One recent pain is that Apple has killed iMessage on hackintoshes. There are workarounds, but they're still early and not entirely successful.

i didn't watch the whole thing but this guy seems to have a solution

i just added this thing, which reads all major memory card types so i don't have to fuck with camera cables

you can use this thing to make it fit into a normal drive bay

use this thing to add more USB ports inside. put your wireless keyboard and mouse dongles in it so you're not using up external USB ports

does anyone use xcode with their hackintosh?

is it correct that the danger in hackintosh builds is that newer OS often conflicts with hardware components?
- not if you use parts verified by other buildersscarabin
- like these http://kakewalk.se/c…scarabin
- looks like kakewalk hasn't been updated for a whileerr
- well I am sure they do it on their spare time.akrok

Finally got mine working.
had trouble with trying to install 10.6 as it didn't like my somewhat unusual MSI GPU.But 10.8 had inbuilt support for it. Heres hoping it doesn't have any hiccups! :)
A somewhat conservative build but enough for video editing, light 3d and web development.
I could overclock the cpu to 3.6ghz but no need at the moment.
- good job,
I'll leave the CPU stock, just get more RAMGeorgesIV - yeah, some more RAM would looks good. like 16GB.akrok
- Hope that cost you less than $1000monospaced
- good job,

I built another hackintosh to replace my old one three weeks ago. It's easier than installing Windows at this point (if you buy the right parts). Motherboard and video card are the main components. I used the GIGABYTE GA-Z77-DS3H & ASUS GeForce GT 640 for those interested.
$700 for a computer that's faster than every Mac except for the Pro and the top of the line Macbook Pro. Throw in another $100 for an i7 instead of an i5, and it will smoke the top of the line mac pro too.
Everything works. All my software, my Focusrite Pro40 audio interface, everything. Mavericks updates without any problems. Hackintosh 4 life.
- I did buy this stuff during newegg's black friday thing, so it might be 750 or so not on salesection_014
- the video card itself is lower than any offered in the iMacs, so definitely won't smoke themmonospaced
- < $700 though mono - come on.fadein11

- Can you list exactly what you got and link to how to build one? I'm going to start one this week. Thanks!instrmntl

New barebone systems from Intel are giving you an i5, 16gb DDR3 Ram, SSD HD and USB 3.0 for stupid money AND its fucking tiny!
http://www.intel.com/content/www…Check out the Brix I & II though, if they can run OSX they will be the ones to get, i7 and the II is said to have a built in projector?!

I'm going to need a new machine soon, and I'm looking at options... Never built anything like this, what can someone expect? What are the disadvantages, most common problems and issues? Good / Best websites for resources and info. Anything else you might think is useful. Convince me!
- for me it's sleep mode, but I'm running snow leopard, they say it fixed in MLGeorgesIV

You'll have to be prepared to roll up your sleeves and do some work to get everything installed. Running a hackintosh is going to involve a lot more work than an iMac. It's not impossible, but you're going to have small problems now and again where shit just doesn't work, and it'll take some effort to sort it out.

seriously, no offense but it is really not difficult to put a computer together, you don't have to solder anything, you just have to read a manual and push things into slots, nothing really complicated,
for a hackintosh build as long as you buy the right hardware it should be a breeze (it's never that easy, but I consider messing around for hours getting everything to work a rite of passage)
once everything is setup right you shouldn't have any trouble, I didn't.. but I'm used to messing around with computers so I may not be the best person to judge the difficulty level
Good luck eskema
btw: an example of something that bugs sometime on mine is when I put it in sleepmode, how did I solve this problem???
>> I don't put it sleep mode

another thing that constantly blows my mind is when I run windows XP with virtualbox in my fake mac, always makes me smile :)
