One thing that stands out in all this is the disconnect between America's self-appointed role in the world vs. the total lack of engagement/interest from actual Americans.
Watching the Taliban give a press conference the other day was like watching Skeletor or some comic book villain be interviewed. After 20 years of occupation I don't think most people have any conception of who they are beyond just these generic bad guys who had some association with 9-11.
Just like with Iraq, there is no explanation by the media that this is a state made up of warring tribal groups and that the Taliban actually represent the majority ethnicity, which might help explain their staying power. And how many were aware that Taliban had already taken over significant parts of the country years ago, and that the US-backed side was slowly losing the war?
When you read an article like this one from the Washington Post, which is based on secret government documents, the fact that the whole enterprise collapsed so quickly is less surprising. Apparently even back in 2002, Donald Rumsfeld was declaring it a failure.
But the rest of the media (since no one reads long newspaper articles), wasn't really explaining this to anyone.
- Taliban are Afghanistan, to win a war against them you have to partially kill them all, so this war is no sense.********

- nintendo switches?! they have real guns and can play Call of Duty IRLgrafician
- Yes Nintendos. Something to distract them.monospaced

- Nintendo is haramdorf

- Yes it would help. Nintendos would keep them busy, fighting would stop and they would start playing Mario kart together. Win win.monospaced
- Meanwhile evacuation would be eased on many levels, because any opposition would be bush trying to top Tetris scores. Simple. Done.monospaced

@mono haven't you left enough billions there? https://nypost.com/2…grafician - I’m talking about Nintendos not weapons. So they okay nintendo instead of shoot each other. It’s simple really and guaranteed to work.monospaced

All things considered, this week is a bad look for liberals in the USA.
First you have dipshit journalists who have wholeheartedly ignored the entire second half of the war in Afghanistan (while some were barely alive for the first), now suddenly acting like women and girls over there matter to them. Evidence of the concept of materializing feminism brought into infotainment industry language.
Then you have so many people - a disturbing amount on this forum - praising the deaths of anti-vaxxers.
But the liberals claiming to care about Afghanistan now are weeping crocodile tears, and those who are mocking the Covid dead are abhorrent, for both of these massive crimes against humanity are consequences of the globalist neoliberal agenda.
Any and all who support freedom of speech, capitalism, or the free markets have absolutely no justification for mocking those who would be anti-vaxxers in the US. It's a consequence of capitalism and if you're a liberal you should probably question whether you care more about your economics or your social morality.
Liberals and conservatives each live by a certain line of propaganda. Fascism hasn't bounced back much since trump lost, but the pro-globalist / apathetic libealism couldn't appear more heartless.
- i feel it's all a reaction to still being stunned by 2016 / trying to vindicate 2020, and also educated / sheltered dems realizing they're actually center-rightcolin_s
- & if the majority of america is to feel ok with the forward trajectory it requires shutting out leftist reminders that liberalism is, very much, imperialist bscolin_s
- & part of the plight of the US now is there is no hope in leadership because liberals are empty shirt capitalists who have nothing to actually offercolin_s
- while conservatives have successfully dragged the country far enough to the right they can openly display nazi symbols without fearcolin_s
- but graphic designers make that ad money print print print so hey fuck it allcolin_s

- Turns out it’s hard to feel sympathy for people prolonging the pandemic and causing the death of thousands. Who knew?scarabin
- Anyone who dies of covid and isn’t vaccinated basically asked for it though. And that irresponsibility can’t be ignored.monospaced
- I also don’t remember Republicans being concerned about these in Afghani people on the regular, that isn’t just a dem thing.monospaced
- Free speech protects my right to talk shit to and about anti vax idiots. You’re flat out wrong on that in every conceivable way.monospaced
- I’m liberal and I care about economics and social morality. Liberals are so into social morality they are actually getting vaccinated and wearing masks.monospaced
- Anyone who refuses to mask or vaccinate can’t claim to care about social morality OR the economy. That defiance is morally corrupt and hurts the economy.monospaced
- All things considered, this is yet another bad week for republicans, but especially for anyone who thought Trump was a good president.monospaced
- You’re in bizarro world Colin.monospaced

in US politics the california gubernatorial recall is absolutely hilarious yet again and i am desperately hoping we get some random ass janitor to be in charge of the fifth largest world economy
for those that don't know / haven't seen, all it takes is 50%+1 of voters responding to the recall to oust the current governor, and then whoever has the most votes is automatically interim. doesn't matter who and there's something like 46 candidates. it rules.
- You wouldn't categorize yourself as a 'serious person,' would you?mathinc
- Pretty terrifying. A nut job can take over when most people aren't aware and are too busy to do yet another election just because some whiny bitches made it soformed
- go vote for Kevin.sted
