"While it won’t make up for my mistake at Flash Camp, I recorded a video so people could see an experience that will be much closer to the final experience with Flash Player on Android." - Ryan Stewart

Steve Jobs whole argument was going to live or die by the fact that Flash wasn't good for mobile devices and, as the first poster here said, that appears to be true.
Adobe apparently fucked up. They bought the company that made the leading multimedia web app in the world and forgot that the computer world ain't gonna wait for them.
But, as others have said, what's going to take its place? That is what I wonder. Everyone cannot be a developer....I'm sure not.

Very reminiscent of mobile Flash, new Volvo automatic braking system:

They whine and whine and yet they still haven't actually made anything ready for prime time. Why does anyone give them sympathy at all.
- < because Apple are behaving like tyrants. The underdog will always seem more appealing.lukus_W
- Underdog? The company that virtually has a monopoly and has been screwing us with CS prices?raf
- how are apple acting like tyrants toward a product that doesn't even properly exist?ephix
- They are keeping me from even considering an iPad, so bad biz on Apple's front (unless this changes, no point in having a device that can't view the web)formed
- having a device that can't view the web properly)formed
- how is apple keeping you?ephix

his website blows. he has a skinny pic of himself on the right, then you scroll down and see that was taken probably 10 years ago. i don't trust this guy at all. who let him speak?!

People are confusing the argument. There's Flash (the application) and then there's the .swf
I don't think anyone cares about the file type that you export to, whether it's .swf or HTML5.
The thing that makes Flash (the application) so great is the integrated creative workflow that allows designers, animators and coders to build quickly. At the moment there's no way a traditional animator or designer can quickly build something with rich interactivity. Without Flash there's no timeline and we're stuck with cheesy programatic animation.
When somebody builds an app like Flash that is useable, not made by programmers, and has a creative workflow that can be integrated into the web design process then the argument will be over.
I'm not sure why Adobe haven't done it already- It wasn't an issue until Jobs became a sack of shit. I'm guessing Dreamweaver will adapt a timeline for HTML5 eventually.CyBrain
- Not aware of an alternative player. Flash and the file format are synonymous.comicsans
- if the timeline matters why did they break it in CS4. All adobe cares about is RIA bullshitPIZZA
- I can't answer your question. I have no idea why Adobe are so shit.Ancillary

FWIW, Opera don't like Flash neither.
http://mashable.com/2010/05/06/o…
Opera Product Analyst Phillip Grønvold diplomatically conceded that “today’s Internet content is dependent on Flash” but then added, “but at Opera we say that the future of the web is open web standards and Flash is not an open web standards technology.”
Although Grønvold admits that Flash will have its uses for particular types of dynamic content, for video playback the technology “makes very little sense.” Battery life suffers, CPU usage is overwhelmed, and “you can cook an egg on [devices] once you start running Flash on them and there’s a reason for that.”

adobe do need to get their shit together. this is also coming from a flash developer. there's no better way for adobe to say "fuck you" to apple than to create a flash mobile plug-in that's fast, stable and less cpu intensive.
if adobe can convince otherwise that flash can run properly on mobile devices, there's no other reason for apple to block flash from their devices. well, except for the fact that flash apps may take a bite out of apps store's profits.
- the app store profits are 100% of the reason you'll never see Flash, even on an iPad unless there's an antitrust suit.CyBrain
- Hammerist? http://jeffcroft.com…comicsans
- why did apple reject it from the App store then you dense fucks.PIZZA
- cool but...read the whole story bro.....fyoucher1
- the app store is peanuts compared to the margins on hardware. apple doesn't care about app store revenuekpl

It's great when new technology makes life more convenient with app phones and tablets, but very frustrating that we have to dumb content down by a decade to make it work.
I'm still convinced Flash can run on today's best phones. And the iPad has NO excuse. My Power Computing Mac clone from 1995 ran Flash more than 10 years ago.

If you read that first story, it says eco zoo crashed in a beta version. Ecozoo is intense Papervision, probably the ultimate test. And it doesn't explain why hulu.com didn't work. I wouldn't have picked that as an example since it's just video. I really don't think we've learned much about how Flash on Android will work in a final version of the plugin ifrom these two examples.

Adobe really need to get their shit together, and that's coming from a Flash developer
- So, does this mean that Apple isn't so bad, or does it not make a difference?monospaced
- Adobe are lazy and it's catching up with them, Apple are innovative but pricksAncillary

Although the Eco Zoo has been demoed in Android here
I think it was overly ambitious to try to demo a full 3D site straight up. It's a shame because this will just fuel the debate that Adobe have been lazy. I feel sorry for the guy but I'm surprised he didn't make more of an effort to recover the demo and show something less intensive.

so if Flash is soon to be dead...
... should I just move on to developing mobile apps... or get back to basics with the web and move on w/the 'standards only' approach?
- I'd say it's less about the standards than it is a return to Wild West HTML4 days.detritus
- and Flash isn't dead. You might just need to rein in your comprehensively Flash outlook :)detritus
- I hope 'mobile apps' are a temporary dead end. Smarter mobile = full HTML / web rendering, whatever that may bedetritus
- be.detritus
- I was thinking given the popularity of the iPod alone... creating mobile apps isn't such a bad idea...PonyBoy
- ... now add in the iPad and iPhone... ...perhaps it's a safe place to be for a bit?PonyBoy
- That's what I'm doing, Kev. My first iPhone app is almost done.skelly_b
- ha! nice, shawn... share when it's ready for install!PonyBoy

The beta version is currently available for testing on Android.
If a beta version of an application crashes - how's that news? Sounds to me like the guy who gave the presentation was unlucky and under prepared.
