I've been working on a mixtape in Ableton... when I drag and drop tracks to the timeline sometimes they warp, sometimes they don't. It appears to be totally random and is frustrating... I remember several versions ago I never had to warp tracks, they always landed exactly on tempo. WTFisup with that?
- you have warp turned on
https://www.tcustomz…imbecile - Yes, warp is turned on... seriously, I will drop a track (after it's been loaded), it doesn't warp, I delete it, I try that 2x and then it warps. weirdcanoe

Supposed to be writing 3000 word article on why Damien Hirst is a hack, instead procrastinating and making random purchases off Facebook marketplace..
Yesterday picked up this cheap because the guy thought It was broken.. all it needed was a factory reset and a firmware update..
then picked this up today cheap also..
really should start writing this paper tho..
- I want nothing more than to play with these toys.. but I guess maybe that is the motivation, can't play until work is finished.autoflavour
- launchpad is hours of fun. vt-3 is sick.imbecile
- yeah I had a push 1 for ages, but sold it as I wasn't really using it .. but lately I keep finding myself mapping keys on other gear to launch stuff, so..autoflavour
- a really wonderful little controller i always find assorted uses for is the korg nanokontrolimbecile

Spendathon on eBay tonight after some beer and whisky. Oops. Stay tuned!
- *airhornprophetone
- Actually been joking about getting an airhorn. Got a meeting this week with a client who seemingly starts using phone to email during meetings...microkorg
- ... I've not met him yet and have joked that I'll take an airhorn to fire off if he gets distracted. It'll help him get back on track with the rest of us ;)microkorg
- Got a Roland Scooper, Rolant TB-03 and a Bastl Instruments MicroGranny. I used to have a MG and regret selling it a few years back. Cool random fun.microkorg
- Those are the best... a few days later..."I ordered the spoon rest?!" Also got one of those wifi outlets so I can turn lights on with my phone. Good stuffSquiddy
- Just checked. Definitely didn't order a spoon rest. Phew! ;)microkorg

- I keep getting teased by modular but then have to slap myself ;)microkorg
- I do really fancy a little effects skiff though to go with the digitaktmicrokorg
- ^that's what I'm building first, an fx/utility unit. Something to filter, sync, and control most of my other synths and drum machinesfuturefood
- Hope you're not following the same shit I'm following on eBay then :Pmicrokorg
- haha probably. im looking into diy kits for the modules since i already have some soldering tools. cheaper, but just going to take a lot longer to build.futurefood
- have the acidlab drumatix, really nicely put together... love it, i've never totally got the hang of the pattern chaining though.kingsteven

Was in local music store - have been needing an 4u SKB for two pieces of junk that have been homeless and what do I find? A great condition 4u SKB in the used dept for $40! A few wet wipes, several cuts on hands and some swear words later the junk tower all stacked up nicely! #itsthesmallthings

Does Aphex Twin make anyone else feel like you're going insane? No disrespect to Alex James - I love his music - but some of this stuff would have been perfect to use on the Taliban when they were trying to make them crack in interrogations.
- Hehe, Richard D James = Aphex Twin. Alex James is cheese mogul/ Blur bassist/ cunt. Aphex's sound these days is a deliberate Parody for the fucks...kingsteven
- doesn't at all have the same impact (via years of imitation) as it did in the 90's. you have to dig for the good ones... or Selected Ambient Works Volume IIkingsteven
- most of his tracks are probes of a certain sound/ device/ technique... but when he probes the heartstrings it turns dance floor nostalgists to goop.kingsteven
- I like a few of his tracks from over the years but really can take or leave his stuff.microkorg
- Yeah, the second half of his last EP is like that. Def. dig a lot of his music, but he's easily the most over-hyped IDM dude in history.section_014
- Does he still live up here in Scotland? Not his biggest fan but would love to go round, hang out and play with his music toys!microkorg
- i think he is aye, 5 studios in his place apparently.kingsteven
- does he still own his tank?autoflavour
- I think i read somewhere that he still does. Wonder if the yokels that live near him have any idea of his music. Lol @ the idea of Farmer IDMmicrokorg

i feel like my ability to make cool shit has gone up but is inversely proportional to my interest to do so.
I feel like ive lost the passion for making beats.... i miss having that drive of just wanting to work on shit all night.. now i gotta force myself to do it, or else i just end up watching shit on netflix and dying inside.
WHATS WITH THAT? HELP ME
- do you work with other musicians? my beats went up their own hole to the point of non existence... now sworn off one-man endeavours and loving it.kingsteven
- I havent really been working with other musicians. What sort of collaboration you been doing?mantrakid
- mixed some records for folks + my own bands over the last 3 years. working on a record now with a bunch of heads + players i've met over the years. still doingkingsteven
- most of the work alone but working toward a comp of remixes of existing groups, my self-assembled groups, with some solo stuff... few years ago, kingsteven
- my solo stuff was sounding tight but i'd totally lost direction. finishing tracks and immediately sweeping them under the carpet... started taking on stupidlykingsteven
- ambitious projects (eg. octophonic speakers, A/V sets, soundtracks) to give myself something to work to. but it just got too deliberately obscure...kingsteven
- so, sold some synths, bought some mics... recorded some stuff in rehearsal rooms and it came out alright. some folks heard it and got me to play on their stuff.kingsteven
- after a while doing that, i got to learn a bunch of tricks watching other producers, how they work with musicians etc. real busy and real skint but feels good.kingsteven
- Mantrakid, switch up what you are making music on. If laptop user, buy a wee toy like OP-1 or Digitakt. That'll keep things fun and fresh!microkorg
- I found myself doing exactly the same procrastinating watching netflix/youtube rather than "working". If thats how you feel ...microkorg
- ... then just run with it. Maybe you need a break. Or maybe just try pushing yourself.
I got a Digitakt and found its totally helped as its so much fun!microkorg - Sweet thanks man, yeah i ended up switchin it up a bit ago -- got maschine thinking it would revitalize me and it kinda did but then i just felt burnt outmantrakid
- Great advice and feedback, thanks guys. Maybe i just wont stress it haha :)mantrakid
- Will check out Digitakt!mantrakid
- Well worth just trying to get away from the computer to make making music fun again.microkorg
- short intense bursts of creativity followed by long periods of pause.. I always feel like I should be making more, but then I listen to what I have made and I'mautoflavour
- kind of surprised by what I'm making.. its way better than anything I have done before. My advice, don't schedule time. Procrastination production is the bestautoflavour
- have something else you are SUPPOSED to be doing, then you music will scream to be made.. I make the best music when I'm supposed to be writing papersautoflavour
- Actually honestly, i think thats the main problem since i totally agree - i was freelance for 10 years and could drop everything even super stressful projects..mantrakid
- Just to work on some beats every once in a while... wrote whole albums in amidst big projects while i let the phone calls go to voicemail...mantrakid
- These days with going in to work at the studio every day, there's never a chance to actually break away mid-day to jam on something..gonna have to figure it outmantrakid

Drunk Saturday Night eBay Purchase #2 Arrived
Got this to "scatter" beats from the Digitakt but was just thinking today whilst at work and checking it out that I can also hook it up to my pt-01Scratch, sample breaks live, loop them then scratch over them. then 'scatter' the breaks too to make breaks out of breaks on the fly!!!
The scooper is pretty rare these days. My big regret is not buying one (or all 4 of the range) when Roland discontinued them and shops were selling them for £125 each!
They do what they say on the tin but you can also do so much more with them when you use the app to wire up modules within this module.
- autoflavour4
So this is random happy accident. That broken Vermona retroverb I was sold by eBay scammer.. he of course flaked out and eBay eventually just refunded me the money.
so I got a free, albeit broken, retroverb
Already speaking with the manufacturer to see what they can help with.. cause at the moment, anything to make it work and I'm happy..

What’s the best beginner Midi Keyboard controller for Ableton?
- microkorg0
ok_not_ok
Thought I'd write this in a post rather than comments. If you are not a keyboard player but want to be able TO play then i'd recommend getting a Push2. When playing keys it will only display the keys in the key you are wanting to play. So everything is always in key and all you have to worry about it timing or getting notes that sound nice together in a melody.
Push2 will also give you so much control over everything in AbletonLive. If you are looking for a normal keyboard though then my question would be "what size?"
You can get little 25 key ones that'll fit into a laptop bag with your computer. SOmething tiny like the Keith McMillen QuNexus has a small footprint, really light but has aftertouch and can pitchbend etc with the pressure you have on the keys.Arturia Keystep is meant to be pretty good value.
Arturia MiniLab is good too and gives you some knobs to assign midi to. Then their Keylab larger keyboards have more keys and more knobs, buttons and sliders to assign which may save ou having to buy another controller in the future? So questions are
- what size you after?
and
- what you want it to do? Just be a keyboard?- Sweet! Thanks Microkorg!ok_not_ok
- a friend lent me his old Novation Launchkey Mini 25 to try out with the ableton. I know a bit of music theory and played the piano back in the day so i can playok_not_ok
- chords and play some melodies. The Push2 looks great but too pricey for a beginner like me. I'm more of a guitar player and have some songs ideas and melodiesok_not_ok
- that I want to record and add some blips, drips and drum tracks with ableton.
Again thanks a whole heap!ok_not_ok - No probs. Also check out the Keith McMillen KBoard, it's cheaper than QuNexus. THink the only difference is the no CV/Gate outs etc.microkorg
