MIT SCIENTISTS TURN AMINO ACIDS INTO MUSIC
Expanding upon previous projects that laid the foundation for making music from amino acid chains, MIT scientists can now use their process to create never-before-seen proteins—especially ones with beneficial properties. Using amino acids as notes, and artificial intelligence to turn them into chords, scientists can craft proteins based on frequencies and patterns that they can hear, and lean into rhythms or loops that lend proteins preferable traits. This would assist in making synthetic versions of naturally-available materials better and ultimately easier to invent. Spider silk, for instance, is a material that’s stronger than steel and kevlar, and could have antimicrobial properties. Read more about the project and its adjacent Android app, the Amino Acid Synthesizer, at Ars Technica.

Ordered my first pedal from Chase Bliss Audio yesterday, the new Mood pedal they released last week. A few of the user videos totally sold me and this looks like a far more creative tool than most pedals I've used.
I used to really want an Infinite Jets Hologram pedal; lots of people are saying the like this quite a bit more, and it's cheaper. I'm particularly interested to see how I can use this in conjunction with loops and arpeggiated parts I'm making on my iPad with Animoog and a step sequencer app.
- this sounds great, seems to have similar *magical* technology as the hologram.kingsteven
- OK I saw this on MoogAudio the other day and caught my attention, that demo at bottom is crazy good, it's definitely a "musical chemistry set"prophetone
- This video is fantastic.
https://www.youtube.…mg33 - I have the infinite jets.. its a strange one.. it works well with single long notes.. not so much with sequences.. still on fence about it.autoflavour

Just bit the bullet and ordered parts for a Hackintosh for Logic... Shitting myself reading horror stories on reddit here, anyone else using one?
Been mixing a record recently and my poor 4 y/o maxed out MBP is just not cutting it, I already gave up on using my 4k monitor a long time ago due to not being able to spare the shared video RAM and some of these sessions are 200 tracks deep it's becoming a total melt keeping on top of things.
£1600 for an intel i9 9900k based system with 64gb ram, 250GB M2 SSD, 500GB SSD, Radeon RX 580. Should beat any of Apple's current Xeon (and possibly the low end new MP) offerings for what I need it for (8 cores / higher single core frequency is what i'm after!).
Think I've got all the right bits but still slightly worried about the Firewire/ compatibility for my UAD stuff, haven't built a PC in 10 years, this is going to be fun!
- I use a hackintosh with Logic daily. I'm also using an old ass firewire card with a Pro 40. Not sure how that graphics card will work, you'll have to research.section_014
- Overall, it works great. I'm still on mac os 10.12.6, and will be until I'm forced to upgrade. Follow the TonyMacx86 guides.section_014
- Yeah, theres a huge build thread for all the hardware I've got, up and running with win 10 yesterday, attempting vanilla install today!kingsteven
- The AMD cards are supposedly working natively without iGPU since 10.4.5, and the thunderbolt on this board has been tested and works with UAD and Apogee stuff.kingsteven
- Got a firewire card too (right chipset so hopefully compatible) for fw UAD satellite. I cant se the ridiculous tb3->tb2->fw cables apple provides workin.kingsteven
- Heres the tonymac build thread, pretty fucking comprehensive! https://is.gd/eUCM8s… working from this and another on redditkingsteven

after years of trying to engage Felix with music, finally worked out an angle..
he gets 1 hour of time a day on the iMac on his account, super locked down..
but the music account has GarageBand and iTunes installed so he can add things to his playlist to listen with home pod.he was making music for about 2 hours today..
sure it was just dragging loop after loop onto the timeline..
but its the longest he has engaged with music ever..and besides, he is 8.. so.. anything is better than nothing
- legend. I grew up with my dad always deep in his home studio - loved just hanging out there, even if not making music, it clearly influenced me in a big way.inteliboy
- after all of 3 days playing with it, he INSISTED we upload this to youtube.. part of me thinks it was more an exercise in getting a youtube channel..autoflavour

- poor guy, that fucking iMac hard drive died and he lost all his sessions. he was almost crying.autoflavour

Hey people who make beats, I'm curious about making beats again, back in the day I used to mess with synths, had a couple of Moogs when I lived in Texas, people were throwing them away in the 80s. When I got to San Francisco in the late 90s, everyone was twisting knobs, Juno's, tb-303, custom boards, it was THE thing.
I got a couple of Korg Electribes, which I loved. Also a cool Groovebox MC 303, in the late 90s was great time for great live shows with a table full of boxes, I even saw Mike Paradinas live once, I was making tunes with an early software synth emulators until I crashed my eggshaped iMac when I maxed out it's hard drive, I couldn't afford shit then, so, completely frustrated I erased all my music and halted making beats—and focused on graphic design from then on, eventually I sold my equipment when I got to NY because there was no electronic scene here, blah, blah, blah..
Anyways, now, 18 years later, I'm really curious about making beats again (BTW I'm into minimal, tech, house, acid) So before I go off as I purchase a vintage synth(s), small mixer, etc., hook it to my computer and start, in terms to production and workflow, would any of you all good people have ANY advice you have on restarting to make beats again??... I would greatly appreciate!
Thanks.
- Given you're into minimal tech acid... if budget for some toys, get Ableton, MS-101 for og bass sounds + as midi controller, Roland TB-03, UMC204HD interfaceprophetone
- Thanks prophet! Those are ace reccos! Both the MS-101 and TB-03 hours of fun, checking out review vids now!robotron3k

- The MS 101 reminds me of my Korg EM-1 almost exactly. I have this wish it had just a few more keys, but the price is right!robotron3k
- Hold out for Black Friday if you can! ;)microkorg
- Ableton Live with Push2, Arturia V Collection (classic synths), Faderfox PC12 controller + map out all your favourite vts synths....microkorg
