Just have to wait for the dust to settle to know what really happened, but it does look like his mother was a teach there and he killed her and her students. I think that was confirmed by police.
He obviously was just all kinds of pissed off. Bottom line is the whole gun law thing isnt even worth talking about anymore. You think this guy would have been stopped by a law? Please. He was very angry and determined. If he couldnt get a gun he would have went on the internet and found out how to build a very powerful bomb with shit you can buy from Home Depot.

These kids are more likely to carry out their fucked-up fantasies if it's piss easy to do. Making guns less readily available would make these events less likely to happen. It wouldn't stop it, but it would help.

The quick and valid solution would be to take all the tools that help men to conceive his bad and ugly intentions, from rifles to the rockets. I think what people who are defending the right to have guns right now with the typical "criminals will find a way to get guns / kill" argument are missing the bigger point here. It's not about access to guns, it's about how pervasive gun culture has become in US society. And when it really comes down to it we're talking about an instrument that kills other people. It's no wonder that when people do snap in the US it ends up manifesting itself as a mass shooting. A gun ban would not only limit access... it would begin the lengthy process of taking the violence out of the american psyche.

a much as I don't think anyone needs to own a gun for protection, the banning of guns would in no way stop a crazy person from mass murder if they wanted to do it.

This might sound a little bit callous, but the high-school massacre shtick is getting a bit old-hat now. These kids have got no sense of style or theatre or of their own place in history. Certainly not like the mass / serial killers of the past - the meticulous planning, the years of research, the encyclopaedic knowledge of all the other famous nut-jobs that had gone before them.
These kids are lazy. They see another shooting on the TV, and the initial media frenzy over the perpetrator and think, yeah, I could do that next week if I wanted. I could ensure my infamy in an instant. So they do it. Because they can. Because it's easy. And it's so fucking easy because getting a gun is so fucking easy.
