- Hey, this is a new attempt to reveal Satoshi. It's also a good opportunity for me to share my attempt from 13 years ago.zaq

- Peter Todd denies beying Satoshi!
But that's what Satoshi would say anywaygrafician - @zaq Great story!
And after the Newsweek article, the guy probably was too scared to ever touch bitcoin againgrafician - or Len? https://evanhatch.me…grafician

“Bitcoin essentially tracks the market. It’s about the same as investing in SP500”.
I’ve heard this lately from a few people... even financial advisors on TikTok. It’s starting to catch on. Maybe because both are at all-time highs? But it’s not even close to true. Don’t listen to these fools.
Let’s compare:
Past 3 months —
S&P: +12%
BTC: +39%Past 6 months —
S&P: +15%
BTC: +35%Past year —
S&P: +38%
BTC: +121%Past 2 years —
S&P: +60%
BTC: +382%Past 5 years —
S&P: +94%
BTC: +857%I’m not telling you to buy bitcoin. Crypto is super high risk and has no underlying value. It’s pure speculation.
All I’m saying is: most people are parrots. They repeat what they heard or read because it feels true or because they assume the person who told them seemed knowledgeable.

- people parrot a lot of things when it comes to btc. this thread a prime exampleinteliboy
- "financial advisors on TikTok" lolskinny_puppy
- i rather invest in SP500milfhunter
- I'd rather invest in SPF50.
Health is wealth.palimpsest - In May I bought some of both. S&P winning.monospaced
- Certainly don't buy Bitcoin now. It's at an ATH!microkorg
- S&P also at all time high and I would recommend buying it. Therein lies the difference.monospaced
- Kewl Ponzi Schemeutopian
- sp companies has assets bound in btc?ArchitectofFate
- I used to love going to the racetrack with my grandfather when I was a kidGnash
- LOL tracking the moves, not the percentages
and both tracking monetary policy and other indicators of bull/bear marketsgrafician - and ofc with bitcoin being too risky for long term folios
Imagine Sp500 going to 6900 just because traders like the number 69 or 4200 whatevergrafician - These numbers are already off a bit. Depends on day and even time of day boughtnb
- But IN NO WAY does it “track” the broader marketnb
- what can I tell you...
https://www.coindesk…grafician - https://www.blockcha…grafician
- Grafician, ignoring opportunity cost is a dumb way to think about investing.nb
- “They both went up” lulznb
- < also offtopic but have you noticed even the percentages go up by 3-6-9 times :))grafician
- buying bitcoin is not investing, is gamblinggrafician
- but sure follow tik tokers for more "investing" tips and tricks :)))grafician
- I’m not taking advice from TikTok obviouslynb
- I said I heard this false statement on TikToknb
- Which is not false as I gave you more well known info. But sure, agree to disagree if you need, no problemagrafician
- Dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.nb
- K so you agree with the TikToks. Got it.nb
- No, I agree with common knowledge in the field. It's you who mentioned tiktoksgrafician
- also tracking means it tracks the moves, correlation, I gave you also charts while you gave percentages?!
It's fine I don't expect designers to know tradinggrafician - I’m a VTI and chill kinda guy.kaiyohtee
- Samenb
- graf, what’s your personal cost basis for your S&P index investment?monospaced
- And/or bitcoin?monospaced
- 1. You're a designer
2. You know trading
Pick one.palimpsest - lolmonospaced
- well, I've been trading casually for 25 years, and also been a designer the whole timemonospaced
- Look at you, bigshot.
;-)palimpsest - To be clear, Bitcoin, trading and horse betting are all speculation to me. To each their own. It doesn't mean you can't partake in design at the same time.palimpsest
- I understand how you see it that way, but there are low-risk trades that are proven (to an extent) which negates a bit of the speculation.monospaced
- That's basically how we define things, by setting limits. For you, the limit of speculation is your certain certainty.palimpsest
- Investment is about value creation, I can invest in cancer research.
Speculation is about value extraction.palimpsest - I'm just not going to write it all off as speculation and use that as a reason to not get involved at all :)monospaced
- Fair enough.palimpsest

I finally logged into my crypto account after a couple of years, it was down to pretty much zero during the crash but to my surprise I now have lambo money once again.
Ok Lego Lambo but at least it’s not zero! lol

I continually find the whole thing very confusing.
Until it has a mainstream practical use that's beneficial, it feels to me like a very strange pyramid scheme, casino, or dare i say religion?
Religion: a lot of investment and faith on something that has no proof or physical evidence, and yet continues to attract people to devote themselves to it.
- Long story short...it's all a Ponzi scheme.utopian
- Are paper notes with numbers printed on them any less confusing?colab
- @colab – no, but as a speculative asset, bitcoin's value is based on "because we all say so" – vs other stocks, commodities or companies that are realDaveO
- I assure you the value of most stocks is not because of the real value of the companynb
- However, you’re right in that companies have some real value, whereas bitcoin has no real valuenb
- Bitcoin is more like Ponzi. Except in a typical Ponzi scheme, only one person knows it’s a Ponzi scheme. Most of us know btc is a Ponzi scheme.nb
- is gold a ponzi?zaq
- No, but diamonds are.nb
- diamonds are a marketing scam, not a ponzi lolgrafician
- If anyone can give me five practical, real-world uses as a currency i'd love to see themDaveO
- great for the black market and doing illegal shit. Also it's like gypsy street hustlers but in digital form._niko
- Five reasons:
1: It’s not
2: other peoplescolab - 3: responsibility
4: to docolab - 5: your research for youcolab
- @colab so very smart, tells me all i need to knowDaveO
- There are plenty of books on the topic. This is a part time design forum/ full time politics opinion dumpster. Does it have to be a finance website too?colab
- the entire stock market is a Ponzi, likewise fiat moneyinteliboy
- my advice, dont take btc advice from this website. note how this thread is dead when its time to buy, gloats when it crashes, and calls it a ponzi wen it pumpsinteliboy
- First thing to discard is that it’s like religion or is based on faith. It’s nothing like that. It’s a traded “commodity” and moves accordingly. Not mysteriousmonospaced
- Like any traded equity (stock, etc), the market dictates the price. Demand increases price, and vice versa.monospaced
- Practical use is not relevant. You can invest in bitcoin, and sell whenever you want for a profit or loss. There is no scam that you can’t predict.monospaced
- As pointed out, if a massive sell off or buy happens (see, whale), the market can shift dramatically and quickly, triggering a buying spree or a sell offmonospaced
- When and if bitcoin prices change, there’s evidence of why. Religion is just believing in supernatural shit, so totally not related.monospaced
- ^ this. keep emotion out of it, trade wisely, give af if it's got utility or not - leave those debates to crypto bro'sinteliboy
- Anyone calling it a scam just has fomo or is too emotional to understand the basics.monospaced

BTC jumps, everybody "why how" meanwhile
"MicroStrategy Buys Another 27,200 BTC for $2B; Bitcoin Profits Sit at $11B'"

- I wonder what's the end game for MicroStrategyzaq
- win the money game. with those amounts of btc you can control the market (the big one, trading in coins)uan
- control the market so you can win more BTCs. Amazing dreamzaq
- They think it has value. They buy it.
To put $2B is insane, but hey nobody said markets are rationalgrafician - unrealized profits are not profits per sejonny_quest_lives

- Unlike some people I don’t go crying “ponzi scam” all day. I just profit and enjoy. You?monospaced
- Profit and enjoy a scam?
Good for yougrafician - It was a simple question. What did you buy it at? Or are you just posting because you have major fomo? It’s not a scam lolmonospaced
- The fact that I can buy and sell at will means it’s just like any other investment. I see now scam so far.monospaced

Bitcoin stocks are surging, fueled by the enthusiasm of figures like Trump and Elon Musk. Trump has suggested plans to disrupt the traditional Wall Street financial system by embracing Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
But what happens if Trump ultimately decides to abandon his crypto ambitions?
