it would be about 11 days including arrival/departure days.. i think i can figure a way to go north, south, then west

e.g. you can get a train from Berlin HBF to Vienna that leaves berlin at 19.00 and arrives Vienna at 06.30.
you could probably rock down to venice and then up to Paris.
god know what it will cost though because they are all quite posh routes.

if it was me and there was a little more time I would go south through slovenia and croatia (if you had time head into Bosnia or sialnd hop down the coats of croatia) get the ferry across from Dubrovnik in Croatia to Bari in Italy. Get the train up the coast of italy towards paris.

i might have the option to start at budapest so...
Budapest, vienna, prague, berlin, amsterdam, brussles, paris?- that's better, but probably a bit ambitious for 11 days...neue75_bold

neue, that's what i'm worried about the timing. i don't want to spend too many long stretches in transit but at the same time i want to hit as many places as i can.. so trying to find that sweet spot
- I hear ya, the first time I travelled around europe I had 35 days and we hit just a few more cities than you've listedneue75_bold
- and we were stuffed... It's too hard for me to say what to cut from your list, Brussels would be the obvious choiceneue75_bold
- i think i should max it at 5 and anything else is a bonusbrandelec

At a later date, ask for some Berlin tips - my parents lived there for 2 years.
F*cking amazing place.

also visit Hengelo. And possibly Venlo.
