be there.
Seriously... hell, to me, marriage is pretty outdated. Yeah, I'm married, but I did that for my wife. I'd love her the same, ring or not. The material things (rings, cake, honeymoon) don't make the marriage, the people involved do. The best thing about my wedding is that 90% of the people that I wanted there actually showed up; and they had a blast as did I.

That is so flippin cool you and your brother are getting married on the same day!!!!
Because now, one of you should always remember the anniversary and will be able to clue the other one in!!
Though there are a lot more sweeter things to it I guess, haha.

I've heard "that's what we should have done" more times than I can count after telling people how my wife and I handled our wedding. We had our 2 best friends (a married couple) marry us on top of a mountain. He officiated and she was a witness plus photographer. We literally pulled a hiker off of the trail to be out 2nd witness. Than a month later we through a reception. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever done.
This photo was literally taken 5 minutes after we tied the knot.

Sit back and smile, after all ... you ARE getting married!

(Jul 12 06, 08:54)So true...thanks for that reminder :)
Did I mention this added complexity:
My younger brother is marrying her younger sister. On the same day. Back-to-back ceremonies. one invitation designed for four different personalities. The funny thing is, my brother loves whatever I do and doesn't give a damn about tradition (he's wearing a kilt, which is not done much stateside)...
I wouldn't want to share that day with anyone else though, my brother's the mang...
thanks fellas for the input
:)

so maybe you go with the traditional extra envelope, but have a bit of creative freedom on the rest of it?
picking your battles is what it's all about man, and watch out for those inlaws!

Funny how leading up to the marriage, it can seem like it has nothing to do with the two actual people involved, haha.
Keep your cool and try not to blow up and say things, "Jesus Fucking H. Christ it's not like you're getting married", and, "I've dropped clients for inane commentary on my work and you are head and shoulders above them in stupidity!"
Sit back and smile, after all ... you ARE getting married!

Sounds like the 'big day' has been hijacked into a status symbol fest by your inlaws.

(Jul 12 06, 08:44)True, unfortunately. Wonderful people, I'm super glad they care about their daughter...but true. Kinda makes me want to elope.

Oh dear, tread carefully then.
Sounds like the 'big day' has been hijacked into a status symbol fest by your inlaws.
Just enjoy the day, it goes quickly. (And it's ace fun btw).

kew. Thanks wreef. Guess in the grand scheme, these details shouldn't really matter...

There's a balance to be struck here, I wanna make my fiancee happy, and she's traditional southern style...ah, the joy of choosing battles

I am actually desiging invites as we speak and YES I plan to do the "2 pant"(2 envelope) thing.
I plan to use a high quality super white envelope for the invitation - envelope 1. And, a second cheaper one hold the first (with contents) - envelope 2.
The reason - to keep the super white envelop clean and free from damage during mailing and delivery.
Wreefer,
out.
