Smoke free for 11 days now, no longer using the patch, and exercising 3 days a week. I feel better than I ever have all last year...but I'm always aware that the craving is there, ready to kick my ass...

Coming up 2 years quit, after using Chantix (aka Champix in UK)..
I was totally a hardcore fully-addicted smoker, who would smoke cigarettes I found on the ground if I was really skint..
The Chantix really did stop me wanting another cigarette, and as I weaned off it I just learned to do something else when a smoking craving/situation came up. If you don't smoke, then the feeling of wanting to smoke goes away.
Sure I might get a couple of times a week when I could really do with that bump, but I'm so happy that I am able to not give into it.
All the cliches are true:
You really do have to want to give up ( more than you want a cigarette),
It DOES get easier the more times you don't give-in.
When you get a craving it will go away within 5-10 minutes *WHETHER YOU SMOKE A CIGARETTE OR NOT*
That last one is you ticket out of it - fully understand that and you're90% of the way there. The other 10% is just - not - putting - the - thing - in - your - mouth - and - lighting - it.

Thanks mydo! I bought that book - 'little book of quitting' and it rang true. I quit last week, 5 days in and feeling okay... I was a heavy smoker. Even went out at weekend and didn't cave in.
The book stated the obvious in interestign ways - hit home that there are actually NO benefits to being a smoker and lots of negatives of course. Pity smokers, don't envy them - just gotta keep in that mindset... Hopefully I have cracked it this time.

I took Chantix. Went from a pack a day to no smoking in 3 1/2 weeks. The meds also make you less irritated with the world when you're trying to quit. I've been off the meds now for a month. I feel good. Only the occasional urge to smoke. It's manageable though.

Remember that a craving is short lived thing .. last the three / four minutes it lasts - and you'll be fine.
Aim to not have a cigarette today - the thought of lasting a day seems more manageable psychologically. Keep the same aim each day.
Exercise - running is a great help.

quit cold turkey about a month and a half ago. i was a chain smoker. about pack/ pack and a half every day. I've only started going out to bars again and really thats i when i get them cravings.
i feel *a lot* better and i truly believe this time it will stick. Like i said, the cravings only happen when i drink and i have broken the habitual barrier. (which was a big crutch.)
yay..

Day 5 smokefree. Did the laser treatment and the Easy method book. I haven't gone this long without a smoke for like 8 years. Hope the weekend doesn't ruin me.
