I posted this in work thread.
I have never got any posters printed before and I want to get it printed on A2 and I have a number of questions as I don't do print.
- What's a good stock?
- Best process to print?
- Minimum run etc?
- Its A4 vector at - I assume it will scale ok?
- Was thinking of using some special inks to replace the black? All a bit vague I appreciate. Thanks.

Isn't it a little ironic that you put all that print information as your text at the bottom?

very nice mate!
Your best bet would be to ask a printer, preferably the one you'll end up using...

I just didnt want to get fleeced when he suggests baby silk stock.
- just tell them your budget and let them prepare a few options..neue75_bold

– Stock is completely subjective it depends on what finish you want (glass/silk/matte) I would look at higher quality stocks though (no recycled stuff)
– I would print Litho for an equal coverage buit you could run into some issues with the thiness of those lines. Digi is optional but consistancy is harder to achieve. Screen print is another option if you want a raw finish. Finally this Giclee (sp?) print that everyone talks about but I have no idea what this is. All are pricey apart from Digi but normal digi printers only do upto A3
– I would do 50 and send me one :)
– Yes
– Like what?

Well - maybe print one off in a gold or silver?

fuck printing it, get a wooden board and some nails, then thread some silver thread around them. hang it on your grannies wall.

Like Neue said – Best off to speak to a (good) printer. They will give advice on stock and other stuff.
It will be a costly excercise though so be warned

If you do screen it will only be a one colour job. If you buy your own stock they won't charge a mark up. The main cost of a screenprinters is getting the screen made. Just call around and get quotes on a one colour A2 job...
- kalkal0
Getting the screen made is the highest cost? Apart from the UV light sensative paste, wheres the expence?
- mistermik0
so:
" silk screen white on 210gsm gf smith black matt paper, foil the spin line in glossy black film "
Sounds great. - will get a price on this - cheers typist.
Did you mean 1000 posters for £3 each - thats bit much :)- if you get foil, since the foil plate is done, you can use silver or gold or diff col film too, that give you lots of variety on diff poster, i always do thattypist

If you would like to print a small amount of business cards their a companies like www.moo.com. Are their that kind of companies for posters too?
So where you can just go to their website upload your image and you will get the order in the next week?
- kalkal0
If you want to see some examples of printers products, most of them will send you out a sample pack for free. Many of them have forms on their website to apply for one too

If those lines are in a tint of the black, then I'd suggest a two color job, print one colour a pms grey of your choice and then a solid black over the lot, that will help make the black....err, black!
With only one pass (depending on your printer) you run the risk of getting too much 'dot gain' resulting in thinner thin lines (or they will run the black lighter to reduce the problem) . Though this will only be minute, it will ruin the job.....am I making sense?

second thought, 210 gsm matt paper (white), pantone black 2x, glow in the dark ink

I've been wondering, what happens if you drop 3k on some prints and they don't come out the way you intended? Because printers tend to only do large batches, it doesn't give you the oppertunity to experiment, so how do you guys even learn this?
- useful.Ravdyk
- What? It's a genuine questionkalkal
- Yes and I find it useful to knowRavdyk
- I misinterpret everything as sarcasm on the net :)kalkal
- Yeah, some smaller 'boutique' printers will allow a 'press check' ...usually a premium priceBrainiac
- How premium? And I assume they wouldn't be happy that every print you did was a "press check"?kalkal
- hahahahha indeed!
And they probably want you to print it at a larger amount after that?Ravdyk - Yeah, the place I worked for were never happy to do it (printers are such grouches! lol) but, if it was a good or difficult job...it was part of the serviceBrainiac
- typist0
it's a very straight forward print, can't go wrong
- Ravdyk0
how much will an average print job of 50 a2 posters cost?
Full color no special inkts or anything
