Slowly realizing Elektron have taken over my studio..
Rytm, Analogfour, analogkeys, Octatrack, monomachine and machinedrum..Such a change.. 15 years ago it was Roland pretty much wall to wall.. not apart from a few vintage drum machines and the TR8, Roland has basically no impact anyway

Need to do soma selling.. gotta balance the deficit of the new hardware intake..

- Pretty muchautoflavour
- got a mellotron mini? i'll take thatfuturefood
- prophetone0
- Does anyone think these 10 min jams are kinda cheating compared to artists who try to make more of a full song?ltjohnrambo
- I'd never expect a fleshed out, polished track... but yeah some get enough parts together enough to resemble an actual track, others not so muchprophetone
- def more about diff processes for me... with a sprinkle of gearspottingprophetone
- Great example, never really seen that Phenol synth in action before this - pretty cool piece of kitprophetone
- prophetone0
- probably will cop.. if only as the size is more practical.. the original was just so unwieldy ..autoflavour
- I see this and I am all want! but immediately remember oh yeah i have an oberheim dx and a quasimidi to fix and, you know, maybe finally use themprophetone

I know this is a #fwp .. but I was super amped to come back from holiday and spend the last week before I go back to work making music.. instead, I have had to do significant reorganisation and recabling to accomodate the new equipment..
its not fun. spent 3 days so far trying to make it all work.
hoping today I will knock it out and finally get to making some music.

use a patch bay they say, it will be easier they say.
sure, once its working its great, but accessing the back of 3 pretty much full patch bays to recabling things is a fucking nightmare.. especially as its not exactly easy to access and requires laying on the floor and bending around a corner to reach.
also, while its neat at the front, its like a bowl of spaghetti back there.. such a birds nest.
its taken me about 2 hours just to repatch 6 points.
squeezing my fat hands thru 1 RU height to then have enough dexterity and finger strength to pull out a plug and reconnect it else where.. not my idea of fun.
biggest whiner on the planet I know.. but laying on cold hard floors in very uncomfortable positions while squeezing my hand through a gap just big enough for it.. ugh.. lame
- Lame! But p.s. I also have giant fat hands that never fit and also get cut to shreds on my effects cases when I cable junkprophetone
- I recently bought a used skb 4u and popped in a sampler and power strip, i feel like it took over an hour of cursing and sweating hahaprophetone
- ... but think about how skilled you will be at imagining the back of the patchbay in your mind's eyekeewee
- Get some Trump hands and you're sorted!microkorg

Anyone with an Elektron Digitakt / Digitone should check out this guys template for TouchOSC for iPhone/iPad.
Just got the Digitakt one up and running last night and it's frigging awesome. You can control so much really quickly so its great for really creative and random sound design - doing things youd never normally do!
- microkorg0
Any QBNers grabbed a DIgitone.
Thinking of selling a few wee bits including a T-03 to get either a Digitone or Mk1 Analog 4. Used to have an A4 but didn't quite "get" the Elektron way but now with the Digitakt I do. (It's a good "intro" to the Elektron way).- I would say the A4 again.. if only as its a beast once you get into it.. but the digitone is also sexy. very different directions sound wise thoautoflavour
- The A4 can do some beastly sounds! Digi is definitely a different sound.microkorg

sold my OP-1 today.
Feeling conflicted.Wanted to love it.. tried so hard. its so damn sexy.
but in the end, the sounds were just a bit to meh and the whole 4 track recorder concept, while cute, was a total ball ache to actually use.it was like a trophy wife who had an awful personality.
- on the upside, don't feel so bad about all the new acquisitions now that the bank balance is slightly more restored.autoflavour
- I felt the same about mine but massively regret selling it. Just you wait.......microkorg
- I don't own one but already feeling the future regret on your behalfprophetone
- on the upside, I got it super cheap off amazon just before we left so even 18 months later, I still made $150 on it..autoflavour
- I'm sure one day I will regret it, but for now, I have so many other toys to explore which offset itautoflavour
- It's an amazing piece of kit, I wants, but the 4-track limitation would be an issueprophetone

random studio tip of the day.. wooden door stops with some little non slip sticker things on the bottom angle your synths at a very nice and ergonomically friendly angle.
especially for flat keyboards like the SH101 and the Elektron Analog keys.
also studio refit is pretty much finished. took 4 days of fuckery, but now I have it all back together, and I have to say, its way better than it was before. totally worth the scrapped hands and bruised knees.

Fascinating. The TR-808 was based on duff transistors...

So a few things are leaving me this week ...
TB-03 - Realised that although I like a bit of acid tweaking that I dont really want to be making that sort of music.
Roland Scooper - It's nigh on impossible to get a perfect loop with and a few other wee gripes. Great maybe for looping and tweaking random shit but not for when you need loops to be perfect.I think that I'll likely get a Digitone as it's good bang for buck and compliments the Digitakt nicely (sizewise too).
Ruled out a Mk1 A4. I used to own one and know that I'll regret getting it again. I just dont have the love for menu diving on a tiny screen to make sounds.
Daft voice in my head suggests getting something like an 0Coast or a Mother32 (to be controlled by the Digitakt) and a few effects modules like Clouds and put it into a Arturia Rackbrute to sit nicely behind the Digitakt. But then that's like standing at the edge of the eurorack rabbithole again lol.
Digitone seems the most sensible :)
- have only played with the digitone briefly, but the menu diving seems on par with the A4, if only reduced due to the lack of knobs.autoflavour
- but yep, if you sold the A4 before, then revisiting it this soon is probably unwise.autoflavour
- that said over bridge on the A4 completely changes the experience of all those devices.. so swings and roundabouts.. but yep, the Digitone/Digitakt combo winautoflavour
- that said, 12 years after selling my Monomachine I revisited and glad I did.. but yep, a lot has passed since thenautoflavour
- Friend has recommended I revisit the A4 too. Yes I had OB with the A4 before and it made it so much easier to manage and create new sounds.microkorg
- The Digitone has a large screen and similar workflow to the Digitakt which attracts me. Maybe I'll go play with the Digitone at a store.microkorg
- I was on the fence about the A4 for ages.. then I managed to find a good chunk of time and now I'm smitten..autoflavour
- very different machines tho.. hard to compareautoflavour
- sold my ak and very tempted by A4, seen a few go for <£500 recently... worth it even for synth drums imho.kingsteven
- wow really? I own both at the moment and the Keys is hands down my favourite of the 2..autoflavour
- heh, seemed daft to use keys for drums, never wanted to take it out live and i've been recording in a studio with a dream polysynth collection!kingsteven

GAH! finally plugged everything in and ready to go and my fucking mixer decides to start dying..
granted its like 18 years old but still, the last thing I need is to replace a 24 channel digital mixer at this point..
so far its just 1 channel, but then last night a second channel started to go out..
- whatever just go nab a neve 5088prophetone
- will just pop down the shop and pick on up.. and then build an extension on my house so I can fit it in my studio..autoflavour
- exactly, better get two hahaprophetone
- just incase I have a fader fail..autoflavour
- on the upside, found a place to service it.. $85 an hour and they estimate 2-3 hours.. only catch its 2-3 weeks on the benchautoflavour
- autoflavour0
people are dumb...
picked this up yesterday half the price of retail (and about $200 cheaper than second hand) because the guy thought it was not working properly as they output was only coming out of one channel..but its just a setting inside the box.
factory reset, issue (which is really just a feature) resolved.
will probably just flip it, but still, nice little box

Soma LYRA 8 has kinda caught my eye.
Especially this nice droning soundscape video ...- It’s bladerunner in a boxautoflavour
- is niceprophetone
- damn you microkorg.. now I am lusting after crazy Russian synths again..autoflavour
- Friend has suggested I could just get a digitone and use infinite reverbs to obtain the same and set up a TouchOSC template to control similar parameters...microkorg
- .. but this thing seems so nice! Esp the way you can feed incoming audio through the effects at the same time as droning. So it all has the same 'sound'.microkorg
- It could be argued that it's a bit of a one trick pony. But one that does an awesome single trick but can also morph through millions of brilliant colours! lolmicrokorg
- yeah its definitely one trick pony.. but what a trick..autoflavour

Some more LYRA love
- prophetone5
- analog 909 incomingprophetone
- my guess is both available in late Fall at $400 USD a popprophetone
- i am excited for these but maybe more excited about that SH-101 cloneprophetone
- the whole thing sags inwards when he presses a button. so I guess build quality is flimsyshapesalad
- this is the proto they were showing off a fews months ago, there's no way they's leave those buttons recessed like that in final version eitherprophetone
- can't wait for the sonic lab review of these boxes when they get prod versions readyprophetone
- love the additional features on these but i hope they sort that clap out: https://www.youtube.…kingsteven
- You can get cream for the clap, it's cool. Be sorted in no time.microkorg
