Pepe the Frog cartoonist forces withdrawal of 'alt-right' children's book

    https://www.theguardian.com/book…

WilmerHale, the law firm representing Furie, said the book “espoused racist, Islamophobic and hate-filled themes, included allusions to the alt-right movement and was deliberately targeted at children”. The firm said that when Hauser was threatened with litigation he admitted infringement, and agreed to stop distribution of the book in all forms. It is no longer for sale on Amazon.

“Under US copyright law, Furie is entitled to all of the profits that Hauser made by selling his infringing book. Instead, per the agreement – and at Furie’s insistence – Hauser will be required to give all of his profits to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization,” said WilmerHale.

Trump just got terrible news about the Mueller team’s investigation

Special counsel Robert Mueller, Politico’s Josh Dawsey reports, “is working with New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on its investigation into [former Trump campaign chairman] Paul Manafort and his financial transactions, according to several people familiar with the matter.” The partnership between Mueller and Schneiderman potentially shifts the balance of power between the president and investigators, who are charged with probing the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia, for three reasons. First, as Dawsey notes, Trump does not have the power to pardon state crimes. That means that Schneiderman could bring charges against Trump associates — or maybe even Trump himself — without the president

    • State charges against Manafort likely meaning Trump can't pardon him. Could well see him testify against Trump to cut a deal.BusterBoy
    • Interesting news...Schneiderman previously beat Trump in court on the Trump University case.yuekit
    • Sounds like Manafort is pretty much screwed. Remains to be seen if Trump can be directly implicated.yuekit

Does anyone in public America have a serious plan for dealing with North Korea? Because this bullshit of idle threats is ridiculous and will never solve anything. And "wiping out" the entire country is something so unbelievably brutal, I find it hard to believe some Americans suggest it.

    • There's an interesting take on NK in World War Z. The entire country goes dark, the populace just disappear. Suggested that they go underground to wait it out.face_melter
    • But if I remember correctly, they didn't reappear. The stories are told as flashbacks. No-one knows exactly what happened - if they stayed or are dead.face_melter

  • yuekit4

Half a year ago some people were claiming Trump's unpredictability could be used as an advantage against North Korea.

However I think the reality -- which NK and other countries must have figured out by now -- is that Trump's unreliable nature makes it less likely for the U.S. military to want to escalate the situation with him running things. The people in his own White House have made it pretty clear they have no faith in him at all.

Trump is also heading into the most challenging time of his presidency this coming week. After demonstrating his inability to pass any legislation, he's going to have to somehow figure out a way to raise the debt ceiling, pass a budget and get disaster funding...all while Congress is in session for only 12 days.

He'll need to do this while dealing with an escalating investigation over colluding with a foreign power, a record number of resignations and unfilled posts and parts of Texas underwater.

It's just such a clusterfuck...if you are North Korea you would look at this chaotic situation on the other side and conclude it's the perfect time to act.

    • Yeah, NIK is certainly not scared by our thug-child of a President. I do worry they'll just keep going knowing he can't do a damn thing.formed
