Am I the only one not paying attention to this BP oil spill thing at all? I feel bad for the animals the ppl its effecting, but there isnt anything I can do about it, so I just ignore it.
- do you care about nothing unless it directly affects you?lowimpakt

I'm kinda with you Cygnus, in a way. The only real exposure I have to how this is "developing" is this thread. It's not that I don't care, but I know there's absolutely nothing I can do short of quitting my job and trying to help with the clean up work somehow (although from the sparse tidbits I've read, apparently BP is trying to stop outsiders from helping with that?).
I've mostly just avoided BP gas stations, which used to be the only stations I used as they are closest to where I live.
- Yeah Im not going to get all burned up over this thing. ITs a shitty situation that I cant change in any way.CygnusZero4

I think a decision to focus on better and cleaner energy methods is doing something. Plus looking at all the waste materials used in food and consumer packaging.

^ A discussion that has been on-going for two decades. It's just starting to really get weight behind it in the last few years, but I have my doubts that this is really going to be the catalyst.

- yup... he's gonna break.********

Has anyone gone solar at home? I am interested in looking into this soon. The price of the panels have come down dramatically in recent years.
- ukit0
haha...is this really true? I wouldn't rate Prison Planet very highly as a news source but maybe it's corroborated elsewhere.
"A crew member who rescued burning workers on the rig told Houston attorney Tony Buzbee of a conversation between Deepwater Horizon installation manager Jimmy Harrell and someone in Houston.
According to the witness, Harrell was screaming, “Are you fucking happy? Are you fucking happy? The rig’s on fire! I told you this was gonna happen.”

Fuckin LOL
Republican Congressman Joe Barton called BP's agreement to set up a $20 billion fund for spill victims "a shakedown" by the Obama administration, and apologized to BP.
The comment drew immediate criticism, with Rep. Edward Markey saying the fund is "the American government working at its best," and both the White House and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. issuing statements blasting Barton. There were reports some Republican lawmakers from Gulf states were asking him to resign as ranking member of the committee.
Barton later retracted his apology to BP, saying "BP is responsible for this accident, should be held responsible, and should in every way do everything possible to make good on the consequences.
"If anything I've said this morning has been misconstrued in an opposite effect, I want to apologize," he said.

cynical of the Republican blaming Obama since they are always lobbying for Big Oil. Who believes those people anymore...
- ukit0
This is Joe Barton BTW
Now think about the fact that he's not just some random legislator but was "Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee" the entire time the Republicans ran Congress. This guy was deciding U.S. energy policy.
- it's seriously disturbing that such morons git some power...lowimpakt
- Well his is a representative from Texas, understandable the guy is a total idiot.CygnusZero4

yesterday BP said "it cares"
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british…
Also yesterday they started drilling without consulting local residents. They don't give a fuck, and never will.
- CygnusZero40
Watching these suits drill this Heyward guy, Im starting to angry at our own government. When you're the CEO of a company like BP, you cannot possibly be involved in every action and decision taken.
These politicians, as usual, are just looking for someone to blame, so they're drilling this guy, trying to get him to admit he made a mistake somewhere along the line like a bunch of children, but he doesnt believe he did. Someone maybe made a mistake, or maybe it was an unfortunate accident.
I really dislike politicians. They are unwilling to understand that even if you take all the proper safety precautions, sometimes some shit just happens. MAYBE thats the case here, but they wont talk about that. They are certain someone made a mistake. Pricks.
- Clearly BP was somewhat negligent here, so I don't mind it. But ultimately it should be followed up by action.ukit
- Despite any safety precautions you take in any dangerous job, sometimes accidents happen anyway.CygnusZero4
- if you can't take responsibility don't lead a company.lowimpakt
- There's a reason CEO's make the money they do. And sometimes, they have to fall on the sword.ETM
- yup - CEO = responsibility... comes with the paymegE
