from tomorrow on is a great title.
otherwise, terribly sorry for your troubles, janne. i have often wondered what the worst would be like if it came to that point. maybe you'll find that it's not as bad as you imagined and it can give you strength from falling toward it as the dramatic end that we're all inclined to embrace from time to time. you are incredibly talented and even more so resourced. You'll make something out of this – it's the end of the negative cycles. After this it's only up.

i see it as a new beginning. and for the while it would be ridiculous to move elswhere since renting illegaly is absurd. just never ever think of doing it, because the consequences ARE exactly what they say. swat team and shit.
i am tired of the fucking city and i will stay in the province and do mean fucking decent design work against a SET rate. No more compromises.
And, no, not all clients are the same. Not in any branche.
- janne760
look guys, i DON'T go where the work """IS""", because there is no geography in this era of where work is more or less. I WILL create it myself and you will see.
And yes, Amsterdam is over. I fucking hate the massively inconvenient place.

janne, if nothing else, you should be able to find work over the web.
I've never understood the emphasis some place on cold-calling and personal contact in this industry. When I was a freelancer, I found 90% of my work online. Most of my clients, I never met in real life.
You just need to learn how to market yourself effectively and be persistent about it. Not every job may be perfect, but if it's a matter of being homeless and putting food on the table, there's got to be a different level of consideration involved.

janne find some "other" job in the meanwhile. no matter what it is. as long as it brings food on the table. I now have some shitty administrative at UPC. but I feels less stessed now.

trite words, i know, but hang in here dude.

you talked about 'i don't care if i don't have a garbageman'
well, maybe you can work as one.
n/o but imo there is always need for those (atleast here) and the pay is not bad for that kind of job
10-12 Euro / hour.. (you know that's good)
and then you know what 'working' is imo.
I think we (you all) all can be lucky to have a job in design.. since it's pretty decent compared to other jobs.
anyway.. good luck with your tent and jobsearch

I'm sincerely sorry for you janne, I hope everything will get better.
Don't give up.
Last year has been completly awful for me : I quit my job without any saving and after some months without any contract nor job offer, I ended up eating bread as I could not afford anything else. I crashed my motorcycle on the way back from a job test period (I didn't get...), then my GF moved to Singapore for 6months.
The worst year I've ever lived. But finally, I found a job, my GF came back, and I got a new motorcycle.
Keep doing your best, and things will get better.-Financial side-
Maybe you should try to get an other job -no design related- until things get financialy better for you.

I know I'm in no place to say really because hell, I've only lived about half as long as most of you but maybe you should consider taking a month or two off completely. As in no freelancing– just hiking, camping, writing, volunteering, whatever you can do with limited dependence on modern society. It could put your situation in a much more positive light and bring your head into a much better place for a triumphant return. I'd make a pretty shitty hippie for the most part, but I've found life is a lot richer when you can experience and work through both ends of the spectrum...
Lastly, I'll say this from the days or weeks at a time I've spent living either in woods or on streets: saltines, canned soup, ramen, breakfast burritos, McD's dollar menu (euro menu?), etc are the cheapest and most filling ways to eat. Also I discovered that if you peruse some grocery stores with a cart of recently expired food items, you can haggle to get them for free.

it is true, my girl has been out of work for about 4 months now and nobody, I mean nobody is hiring, it is fucking bleak here at the moment and it's happened within the past 2 - 3 months..
We're getting the fuck out too, her in September and me in November...
Good luck in the tent janne, wish I could help, but I can't even help my girlfriend, well other than for paying for all of our living expenses...
- jesus, neue. that sucks. hope you manage to get out well, safe and sound.janne76

Good luck Janne. Pity you can't kip on a mates couch for while, can't believe it has come to sleeping in a tent, fuck me, I hate camping.
