from wikipedia:
A recent Macworld poll listed Ive joining Apple in 1992 as the sixth most significant event in Apple Inc. history, while MacUser (a subsidiary of Macworld) writer Dan Moren suggested in March 2006 that, when the time comes for Steve Jobs to step down as CEO of Apple Inc., Ive would be an excellent candidate for the position, justifying the statement by saying that he "embodies what Apple is perhaps most famous for: design."
Although I don't think "embodying design" makes you a good CEO, Ive taking the lead together with Tim Cook in some form could work.

I don't think people realize that only Steve Jobs could give a finger to board of directors and not blink twice while continuing to do his own thing.. I don't see anyone else being in that position but him. And this was maybe one of the most crucial things for Apple.. Steve Jobs just didn't care about anyone else.. he did things the way he wanted.
abettertomorrow.. do you really believe it was for marketing purposes? Ask anyone who works/worked for Apple what Jobs is like.. there's no marketing there.. he is God to everyone there and his word is final.

His health is too much of a liability. He should just gradually leave gracefully. I don't want to worry about his health constantly.

Apple will most probably cease to be relevant as soon as he's gone.

I'm just saying, who actually comes up with their product ideas? That part was never too clear to me. Saying that it's Jobs alone might be buying into the mythology a little too much.
I'm sure he has a lot of input, but would the iPod/Phone/Pad have looked the same if it was him working with an entirely different team of product designers and creatives?
In fact, as VP, Ive probably gets a little too much credit too. There are probably others besides Jobs, Ive and Cook in fact whose names don't show up in the new, just like at any agency, it's not always the CD who has the actual ideas, they just take credit for them:)

Jonathan "Dieter Rams" Ive is profusely salivating from his mouth with the thought of becoming the next CEO of Apple.

If they were smart, they would make Ive the CEO and Cook remain the COO, but have Cook actually act as CEO.

sounds like you dated him boz.

i guess they'll be fine for a couple of years as the Jobs product line works it's way out. after that... who knows. I guess we'll find out if Jobs was the creative mastermind after all.

This explains why he wasn't present in that Verizon announcement last week.

no matter what you think of steve jobs, your heart has to go out when you see a fellow human wasting away

It'll be interesting to see how many companies fair once their founders are gone.
I think these guys are smart enough, though, to have respectable replacements chosen already.
Stocks will tumble, but recover once the new leader emerges as a new character.
I am more concerned with Berkshire and Buffet than Jobs.
I'll be buying if things plummet.
- heard of microsoft?jimbojones
- But MS doesn't support my theory ;-)formed

i didn't realise he had pancreatic cancer. He's almost certainly a goner, i'm afraid. A very good friend of mine fought that disease for all she was worth and it took her down. it has a kill rate of something like 97%. Poor bloke...
- Not quite correct. Some forms of pancreatic cancer are more than treatable.BusterBoy

He used to have pancreatic cancer, but got well from that. Apparently he had a very rare form of it with a much lower mortality rate.

It might just be that he is putting in very long hours every day, and that cant be good for any cancer survivor / transplant patient. Maybe his family or doctor gave him an ultimatum. Stop working so much or die....

This Mark Pilgrim is funny. And he's making a relevant point.
- autoflavour0
it is a weird thing, I wonder how influential he is over the actual products that they produce.. surely he just sits in his office and people bring all the new toys they work on..
and waves his hand over them and picks the nicest looking.

does steve have a son or something? maybe they can just pull a north korea and the dear leader will become the new dear leader
