the first thing you should do is open terminal and type:
defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean YES

the best updates on an OS are the ones we hardly notice. subtle improvements. something i'm much more fond of than massive, unfinished overhaul with new aqua affects and a zillion alert windows and major bugs, making you wait for the first service pack so you can just hook up your printer without having to beat it to a pulp first. so there!

You know, it's not so much that there's nothing terribly new that bothers me. It's that "We're starting to hit the creative wall, and our operating system releases are so good that they're going to take more time" attitude that apple has. That's bullshit. They said something like that right? ...yeah, bullshit.
- hulja0
The reason for the delay wasn't a creative wall... Apple had to pull resources to get the iPhone out in time... they prioritized. I'm not a drop-dead fan of Apple and work on both OS's, I'm glad I got my iPhone before some not-so-necessary update on the OS.

Just installed it, it's faster, that's a fact. But I don't like the dropshadows and the dock style... But I'll get used to it. The fast preview of most of the files is great! Also Mail is way better.

Put it on there yesterday, was getting lots of Kernal panics because I had an older LittleSnitch program installed. Make sure you install version 2.0 or you'll not even get at your new Leopard system untill you do another install over it.
Once finally sorted out though its great!! Definately faster than Tiger on my G5 Dual 2ghz. Spaces is great, having Bridge in one workspace is really good to have, I ditched my dual monitor setup and now only use my 23" ACD.
No probs with software as yet or my epson printer and scanner either, or any other hardware I have connected up.
Go out and get it if you got a G5 up.

Alright, I have it now. Should I take the plunge? I am scared. Do I have to back up stuff just in case?
- mirrorball0
Jaline if you have the space, do a preserve old system backup. So you wont loose anything vital, then get it to transfer all your apps and docs into your new Leotard system.
Saves yah feckin' about with all your settings as it brings them all over too!

question: does the Leopard OS take up the same amount of space as Tiger did?
- madirish0
it probably takes up more.
- akoni0
about the same amount of space, at least thats what i've heard.
- rafalski0
But then default installation of Tiger was 16GB on a macbook.
When reinstalling, I shrunk it down to 2.5GB
