Not sure if I've posted this before but one of my friends is constantly smashing tracks out, all of which sound quite experimental but fun.
- I was expecting something experimental but if anything it all sounds very poppy and traditional, not too bad, mindWeyland
- I did say 'quite' experimental, but cheers man. He's just very proactive, unlike me!Ianbolton
- Lol very cool.

So I went down last night to the Ableton User Group meeting in Berlin.. the presentation was pretty interesting, it was on using Operator for making a 909 Kick drum..
but yep, talk about a fucking sausage fest.. there was literally 1 women there, and she was the moderator..
of the 40 or so guys.. at least 10 were electrical engineers .. complete with geeky lisp.. Neil Goldman from Family Guy level..

he's worked on a ton of movie and game soundtracks like mad max and batman. check his channel out he has a bunch of making of /howtos etc,

- That logo is fantastic.mg33
- yeah i am fan of the look of this..autoflavour

- the name makes me think i'll be waiting some time for the kickstarter reward.kingsteven
- i wish overbridge was single screen like this, too many tabs. this kinda reminds me of the waldorf attack vst which is no bad thing.kingsteven

FWIW, finally dug into this book. Great inspiration and resource if you feel stuck making music, in a rut, or uninspired.
- It's not ableton-specific either. They just published it.sublocked
- Just downloaded. Picked up a Kindle this weekend actually, it's getting me to read more often with less distractions (ex iBooks)mg33
- And, I'm in this same jam, trying to get focused and actually get some songs fully finished.mg33
- i have it, never read it yetautoflavour
- mg33 & autoflavor...I just cracked it after having it for months. Wish I would have read it earlier. Very inspiring. Don't cheat yourself.sublocked
- nice, thanks for the link.ApeRobot
- Getting into it this evening for sure. My big problem right now other than time is trying to narrow down a focused sound for what I've been recording.mg33
- I veer into either a mostly instrumental guitar, limited synths sound, or a mostly synth sound, with textured guitars.mg33
- I like both, but I need to find that perfect blend of both and let that be my focus. The exploration is half the fun; just want to be productive.mg33
- Examples: Guitar focused: Rough recording - http://mg33.net/musi…mg33
- Example: Ambient / synth focused: http://mg33.net/musi…mg33
- i like the tone of the guitar...reminds me of red sparowes / jesu ...real dreamy / almost surf soundsublocked
- or another band i like "irepress". combining the synth with that is fresh.sublocked

Why is Logic Pro X still caught somewhere between that hideous Apple skeuomorphism and flat design ffs? How hard is it for them to reskin and/or overhaul the interface? Not exactly short of resources. The last update addressed some of it and it does look better but Christ on a bike - music software should be 100% function.
It's a great fucking app (and far superior to Ableton in many ways IMHO) but God it's fugly.
- you know things are fucked when ableton is setting DAW design standards.kingsteven
- i like skeumorphism in music software.inteliboy
- soon all our software will be flat and everyone will be nostalgic about the golden age of design in 2012.inteliboy
- just like how people reminisce here about flash websitesinteliboy
- ha yes I was prob a little harsh - I just would like a cleaner less fussy interface. but as I say I love Logic overall.fadein11

Speaking of Logic, anyone else feel a little underwhelmed with the new Alchemy synth they introduced in the most recent update? Maybe I've not downloaded enough of the sounds, but I just don't find very much at all in there that sounds good.
Maybe i need to mess around with it more. I like a lot of what's in the Retro Synth, which was already in there.
- it's okay - it's basically trying to be NI Massive. Not bad for a freebie with the app. Found some useful stuff. the fx seem to be the best so great on big warmfadein11
- cinematic pads... using it right now funnily enough.fadein11
- You've used logic for a long time right?mg33
- only 3 yearsfadein11
- put it this way - I got a new macbook and was moving my plugins from imac onto it - not going to bother putting Massive on as Alchemy seems to do all I wouldfadein11
- ever use in Massive.fadein11
- I just d/l'd the entire alchemy libarary expansions today, gonna check it out tonight maybe, some decent youtube vids out thereprophetone
- i've never messed with massive but alchemy seems pretty awesome and flexible so farprophetone
- Alchemy is fantastic, like all Logic you've got to get in deep to find the good stuff... anything that can resynthesise samples as additive osciallatorskingsteven
- is good by me. the preset/ easy/ morph section is for the plebs.kingsteven

Native Instruments is having a 50% off sale on Komplete 10/Ultimate, having a difficult time deciding on pulling the trigger on this or pick up a Moog Mother 32. Any experience with either or both?
please halp!
- i have the mother 32 & want to buy ultimate. i don't use the moog as much as i thought i would & i prefer the diverse selection of sounds offered by kompleteimbecile
- appreciated! I was wondering how you were getting along with that bit of gear.keewee
- it can be awesome, but it is an analog synth. it comes with a manual showing patches to make different sounds, but in the end, it makes analog synth soundsimbecile
- synth.. always.. in 10 years time, your software will be useless, synth will keep being a synthautoflavour
- but yep, moog have a very particular sound and unless that is a sound you think you will use, they can be a bit muchautoflavour
- I lust after a Moog Mother 32 too but you'll get much much more out of Komplete. The synths are amazing. New REAKTOR blocks!microkorg
- Along with pianos, strings etc. But yeah - REAKTOR blocks : your own virtual modular synth!microkorg
- A synth will hold value tho. Depends what your goals are. Prob get more finished articles from Komplete. But more doodling with the m32microkorg

On the topic of that book from Ableton, I bought this book a few years ago, I rarely read it but when I do, it always has an impact on my production.
http://www.amazon.com/Dance-Musi…there is an updated version as well (third edition)
