Another thing... the fact that this is a design forum... and said designers question the value of good design is beyond me.

The comparison of building your own PC verse the price of a Mac is ridiculous. Better would be against HP, Dell or something.
And even then, the day HP or Dell design and produce hardware that is more then pieces of plastic screwed together as well as develop their own OS and range of software that actually kicks ass... then we'll see if Mac's are "expensive".

Yeah, sure, you get what you pay for, but, in reality, Apple COULD lower their prices. They just don't want to. They know people would pay for it. But, even with their latest update, you can tell they don't give a shit about lowering prices, even though people have been requesting it for so long. Especially for students. I use both types of systems, and, while I prefer the Mac, I would never tell my siblings to buy it for school. I bought them PCs because it's just more stuff for the money, as long as you properly train them to use their system without ruining it. Sure, this will take more time, but sometimes it's worth it to not have to spend that extra money. And I am not cheap at all...I just know that you can have nearly the same result from both computers.

Good lord why on earth would you not buy a mac. Here's example #1 why you would if you are a designer...
3 year warranty that's real. If you pay for it.
The machine's made for adobe, and it's really work-easy. Work-easy as in it is really easier to do work tasks and design tasks at the same time.
Last reason: My last comp direct buy from Ibuypower it lasted... 1.8 years before exploding. smoke melted motherboard and chip.
- oh and that machine that old machine I bought the PC, that machine was off warranty because I only had the 1 year warranty.Iggyboo
- so u saying that with my 5 yo computer and the other one i had before (for 4 years) i simply got lucky?pr2
- bty, 3k extra is a lot of money to just pay for any brandpr2
- Everyone has a different story about which system lasts longer. I've had shitty PCs and amazing ones.Jaline

it's simple. your paying the name. the employees. the advertising and a little something, something on top.

because PC people are nerdy and Mac people are cool.
didn't you see the commercials?
You should even post that question here, just watch the commercials.
I don't want to pay a $100 extra to my brother to build the computer for me. I want to take it out of the box and surf the net or do whatever I need to do. I don't care if I could get a talking HAL 9000 for the same price.

I work as a freelancer, and I know that with a mac I can work everywhere without any configuration problem. I consider my laptop a media, I don't want to spend extra time in settin' it up, I just need to open it and make my work. Mac it's perferct because reduce lot of problems I experienced with a pc (Windows). I tried a mac and since then I never got back to pc.

I bought a copy of Mac Life. It went through 18 problems with macs. All 18 blamed the users. What a load of bullshit. Your computer starts acting buggy and it's always your fault.

judging platform's performance from your gf's PC...? Are you mad? My ex had 3 mac and they all worked like shit -- not because of the machine but because she managed to fuck up the computers in the process.

do you have to defrag macs?
- nope. but some do anyways: http://digg.com/appl…emmaopeel

I've been on macs my whole life. Couldn't figure out how to save an attachment on my parents pc the other day for the life of me. Conclusion: I'm sticking with the macs.

I've had 2 dell laptops, 1 I smashed, it was perfectly fine. the other the hd gave out so I replaced that. the killer was that one's videocard pretty much melted down and won't run 3d apps.

when you first open/start up your new pc, does it make you smile?
An apt metaphor for the appeal (and justified purchase of a mac) is in the wii — the incredibleness of shigeru miyamoto's "I think this will be a better experience because it is atmospheric and pleasant" or in the programming of the wii's update alert to be in the pattern of a bird call. Careful thought and ingenuity combined with technology. Plus new applications, interface elements, and smart behaviors that constantly bring a smile to my face.
Hence, why I will most probably plunk down the requisite 2K when I am prepared to buy a new laptop.

For me it boils down to lifestyle. I've used a Mac for about 16 years now (since my high school word processing class) and it's just been a standard in my life. I've use PCs on and off for about 8 years, and my personal preference has swayed Mac. I don't really feel that they're that expensive, considering that the G3 (the thing had a 4GHard drive) and monitor I bought when I first got out of college cost me $2500 total, just a few months ago I bought a refurb iMac for $1500. I'm more than happy.
