- The end isn’t great, which is pretty common in M Night Shyamalan filmsnb
- Intro scenes in nyc are fantastic. Nobody really shooting movies at this quality with this much style anymorenb

Outstanding.
- worth watching but boy it's grim and downbeatGardener
- Sure is. Hard to find the words to recommend something so grim, but it's essential viewing I reckon.MrT
- Son of Saul is much better.********
- ^ great movie too, but quite a different take. I liked how this film didn’t tell you how to feel about the horror.MrT
- This is a great double feature with Son of Saul. Its the A side and B side, its almost a mirror image.DaveO
- ^ Yes, you have "inside" and "outside" of the horror.********
- YakuZoku-2
- It was ok .. it did have one of the best hug scenes in cinematic history.Ramanisky2

- "Son, you've got a panty on your head" Soooo good!elahon
- Lol, yes another classic. Also Nick Cage is running down a street with a panty on his head while cops shoot stolen Huggies out of his hand.garbage
- And there's yodeling. I love this movie because it's live action Looney Tunes.garbage
- “But the doctor explained that her insides were a rocky place where my seed could find no purchase.”Ramanisky2
- +1 garbage – that line!MrT
- I was once dating a girl, and when it came time to rubber up, I quoted that line. She had never seen the movie. Guess who didn't get laid that night.garbage
- ^ that’s too bad .. lolRamanisky2
- To be clear, the mood was killed because deadpanned asked "You've.. never seen Raising Arizona?"garbage
- I'm not a fan of this movie********
- And that's why I'd never fuck you.garbage
- "I was once dating a girl" sure, fag********
- Oh no, crazyprick called me a fag. My day is ruined by the laziest troll ever. I honestly hope you're a teenager, because otherwise you're just impotent.garbage
- I'm putting my dog down in the next couple days, be sure to call him a fag when I post about it. It would just amplify your insignificance.garbage
- What a faggy response********
- To bring a poor dog into discussion is beyond faggy cuntfuckery. You fucking loser.********
- Yawn. A child has mocked me, whatever will I do with the rest of my day? Toying with you is actually a good distraction from actual grief.garbage
- An emotion you so wish you were capable of inflicting, but are totally incapable of accomplishing. You've still never given your age, btw.garbage

Watched this last night. Based on the trailer I misjudged it entirely. It's very good. Incredibly thought provoking.
Those quiet moments since seeing it are filled with the possibilities, consequences and perspectives the film portrays. It's unspecific, distant, mundane and fucking terrifying all in one. Sam Esmail (Mr Robert) has tapped into something that's primal, in what it means to survive in this world. The final scene is devastating, heavy with truth and hopelessness.
- yes it's a great filmhans_glib
- Nicely stated Morning_starRamanisky2
- Interesting, I found the last scene full of hope and a fuck-it, let’s make the best of a shitty situation attitude_niko
- It felt to me like an overture to self-centred entitlement and consumption.Morning_star
- Ross & Rachel truly destroyed the world.Ramanisky2
- My wife said she was troubled that she doesn't know what happens after the end. I said I think they told us exactly what happens. Great film.monospaced
- In the minority here, clearly. I didn't much like it - daft exposition, unlikely character development - it just felt like a bunch of ideas, thrown at a wall.Nairn
- If you are woke, this movie is your wet dream.Hayoth
- Uh oh.
No, sorry - i fucking loved it.Nairn - felt it would have been better without the weird religious under tones.Nutter
- No doubt It has it's faults, the narrative is a bit clunky, the pacing is off, the characters are unlikely. Despite that it's one of the most thought...Morning_star

- I'm with Nairn, I felt the same about the book. Nothing wrong with open endings, but this felt like a lazy way to do that.MrT

- 1. This should go under "Suggest the Greatest Movie."garbage
- The remake is with Liam Neeson. Should be a blast!Akagiyama
- 2. @gnash I thought you were joking. Liam Neeson?! Miss me with that. That racist fuck's feet can't fill the legend's shoes.garbage
- I'm actually on board with Liam Neeson he's equally intense and low key hilariousprophetone
- One of them talked openly about walking around trying to kill a black man, and the other literally has a fart joke on his tombstone.garbage
- I mean nobody can top Leslie Nielsen but anywayprophetone
- Politics aside, the only things they have in common are initials, gray hair and gravel in the throat. No way Neeson pulls this off.garbage
- Man, imagine condemning someone's work after death bc of a fart joke on their tombstone.cotton
- It will be shit, as I expect the Gyllenhaal Roadhouse remake will also be. Leave the classics alone, put writing before CGI and fuck off while you're doing it.MrT
- @cotton If you think I was condemning Leslie Nielsen in any way, I suggest remedial reading classes.garbage
- He used to sneak a fart machine onto morning shows because he hated doing them, and had "Let 'er rip" on his gravestone. Legend.garbage

As a teen I was afraid to watch The Vanishing (original 1988 version).
Had been genuinely disturbed by other movies, and Kubrick considering it to be one the most terrifying films he had seen cemented that feeling and my reluctance to watch it.Gave it a go in my 30s and got a bad feeling right from the start, and quickly turned it off haha.
Finally watched it last night on Criterion and it turned out to not at all be the film I had pictured.
Can definitely recommend it if you like thrillers, just stay away from trailers and summaries, they totally spoil it.
- I've watched it as a kid, maybe it would not hit me this hard if I watched is as an adult. Truth is: I've watched it only once, and I still remember it, well...rzu-rzu
- ...the last scenerzu-rzu
- Absolute classic. If you want a weird case study on how directors dumb things down for American markets, watch both. The original goes in this thread.garbage
- The director's own 1993 remake goes in "Suggest a bad movie".garbage
- Totally is a powerful film, I was just surprised at how "welcoming" the form was, very engaging. Was expecting something very dry and hostile.spl33nidoru
- Thanks garbage, def curious about his remake, though it sounds like it could almost ruin the original!spl33nidoru
- Can't ruin the original, but you'll see what I mean.garbage
- I don't really enjoy horror films as much as I used to but from what I recall this was good. It can be interpreted more as a commentary on obsession thanyuekit
- just a standard horror.yuekit
- Agreed. I would say the genius of it is it's a reverse thriller. The villain is immediately exposed, and then watch a man become..garbage
- ..absolutely consumed by some mystery that the viewer has already solved, but somehow still kills you with the ending.garbage
